In this retelling of a modern Greek folktale, three young swineherds - Milo, Jason and Alexander - living on a beautiful island in the Aegean Sea, manage to outwit a group of marauding pirates intent on stealing their pigs.

This engaging picture book is accompanied by Harold Berson's charming and colorful illustrations, which convey a lively sense of motion and fun. I only wish that Walker had included some indication of her sources in her explanatory note.

This book was okay. It didn't have as much excitement or as much of a story line as I would have liked, but it would still be entertaining for younger students. This book is about three boys who tend to a prince's pigs. One day, the pigs are captured by a group of pirates, but the boys get them back from habits they had practiced with the pigs throughout their lifetimes. This book would be good for entertaining younger students or for teaching a lesson on responsibility.
