Review - "Twilio Cookbook - Second Edition" by Roger Stringer from Packt

Twilio provides an API that lets you combine phone calls and SMS messages with your websites. All you need to get started is a Twilio account; a web host; and a simple text editor and some level of experience with PHP and MySQL. The book dives right in starting with two-factor authentication and click-to-call. We then move onto screening calls, buying a phone number, setting up voicemail and emergency calling system. Conducting surveys via SMS and building a conference calling system are covered in substantial detail. We can also combine Twilio with other apis like weather, stock market and news etc to build cool systems. Sending and receiving sms messages from websites, building a reminder system, building an Interactive Voice Response system are handled one by one with care. It also digs into OpenVBX, an open source VBX system built by Twilio that you can use to quickly set up your calls. Twilio also supports MMS and we learn how to send and receive picture messages. It also supports call queues. The book concludes by setting up a Twilio client app that sets up the client, cab receive incoming calls in the browser, makie outgoing calls from the browser, make browser-to-browser calls and display availability.
This book is for programmers who have already used PHP and MySQL in one way or another. It's for people who work with a lot of backend code and want to get up to speed with the world of Twilio. It's also for people who want to use the capabilities of Twilio to let their websites handle phone calls and SMS messages.

I'd been planning to take a look at Twilio for a while now but other projects kept getting in this way so I was looking forward to getting my hands on the Twilio cookbook.
I read the book cover to cover over a long weekend and was able to implement the recipes I needed as soon as I returned to the office.
I'd thoroughly recommend this book for anyone considering implementing Twilio into their own solutions.
