They say that after every storm, comes a rainbow. We’ve all witnessed what Rudy’s storm consisted of. Childhood trauma, verbal and physical abuse from her husband, along with family secrets that just emerged from the dark, after years of her life being one complete lie. Rudy has been in the eye of the storm from the moment she was brought into this world. She deserves to have her rainbow in the end.

With five children, and a marriage that she’s been in for the past 14 years of her life, can Rudy even survive without Zacardi? The best thing would be for Rudy to leave her marriage, but when your married to a monster like Zacardi, how do you plan your escape? Who will be her protection because we all know that her momma and Mimi will never be in support of her giving up on her marriage.

The finale of this book will take you through the last phases of the storm. Not every secret has been revealed. Not every tear has finished falling from Rudy’s beautiful face. In order for Rudy to get that beautiful rainbow that she deserves, she will need to stand up, break those chains that she’s so determined to break, and use the strength that God gave her to be the new woman that she’s set out to be.

I enjoyed part 2 of Southen Belle. It was a little repetitive at times but the conclusion was validating.

I think the author did a beautiful job showing how difficult it is to break a generational curse and the resilience a woman fleeing an abusive relationship can have

This was a 5 ⭐️ series. Deeply personal to me.

Book 1 ⛈️
How do you leave a man who beats you for sport? Where do you go when it seems like everyone is on his side?

Rudy, a mother of 5 is married to the mayor of ATL, Zacardi. He is the king of the city, who enjoys beating his wife, cheating and criminal activity on the side. The story gives light to the myth of couples goals and how things are not always what they appear to be.

The way this author took me through it and then took me OUT at the end! There was an influx of family secrets revealed that I was not ready for! I immediately had to start on Book 2 because Hell had to be paid and I needed to witness it!

I finished this book deeply disturbed. The book was so damn good, which means the domestic violence scenes were very realistic and graphic which means I was not ok. The author wasn’t afraid to go deep and dark.

Book 2 🌈

I started with tears in my eyes from just how Rudy had been brutally beat down and wanted to escape it all. But, with well meaning people in her life she is able to pick herself up and escape the chains of abuse. We also see karma flip on Zacardi and watch him face the consequences of his trifling actions.

From the two covers, you can see book 1 was focused on Rudy going through the storm, and book 2 was focused on the rainbow of hope to bring her out of it. I loved watching Rudy discover her inner strength, self worth and morph into an entirely stronger person. There was major growth and I couldn’t help but champion for her resilience and courage. This is a bold story that needed to be told and it offers hope that even though it may feel scary, you can get out of an abusive relationship.

I appreciated that the author didn’t make this a story about leaving for another man. A woman can find strength to move on just to have a better life. PeriodT.

My only complaint is these Lil Bo Peep covers! I initially thought it was hist fic!

Don’t just tell people to “leave him”, help them leave him!‼️

BRAVO!!! 👏🏾 When you get me to shed tears in a book! My goodness! Amazing! The pen game in this book was truly amazing. The redemption, the resilience in Rudy was heroic to witness!

When Rudy said her laugh was different. When another human being changes YOUR LAUGH. Something that comes natural to you. When I tell you that part broke me!! 😢 I had to stop the audio and breathe a bit. Shameful!!

To ALL the Iris’s that exist keep being the friends and sisters you are. When you feel something is wrong BELIEVE IT.

The narrators were amazing I was really hating Kevin Kenerly as Zacardi 🤣!

(To “My Goddie” Theresa P. Thank you.❤️)

What goes around...

Rudy came full circle in this wrap-up to a story that evoked so many emotions in me...chief among them anger, sadness and acceptance! In book two DDJ made me feel sympathetic towards a character that in book 1, I invited to GTH! And I absolutely loved that Rudy got all the happiness she deserved and possibly more to come on the horizon! If a followup story is in the cards some day, count me in! Bring on all the rainbows!

Magnifique 👏

Author Diamond put her fingers in this work of a book series. I took me a while to actually read the two part book series because I knew what it entailed with domestic violence and I didn’t feel like having that energy around, but knew I was gonna get around to it soon because I was really looking forward to reading this and I was not disappointed at all. Rudy Rae aka Minnie Baker knew that she as a girl didn’t want the life the women in her family have had for generations she wanted different her own independency and freedom to fly and live her life and further her love for education but unfortunately her wings were clipped by the same people supposed to love her from their own agenda and plans. My heart hurt for this women I was literally in tears she did not catch a break in book 1 at all she was the definition of what many women go through and have gone through for centuries in having no personality of independency in being trapped and made into something they had no plans of being but ended up having to anyway. I love the love and dedication she had towards her children but my god this lady was like a dog in a cage at the beck and feed for her husband and children and had nothing to call her own other than mom and wife and those titles are a high honor but when it’s thrown at you by force and shoved down your throat it gets tainted and for Rudy it was tainted so bad. She was controlled in every aspect by her husband and was like a pretty expensive dolly sitting on a mantle waiting to be freed and rescued staring out with eyes showing years of secrets, depth and desperation. Honestly “that man” that was called her husband don’t even deserved to be named in here so all “that man” did to her and then some was some of the most disrespectful and degrading things ever. When Minnie broke free from those chains to fly again after finally having enough I was jumping for joy and she soared soooo high it was such proud moments in book 2. It made me want to give her a hug for the amount of strength she had to leave and start over just to be the best version of herself for her again and for her kids I loved every moment of her finding herself again. Her kids were so intuitive and encouraging I loved them they were A1.
Rudy’s best friend Iris is the definition of best friend who is a sister that women was with her along the years encouraging her to do better for herself and building her up, when the time came of her finally leaving Iris said you ain’t say nothing but a word I got you !!!! That woman said start your business now and I’ll be your first client and pay you that money 👏.

This story was rewarding to me in showing that you can start over with god by your side and achieve what you deserve. Rudy was blessed abundantly by god after her trials. The ending left off so good it was in a happy for now place with a bright future ahead of greatness and I love how Diamond didn’t make Rudy’s healing involve a man anytime soon just growing to love herself again while enjoying her freedom and being w her kids but still giving a side view of what future she will have later on ☺️.

The side-notes stuck in my head

~I wanted Rudy to beat the breaks off dirty Tweety and dusty Amina so bad her reading them for classy filth was nice but I needed her to give a one, two pop especially on DIRTY tweety her whooping was deserved from 20 yrs ago double time especially after the funeral my lord Rudy was to nice 😭. I hope when dirty tweety son grows up he learns of who his momma and daddy was and reads his mom for filth because she is such a disgrace pinning after a man unavailable and pinning after a women’s life she wanted so bad but got the audacity to talk so much ishhhhh about her. That why she was left behind with a wet behind 😪😪😪

~ I needed Bella Rudy’s eldest to whoop that Francis girl because I wish someone would come to me about my own family business especially on my mother so disrespectfully but it’s always people like that who will learn the hard way especially the way that she’s being raised by her mom and surrounded by women who have no integrity and taking other peoples men

~ Love the representation of showing the experience of parents dealing or handling having a child with autism Rudy was such an advocate for her baby 🫶

~“That man” who was her husband should have gotten locked up he was a coward narcissist from day one

~ Angelo was the fresh air Rudy needed ‼️ I hope in the future she can experience that real love from him

~I wish Rudy could have met Bonnie that bond would have been extraordinary especially given the circumstances

~ Rudy’s birth scene made me wanna hush her she was so overlooked and overwhelmed

~ Her mom and grandma lord help them I’m just glad her momma got it together and apologized for the generational curse she forced on her to endure. I’m proud that Rudy is instilling in her kids from young to get their own things in life without a man, breaking family trauma and abuse.

20 Stars Worthy

This sequel did not disappoint at all. The writing style, various plots, and twists after twist all meshed together beautifully. I thoroughly enjoyed the amount of layers this author provided throughout the entire series. I am partial to fiction books that aren't predictable, nor cliche, and this checked off every desire in my "reader's heart." I loved how she brought every part of the story to life after providing glimpses in book 1. Everything came around full circle, and answers were provided. The character growth within Rudy and Portia were truly beautiful to see unfold in a realistic way. My only low points in this reading were the errors that caused me to re-read sentences to understand or me having to add the correct word(s) myself. In addition, there were times when there was simply too much embellishment on "how tiny Rudy was," like we get it, the lady was small, ok? And the constant reminder while Bella, Claire, and Georgia's characters were talking about "how advanced "they were. We get it. It was literally said a million times each conversation. Zarcadi's character was portrayed to the point of trust so much that I started thinking of real life, Zarcardi Marshalls! This was one of the best "round" characters within a book I have EVER read! (I have been an avid reader since 1997). Zarcardi's character gave so much background information and maintained the front lines as well as his chapters were simply impeccable! Every emotion he felt from his narcissistic ways to his bitter raw emotions of love poured out within these pages. He was the character you hated to love. In addition, to be an avid reader, I love when I can constantly think about a book while reading it and anticipate finishing it after work. This series was a page turner from start to finish and is by far my favorite books of 2024. I purposely did not provide details of the book because "no spoilers." I will, however, encourage you to just start reading, especially if you enjoy multiple storylines, multiple plots, real-life family secrets, and the chickens coming home to roost on old southern women and their perceptions. If you have triggers, double-check the content matters first. Other than that happy reading, and enjoy this work of art! The author's note was chef's kiss at the end as well!

This book took me through every emotion. I’m so glad that Minnie and her children got the peace that she deserves. Being from GA Albany is just 2.5 hours from me and it is definitely small town vibes. I hate that Zacardi didn’t get to see Minnie flourish but he knew he had lost it all. Great read. Knowing Diamond she will have something up her sleeve with these characters. Also Dr. Iris!!!!!!! (Let’s put some respect on her title) Everyone needs a best friend like her. True definition of a friend and a ride or die. I’m glad that she rode through the storm with Minnie for over 15 years. I love seeing their friendship it was truly beautiful.

A 5 ⭐️ series HANDS DOWN!

Zacardi Marshall is DEF top 5 book villains. Probably top 3. Not quite sure what to classify this book. Maybe a thriller? Either way it was sooooo good!

Part 1 was definitely triggering but part 2 tied things up so beautifully. I was so happy for Rudy and how things turned out for her. I feel bad for the children and all of the secrets that kept spilling out. It was A LOT!

That woman Teanie I think is her name, she needed a good old fashioned beat down for the role she played. Smh some people just don’t care.

Lastly the voice actor for Zacardi was TOP TIER!!!! I loved him sooo much and he played the mess out of that role! Such a great read!!!

This book will have you emotional! But it’s the growth of Rudy! The way she over the storm that was called her life and marriage at the time. Yeah she had a moment! But she got up and never looked back. It was never settling. It was Zarcardi’s irony for me! He gave her hell for what she did! Never letting her forget! But look what happened with him!

Rooting for Rudy

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. After reading part 1 I just wanted Rudy to win!!!! Rudy won in the best way and didn’t have to do anything out of character. This story had so many layers. Her mom, grandmother, husband and best friend all had past trauma and hurt that was talked about in part 2. Excellent read.

Must Read!!!!!

If anybody try to tell you, you can't break the chains of a generational curse. You tell them "Watch me". Rudy is a prime example. For fourteen years Rudy was Mentally, Verbally, and Physically abused by her husband Mayor Zacardi Marshall. For fourteen years she endured disrespect and him stepping outside their marriage. Fourteen years of hurt and pain from Zacardi. For as long as Rudy could remember. She also dealt with the hurt, pain, belittlement from her mother Portia. Suffering in silence while taking care of five children and secrets being revealed led Rudy down a dark path and she tried to commit suicide. However during her recovery. Rudy grew strength. She fought her way through the darkness. Starting with walking away from her marriage. Iris is the best friend all women need. She poured so much love and positivity into Rudy and helped her tremendously. Zacardi became bitter and miserable. He knew him and Rudy children were her life. He tried using their children as ammunition against Rudy by keeping them away thinking it will bring Rudy back home. Their oldest daughter slowly but surely started finding out the truth with her parents marriage. Bella realized the man who she admired and looked up to was a monster when rumors started circulating. Learning the abuse her mother suffered from her father. Had Bella looking at Zacardi with disappointment and disgust. Zacardi skeletons were coming out the closet once it was confirmed he was connected to Green. Instead of taking responsibility for his own actions. He tried to blame Rudy for his life falling apart. While Rudy was getting herself prepared for a divorce and to fight for her children. She was also given an opportunity she dreamed of. Being able to make her dream of Interior Designing come true after her high school friend Angelo had gave her the motivation and opportunity. Rudy started walking in her purpose. Counseling was definitely helping her to move forward and to get herself together mentally. Learning about who Bonnie Mcloud was. Lead Rudy to having a sit down with her mother Portia. I had to give Portia grace after hearing her story about how her mother Mimi raised her and her story about Rudy father. Rudy gave her grace as well as forgave Portia after they had a heart to heart. When Rudy ran into Green. She realized being married to Zacardi all those years. She really didn't know who he was. Especially when Green offered to kill or have Zacardi set up to go to jail. Rudy figure out what business Zacardi had with Green and feared that her and her children would get caught up in the mess. Zacardi knew he was on the police radar when they kicked in his house, searched it, and took him in for questioning. The walls were choosing in on him. Being voted out from his position as Mayor had him losing his mind. When videos were released of him beating on Rudy, committing murders, and doing drugs transactions. Zacardi turned into a coward. Rudy was booked and busy, taking care of their children, finally getting the chance to live freely, going on a girls trip. Rudy was living her best life while karma had came for Zacardi. Rudy was sad for her children because she knew no matter how much of a monster Zacardi was. His children love him. I couldn't do anything but shake my head at Tweety. She was the true definition of a dumb ass side chick. She better be glad that Rudy had class because any other woman would've whooped her ass.

10/10 definitely recommend part 1 and 2 of southern belle!
The way this book captures you with so many feelings and opinion. To understanding the characters and why they are the way they are. My girl Rudy finally saw the rainbow and I love that for her. I hate that the the children had to suffer a lost because zacardi was a lotttttt of thing I means a lot but he could have gotten better for the kids he took the easy way out like the b**** he was but hey. And tweety she just pissed me clean off like girl this man was literally imaging his wife while being with you but you thought having a baby after he died was a great idea like are you dumb.

But my man my man my man ANGELO. Rudy said “he told me if I ever I left him that no man will love a women with five”

My man Angelo said well luckily I got my own money house and a table that can seat 12 people. Did It for me. I wished we got to see their love story because ANGELO definitely needed more screen time.

I say this to say READ THE BOOKS. I loved them These were my top favorites of 2024.

Loved IT

A wonderful series and ending. Rudy Rae was able to find her strength within herself! Rudy, understood over time that she didn't need Zarcadi or a man for that matter to achieve her goals. I went through so many emotions from sad, to happy and then mad and back to being happy! Abuse is painstaking, whether it's , physical, emotional or psychological all of these factors of abuse can shape someone's life, good, bad or indifferent! Zarcadi was a very self absorbed human being, but I understood his childhood shaped him to a certain degree, he did all of those things to Rudy, because she didn't fight back and her mama and mimi condoned it! I was more than happy that Rudy decided to break the cycle when it came to her kids. Everyone need a Iris in their life, she was truly Rudy
s best friend! I hope to see more of Rudy Rae, she deserve to find love and I believe Angelo is her person!

After the storm comes the rainbow

I didn’t leave a review for the first book because i honestly didn’t know how to feel about it. I was telling my friends I HATED this book because of the way the women thought. I told them I didn’t want to finish reading it, but something told me to continue and I happy I did. The roller coaster of emotions I was feeling during this book I can’t even process. Ruby Rae didn’t deserve anything of the hell she went through. But she overcame all of it.
I have absolutely nothing to say about Cardi. (Is it bad, that I actually felt bad for him at the end?)
Ruby mama and Mimi could catch these hands tho. They were the main reasons why I didn’t want to finish this series. I’m not gonna say much because I don’t want to give any away.
Is this different from what Diamond has written before? Surely is.
Is this something I’ll read again: No, I don’t think my emotions can handle it.
Would I recommend this series for you to read? Absolutely!

Im really disappointed to the point I just started skimming. Where was the editor ? Where was the drama and the angst? Too wordy about things that didn’t matter. Plot lines thrown in for the sake of the story that had no real Substance. Why didn’t we see the convo with Bella and zacardi? The thoughts and actions of some characters seemed unrealistic. Especially the very mature kids. If she gave me 100 more pages in part 1 to have all this in it I think it would’ve been better. With that being said I will read more from the author because part one for me was five stars

This series ended well. Rudy was built Ford tough, to overcome all the obstacles thrown her way. Zacardi was a horrible husband, and Rudy’s mom & grandmother was just as horrible to her. Rudy’s children & best friend were her only saving grace. I would have loved to see Rudy & Brixx relationship blossom into something more. But overall this book was well written.

"Southern Belle 2" by Diamond D. Johnson

My Perception:

After you have read part 1 of 'Southern Belle,' please pick up part 2 of this story to get the whole story that will not leave you hanging.

I wondered if Rudy would ever have enough sense to leave that horrible Zacardi. Well, that finally happened after another beating.
I want to tell only a little of the story because I want you to read it for yourself and see how well this author brings the story together—one by one! I will say a particular person got what he deserved, and I'm sorry. I couldn't feel a bit sorry for him. It's too bad he didn't get the help he needed, but this is what can happen if you do wrong by hanging with the gangers who deal with drugs, and he knew better.

The story did turn out well after all that had happened to poor Rudy. I am still trying to decide if I like Ruby's sister, but hopefully, it will work out. At least Ruby can care for her five children, being an interior decorator, which is very important to her.

This good story will keep you turning the pages till the end. But be sure you read not only part 1 but part 2 of 'Southern Belle.'

By the end, you will get the following questions answered:
Unanswered questions might include:
- Why did Rudy stay with her abusive husband, Zacardi?
- What was the relationship between Rudy, her mother, and her grandmother?
- How does the story unfold in part 2 of the novel?

At the end of every storm comes a rainbow. Rudy’s storm was filled with betrayal, childhood trauma, physical abuse, verbal abuse and family secrets. With her back against the wall, she knows that she must provide for her five children, but can she do it without Zacardi? Rudy knows that it’s time to spread her wings and be the woman she was always destined to be. After being in a marriage for fourteen years that slowly dimmed her light, Rudy realizes her comfort zone will kill her. Something has to change and it has to happen now.
•••••
Ohhh this book was perfect. I know a lot will want the Cinderella ending and without spoiling it, depending on what that means to you….she does get it. Born and raised in the South, this book resonated with me so much. We are taught at an early age that the goal is always to be a mother and wife. To be “fruitful and multiply.” I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with those roles. Love and motherhood is beautiful, but I truly believe we are in different times and a career woman is just as dope (even though I say I want a man to retire me every other week). I don’t feel that a woman not having a husband or kids is the end all be all though society thinks differently. Our worth shouldn’t be based off the likes of a man or our womb. I loved seeing Rudy have her time and being successful off the strength of who she was and not by the man’s arm she came in on. & nooooo this isn’t me promoting being hyper independent, trust me….it is exhausting. But I won’t lie and say I don’t get a rush knowing I am capable of always making things happen for myself. Long story long….read part two!

🌺 Book Review: Southern Belle 2 by Diamond Johnson

Whew… baby. If the first book made my soul ache, this one set it on fire.

Southern Belle 2 picks up the pieces from book one—and then shatters them all over again. Diamond Johnson ain’t just telling a story—she’s exposing generations of Southern secrets, quiet pain, and the brutal reality of what it costs to be a “proper” woman in a world that only values your silence and your smile.

This sequel? It’s deeper. It’s darker. It’s damn near devastating. Watching these women continue to protect the men who broke them, the reputations that buried them, and the image that robbed them of their voice? It was gut-wrenching. But also? It was necessary. Because this is real. This is what so many women lived—and still live—through.

And when the truth finally came out? Whew. That ending wasn’t just a plot twist… it was a reckoning.
You don’t walk away from this book the same.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I can’t even lie. Some parts felt repetitive, and that caused me to lose interest at times because it felt like the story was going in circles. Still, I stayed invested because I needed to see how everything was going to end.

I can’t respect Zacardi at all. He moved like a straight coward, and every chance he had to stand up and do the right thing, he folded.

Rudy, on the other hand, stood 10 toes down. She handled hers and didn’t crumble when things got messy. I respected how she held it together and made tough decisions when it counted. She really carried this book for me and was a big reason I stayed locked in.

And my soft spot will always be kids, so I really felt bad for them throughout this story. They were innocent in all of this, yet ended up dealing with the consequences of grown folks’ choices, and that part was just sad.

Overall, this had its moments, but it still delivered enough drama to keep me turning the pages until the end. This was still a good read.

Beautiful Story

As much as I disliked Zacardi, my heart ached for the way he went out!!!…
The Rainbow that came after Rudy’s storm was AMAZING!!!…Im glad she was able to learn some things about her biological mother!!!…
Tweety was a whole mess and I hope everything with her and her son balances her out and she realizes she is more than the woman waiting on the wives to go to bed to have her time with a man!!!…She was so comfortable being the consolation prize!!!…
Iris was an AMAZING FRIEND & I love her she supported Rudy after she finally left Zacardi!!!…
Portia’s mom had her messed up and she definitely put that on her children!!!…She definitely needs some counseling too!!!…
I’m hoping there is another story about Angelo and Rudy because I was over here smiling we he walked into the picture!!!…
