From Simon & Schuster, Where to Go From Here is a guide to discovering your own life's wisdom in the second half of your life.
Cautioning that there is no magic carpet ride to a blissful elderhood, Jim Birren offers readers the ability to let go of the fears from the past, to understand and be themselves, and to see the future as a wonderful adventure. The result is living longer better.
I highly recommend this book for those who want to learn new insight into the 'second half' of one's life. James Birren was a pioneer in the School of Gerontology at USC and UCLA. He also encourages everyone to write 'their' story. I was recently introduced to his writing and wisdom and he also has other books to peruse.
Wow. This book helped me to remember and reflect on the first 50 years of my life and "put together the pieces" to form a more whole view of myself. It made me feel excited to the possibilities of the future as well. There are many questions in this book and most are thought-provoking. Some questions are difficult. Here are a few example questions: 1) When did your childhood end? 2) What was the first decision you made for yourself? 3) What are some of your best times? 4) How do you know you're loved? I'm trying to buy less books but I will buy this one, to reference and use as a guide as I write about my life.
If you want to understand your present and know how to move forward, I would strongly suggest you read this book. Not only does it help you understand why you are somehow who you are today, it also helps you think how you want to spend the remaining half of your life. Bonus! It walks you through writing your own autobiography, which I have yet to do!
