Footprints over Moira

Rate this book
Historical stories taken from one thousand years of life in Moira, County Down in Northern Ireland, The quiet, romantic community of Moira has grown so quickly into a busy commuter village. It struggles to retain its charm and at the same time provide the infrastructure and resources for a 21st century community. The pace of progress has almost buried the memory of people who made a huge impact on life in Ireland and far beyond. Moira is a village that has, in many respects, influenced change on several continents. This little volume is an attempt to follow the footprints of some who walked here in days gone by. Some were residents and others were visitors; some came to destroy life and some came to improve it; a few were extremely wealthy aristocrats but many laboured in extreme poverty; some lie today in impressive vaults but thousands lie in unmarked graves. All walked over Moira and have gone, but they still have much to teach us as we follow their footprints. Page 27 Charles Whitefield should read "George" Whitefield
