During the early years of Alex Ferguson's Manchester United career, the Scot came in for some unmerciful treatment from most of Manchester United's fan base. This story tells of Andy Pacino and his brothers' stoic belief in Ferguson and the relationship that grew between them, the manager and the club which is Manchester United. A foreword from the Britain's most successful ever manager tells of the respect and trust that grew between them and continues to this day.
I bought this on the strength of a foreword by the best manager ever to have lived, and I wasn't disappointed. This isn't the usual match description book that so many football memoirs are, it's a journey of a group of brothers who support through thick and thin. Yes, there are a couple of scraps and scrapes, but the essence of this is the level of admiration Sir Alex had for those very vey few who supported him while things were tough. It's the journey through the life of a proper football fan, and I am so glad I read it. It only Took me a day to get through, and when Sir Alex wrote, "It made me laugh, and it made me cry," I can see why. It's funny and poignant, and if you're a proper United fan, you will love it.
As a united fan who was at the matches as the same time this book covers, I can well see how the passion fed the guy and his brothers. His descriptions take you right to the stadium and to the games, though there are not a lot of games covered, as this is more about his relationship with the players and manager, forged through proper support when everyone else was against Ferguson. Great read, well recommended.
