ONE NIGHT...ONE VOILENT SUPERNATURAL BATTLE ...AND FIVE STORIES OF THE MEN WHOSE LIVES WILL BE CHANGED BY IT.
Kane, Brethan Guardian and one of the few Natural Shape-Shifters left in existence, survives the bloody battle of Brahm Hill---but loses two of his closest friends. For all of his good-natured sarcasm and eye-popping good looks, Kane finds himself unable to completely forget about that night, so he seeks comfort in the one thing he is truly good at...sex!
This shape-shifting bad boy believes in having a good time---a very good time---usually involving mingled heavy breathing with a sexy Dhampir in a tiny closet somewhere. But when Kane is sent into the freezing tundra of the Northwest Territories to investigate a troublesome supernatural being reported to be on the loose, he soon crosses path with a woman who almost instantly drives him insane with desire...because she doesn't seem to be falling for his charms.
It's completely inexplicable.
Skye Matthews has a job to do, and she needs to be focused on that, not spending all her time rebuffing the advances of this way-too-cockly and handsome stranger. Yet there is something irresistible about the self-involved playboy that she can;t seem to ignore. And when the 'Unidentified' Kane is sent to investigate takes an unnatural interest in Skye, protecting her becomes the Guardian's top priority.
BUT...CAN HE SAVE SKYE FROM A SUPERNATURAL BEING NO ONE HAS EVER ENCOUNTERED BEFORE?
Christine is the author of The Charmed Trilogy. She lives in the scenic Pacific Northwest where she enjoys hiking, camping and photographing many of the wonderful places that served as inspiration for her novels. Her biggest reward in life is any given day when one of her books connects with a reader, because she herself is such a lover of reading.
4.5 Stars! An extraordinary blend of fascinating supernatural beings along with a captivating story made this a stand-out read!
The unexpected twist in this book sets it apart from your run of the mill paranormal reads and for this reader it was a pleasant surprise that I really didn't see coming. When you finally realize where it's all going...the title of the book, Someone Else's Skye...clicks!
Skye is a stubborn, determined sprite of a woman, and I found her to be utterly delightful. Kane is an insatiable man-whore, he can charm the pants off of anyone, but he has no desire to form a relationship with a woman, that is until Skye comes into his life and she turns his world upside down. There is an immediate attraction between the two of them and as the story unfolds, and you find out why, it all makes perfect sense. It's not just insta-love, there is a real reason why these two are meant to be. I enjoyed the interactions between Kane and Skye, and to say these two sizzled when they were intimate, is an understatement. Not only where their couplings passionate and sensual, there was something sweet and special about them! You know there is more than just sex at play here and I thought the author did an amazing job in relaying this message without giving too much away until the moment was right! Bogart...what can I say...I loved him...you'll see!
The subtle frat boy humor and sarcasm from the men of The Brethren added to the overall enjoyment of the book. It isn't the posturing that you find in most paranormal books, it flowed naturally throughout the read, fit the personalities of the characters and had me chuckling. It also solidified the camaraderie between them, you know that they are more than brothers in arms in their fight against evil...they are family. I can't define any of these men as secondary characters, as they all have a major part in the plot.
This is everything I look for in a book; an interesting, appealing story that flows well, with surprising turns that keep you guessing, characters you can connect with, humor, great dialogue, and fantastic couple chemistry. You are satisfied with what you read as the book wraps up, but are intrigued enough to want more.
My only real issue was with the epilogue, it was just another chapter in the book as far as I'm concerned. Kane and Skye's part of the story comes to a pleasant conclusion, but this all far from over, and from what I can see the characters we met here will most likely be involved in the remaining books, however the epilogue was a good set-up for what's to come.
I'm excited about the next book, Guarding Poppy, featuring the mysterious and intriguing Alec Lambert! Christine Wenrick's writing and storytelling have taken hold of me, and I'm in this series for the long haul!!

SOMEONE ELSE’S SKYE is the first storyline in the paranormal romance series ‘Men of Brahm Hill’ by Christine Wenrick and is a spin-off from her Charmed Trilogy. At the time of reading the novel, I was not aware that this particular series is a spin-off and although many of the names and scenarios are drawn from the Charmed Trilogy I did not feel disconnected from the storyline. The opening scene begins where the Charmed Trilogy left off-a devastating battle where friends and family are lost. The secondary players from the first series are now front and center in the Men of Brahm Hill.
The storyline focuses on Kane Matthews – a natural shifter – who has been sent to investigate a series of gruesome supernatural murders in Alberta Canada. The killings are unlike anything anyone in the community has ever seen-the killer leaves behind no scent, no trace and no DNA but the murders are horrific and graphic. And to complicate matters, witnesses reports a ‘whirlwind’ of epic proportions that appears to have some sort of connection to the killings.
Kane will first meet Skye under ‘mysterious’ circumstances and as the storyline progresses, Kane and the other men of the Brethren will discover that Skye is some how connected to the most recent happenings. But there is something about Skye that draws Kane into her circle; his heart and his soul recognizes Skye before his mind has had a chance to decipher the truth and reality of their situation.
The relationship between Kane and Skye starts as captive and captor but soon the pull between the couple is beyond their control. The sex scenes are sensual and hot; and in the end, the reality of their relationship can be traced back to the gods, mythology and history.
The secondary characters play a major role in the storyline. We are introduced to Kane’s family of fellow supernatural powers and each will have a story to tell. There will be heartbreaking revelations and confessions and with it comes the knowledge that not everything and everyone is who or what they appear to be.
Christine Wenrick continues to tell the tale of her supernatural shifters, vampires and Lycans. She pulls the reader into a story shrouded in the mystery of mythological creatures and the gods themselves. This is a story of repressed memories, sorrow and pain, hope and love. But it is also a story of mystery, suspense and action as the Men of Brahm Hill are on the hunt for a killer with no recognizable characteristic, motive or DNA.
(Source: I received a digital copy of this book for free as part of the ‘Someone Else’s Skye’ Blog Tour. Thanks to author Christine Wenrick, and Book Monster Promotions.) Kane is no stranger to women, as long as there are plenty of condoms, and no beds involved, he’s there, and so are they. He wants sex, but he doesn’t want a relationship, and that’s the way things are, until he meets Skye that is.
26-year-old Skye is blonde and beautiful, and also seems to get herself into dangerous situations, which is why Kane decides to detain her until he can work out what exactly she was doing facing some strange, unknown supernatural baddie, on her own, in the middle of nowhere. Skye isn’t about to tell him her secrets though, she has an assignment, and she plans to complete it. What is this unknown supernatural entity that seems to be killing people? Why does it seem oddly attracted to Skye? What is Skye’s assignment and why has her father sent her after this creature anyway? And will Kane change his womanising ways for Skye?
This was a really good and sexy paranormal romance, with some really interesting and unique plot points.
I really liked Skye, she was both fragile and commanding, all at the same time, and I loved the way that she captured Kane’s attention, even when she wasn’t trying.
I liked the storyline in this book, although some of it was expected in a paranormal romance, I liked the way the author had taken time to add some really unique ideas to the story, that made the rest of the story just as good as the romance. There were also several little twist and turns that I didn’t see coming, and that really captivated the imagination, and I loved the way that the author had written stories about characters that readers of her previous series would easily recognise.
The romance in this was sweet, it was sexy, and it was so full of emotion that it was blissful. I loved the way that Kane and Skye acted towards each other, and the love scenes were sizzling! This was definitely one of those books that makes you blush, and makes you want to read it all over again! The ending of this was happy and special, and I love that we are going to find out about the other men of this world in the other books in this series. Overall; a great adult paranormal romance, with oodles of sexiness. 8 out of 10.
Thought this looked interesting. Read sample-guy is a man-whore. First chapter he's banging a girl in a closet then gets in trouble in the hotel he's in for having sex in the kitchen with hotel employee and another employee he's already banged walks in on it....fight ensues. Just not for me.....
ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review
This is the latest installment from one of my favorite authors, Christine Wenrick. I read her first series earlier this year, The Charmed, and I adored it. It is one of my favorite series this year and you can find my reviews for them here.
I was very excited to get to read this ARC and thank you to the publishers and Ms. Wenrick for giving me the chance to.
If it is possible, I loved this new book more! When I got to the end I couldn’t believe it, can I have the other four in the series NOW please? Finishing this book left me feeling bereft I didn’t want to the book to end, I just wanted the story to continue and for me to discover who the other four men will be to find their soul mates.
Someone Else’s Skye is the first in a new 5 part series, The Men of Brahm Hill. Now if you have read The Charmed series you will know that there was a battle at the end of the final book, The Charmed Fates, and this new series focus’s on the men that were most affected by this battle.
I don’t think, to enjoy this series, you would need to have read The Charmed Series. There is enough of an introduction and a recap of some of the battle scene for you to grasp what happened that night, but as with any series that follows on from another, the reading experience is made much richer if you have read the first series.
Ok so now onto the good bit, I will try to keep this as spoiler free as possible, but if you are planning on reading the first series maybe stop reading this review now…. you have been warned.
Someone Else’s Skye follows the story of Kane, one of The Brethren’s Guardian’s. This story allows us to get to know the man behind the jaguar, Kane is one of the worlds natural shape shifters, meaning he can shift his body to that of an animal at will; it makes him a huge asset to The Brethren, as his animal instincts give him an edge on his human counterparts and makes him an excellent tracker.
The story begins some weeks after the events of Brahm Hill and all effected are feeling a little raw and still trying to process the loss of two of their best friends. There are reports coming from the North of a strange supernatural being attacking the Lycans in their dead zone, and the local fraction of The Brethren are struggling to locate and catch this new being.
Kane being the best tracker they have, is dispatched to assist with locating and establishing what this new supernatural being is and making sure that their world is safe.
However his mission is not to be as smooth as he had hoped. When he arrives at the local center, he is met with the most alluring woman he has ever laid his eyes on and he is no stranger to women – he practically eats them for every meal. A fact that has contributed in his being sent North on this mission as he is causing havoc in headquarters.
Meet Skye a spunky female who has no intentions of falling for his charms and, despite the attraction she feels to Kane, she doesn’t want to give in to him and become another conquest of his. She is on a mission and doesn’t want anyone to get in the way of this.
Kane is instantly attracted to Skye but from early on, he is experiencing different feelings for this woman, he wants to protect her and take care of her, this is something entirely new to him and not something he is comfortable with, especially seeing as the new supernatural being is intent on getting Skye and appears wherever she is.
I think I experienced every emotion possible when reading this book – I laughed, I cried and I was so invested in this book I think my poor boyfriend felt neglected.
I won’t tell you anymore about the book for fear of spoiling it for you but I LOVED THIS BOOK and I want the rest of the series as soon as possible. If you like PNR then I think you will love this new series. I would advise reading The Charmed series first if you can as it will enhance your reading and you will have four books instead of one to devour!
I am jealous of anyone who is picking up Christine’s books for the first time, Yes that is how much I loved it :)

Let's get this out of the way so (hopefully) I can focus. Kane has some serious sex appeal. I'm not joking. When he first stepped onto the pages, he just exuded this raw masculinity that made me as a reader take notice right away. He's intense and loyal but also fun and intelligent.
Okay, here we go!
Someone Else's Skye is darker than its predecessors and begins on a somber note. The Brethren Guardians are trying to pick up the pieces after the bloody battle of Brahm Hill. The revelation that their former leader/enemy was not only a vampire but also killed one of their own has left them shaken and struggling to recover. Now that enemy's nephew, Alec is their new leader and though the Guardians trust him completely, it's clear to shape-shifter Kane that their leader has changed.
One of the last natural shape-shifters left, Kane is a powerful asset to the Guardians, so when Alec sends him up north to track down an unknown supernatural being, Kane thinks it's just a punishment for being caught with his pants down one too many times. He doesn't count on meeting Skye Matthews, a woman on a mission. Literally. She doesn't have time for Kane, as sexy as she finds him, and she has no intention of sharing the reason behind her mission.
Despite their attraction to one another, Kane and Skye find that they have to work together in order to find and deal with a new supernatural being, one that they don't know much about.
Someone Else's Skye technically picks up where The Charmed Trilogy left off and while the Charmed Trilogy was told in first person, Someone Else's Skye is told in third person, which is awesome because I didn't want to miss anything from any of the characters. Most of the characters I remember from the Charmed Trilogy and as a reader I've become very attached to them so being able to see the entire picture rather than just through one characters' eyes was interesting.
Kane and Skye were an interesting pair. Bickering one minute, making out like teenagers the next and then fighting their growing attraction after that. Watching the mighty playboy fall for one particular woman was fun, he deserved every obstacle that was thrown in his path. He had to learn to appreciate Skye and she had to learn to appreciate him, theirs was not an easy relationship. Though physically Kane and Skye don't get involved until late in the book, it wasn't really an issue with me (Surprised myself with that one) because there was so much developing in the book that it kept me intrigued all the way. There's more to both Kane and Skye than I originally thought.
One of the most pleasant surprises in the entire book was all the twists and turns in the story! Just when I thought I had things figured out, author Christine Wenrick would throw me for a loop. How could I not keep reading?
Christine Wenrick doesn't let her readers to get too comfortable with her characters. She shocked me with the deaths of two characters on Brahm Hill and I'm wondering how those deaths will affect her remaining characters, and of course, if she's planning on killing off any more characters (I hope none of my favorites bite the dust). Though Someone Else's Skye is a spin off of The Charmed Trilogy, you don't have to read the trilogy to understand Someone Else's Skye though you'll get a better picture of where Kane and the others are coming from, and in my opinion Olivia and Caleb's story shouldn't be missed, Christine won me over with The Charmed Trilogy, the very first adult romance I ever read (and enjoyed) that was told in first person. Someone Else's Skye may be the first book in The Men of Brahm Hill series but already I can see the series becoming one of my favorites. I truly cannot wait to see what direction these books go in.
I have definitely found a PNR series to add to my must-buy list. I am in love. It has a little of everything I could ask for. Someone Else's Skye beautifully balances humor, action, mystery, and romance. This is definitely a favorite for me this year.
Our main characters Kane and Skye were great. The chemistry between them just jumps off the page. Kane thinks he is God's gift to women and he may be right. No one can resist. I loved him. He is the very definition of an alpha male and I loved him all the more for it. Skye may look like an angel, but she was a little spitfire. She could really hold her own. I love that she is never intimated or even scared. She is as much of a badass as the guys. I loved that she didn't immediately fall for Kane's games. I loved the witty and funny dialogue between them. The mind games they play on each other had me laughing so hard. I also enjoyed the side characters as well. Aiden was a lovable giant. I hope to get more of him.
I wasn't aware that this series is a spinoff of Wenrick's other series, The Charmed Trilogy. As a matter of fact, I hear the book begins where the last of the trilogy left off. There were times when things were mentioned that I thought I missed or something, but now it makes sense. But this book is still fine to read on its own though. Wenrick does a great job for those that may be out of the loop. I will be reading the Charming Trilogy though because I am curious about characters that were mentioned early on. I really love Wenrick's style though. She gave our characters a lot of depth. Nothing is as it seems on the surface and I loved that. It really kept the book suspenseful.
I loved the plot. There is something fast and untouchable that is killing off Lycans. Lycans and vampires are in a war with the shifters. Lycans are essentially the bad guys. You don't want to cross them if you are human. Things are getting nasty, but whatever it is that is out there may be an even bigger threat. It is considered an "Unidentified". No one knows what it is, but it is faster than a vampire and it is killing Lycans without even leaving a scent. Whatever it is, Skye is the only one who might have a clue as to what it is. She has been sent on an assignment concerning the Wraith (that is what they call it) and she can't let anyone know about it. But that isn't the only secret she is hiding.
This was an amazing read. This story was engaging and unique, which I really liked. Wenrick really knows how to write a compelling story. I was hooked from the first page. The characters are memorable and strong. I was so invested in the story. I just couldn't get enough of it. This is a definite favorite. I look forward to more books from Wenrick. Highly recommended.
I have to say something first and foremost. I am so glad Christine found my blog and asked if I would review her first book in her The Charmed series. I wouldn't have been able to read this awesome spinoff!
Alright, so Someone Else's Skye pretty much picks up right after the ending of The Charmed Fates which was, one hell of an ending. If you y'all haven't read this series yet, you don't know what you're missing. Of course you can read Someone Else's Skye and not be left off, but it does give you a bit more of an insight as to what happened to the characters in the past. That and it's an outstanding series and I highly recommend it.
So we have the entirely too sexy shifter, Kane, as our book boyfriend this go round. In the previous books in The Charmed series, he is a complete playboy and will sleep with pretty much anything of age with a pair of legs and boobs. One of his latest...let's call them ladies...had another issue with one of the other ladies he was having some sexy time with and a big catfight broke out. As a punishment for what I'm going to call the last straw, he is tasked to find out what is happening up north where a load of unknown supernatural stuff is going on. Not happy at all with this outcome, his tune definitely changes when he spots the hottest thing on two legs he has ever seen in his life. Too bad she was nothing to do with his...legs.
Skye has a mission she is required to complete. Unfortunately, she finds herself in the path of the supernatural being more than once and in the path of a shifter that utterly oozes sex by just breathing. It's kind of hard to get the job done when all you can think about is the possible hot sex that could be had but she was more determined to make her father proud. She just has to convince Kane that he can trust her.
I knew this book was going to be good but Christine knocked it out of the park with her twists and turns. The ending of the book had my jaw on the floor from the twist she threw in there. She's really good at that and I love it (almost) every time. (If you've read The Charmed series, the third book had some surprises that had me actually saying out loud, "no!") I cannot wait until the second in the series comes out. I've been waiting for Alec's HEA for four books!
(Rating: 4.5) Oh my! Hot men, hot romance, hot sexy scenes. This is what an engrossing paranormal romance is all about. Author Christine Wenrick knows how to lure a reader into her novels quickly and successfully. Just as she did in her Charmed trilogy (I still remember that train scene), I was completely hooked. Someone Else's Skye is the first book in the Men of Brahm Hill series, featuring characters from the Charmed trilogy. The epic battle at the start is from the last book, The Charmed Fates, and it is a scene rife with anguish and sorrow as the survivors survey the carnage around them. Kane is a Brethren Guardian, one of the remaining natural shape-shifters, and he has lost close friends during this battle. How does he mourn? By having sex.
Sent to Alberta, Canada, to investigate a string of puzzling murders, Kane knows this is an otherworldly culprit and gets involved in solving the puzzle. He meets Skye and he feels an immediate draw to her but she doesn't care. Of course, this makes her even more alluring, coupled with her blond hair and body. Skye also feels an attraction, but unlike Kane, doesn't act on it--at first. There is a job to do--to find a murderer and stop him/her/it. Kane hasn't dealt with the type of creature committing these murders but his job is protect Skye, even if he isn't sure what he's keeping her away from.
Not knowing what the bad guy is or looks for makes for an intriguing read. The author offers an engrossing read filled with her take on paranormal creatures such a s vampires, werewolves, angels and Greek mythology. Did I say engrossing? Yes, besides the mystery, there is a marvelous tale of otherworldly beings, the human world, a steamy romance, and action to keep hungry eyes well fed. I liked both characters as individuals and as a couple. They worked well together.
Someone Else's Skye reminded me of why I love paranormal romance so much. When done exemplary, as Christine Wenrick exemplifies in this novel (and her others as well), I am transported to a place and completely lost within its realms. I look forward to my next trip with the men of Brahm Hill.
Dude, what? Why the heck have you all not read this book? Seriously!!! I love Kane. I loved him in the Charmed Trilogy, and I love him even more in his own book! Someone Else’s Skye picks up right where we left the The Brethern boys in book three of the Charmed Trilogy. Kane is still the sexy beast he was in those books, but more so now that the spotlight has been shined directly on him. And yes he is a beast, he is a natural shifter after all. And that comes with some unique abilities on the fighting field and in more compromising situations. Christine can write steamy scenes like no other author I have ever encountered. She cranks them up to ten and then goes over to an eleven. It’s intense and fun to read. But she’s got more than just sexy writing chops. She writes excellent characters who are more than the sum of their body parts, and great action scenes. You want to lose yourself in a book, then I suggest you pick up the Charmed Trilogy, and Someone Else’s Skye. I truly believe that this book can be read solo without needing the other books. Because it is a new series, but in the same world as the trilogy. But honestly, after reading this you’re going to want to read the other books. No you’re going to NEED to read her other works. She’s just that kind of author. I got lucky when she asked me to review her stuff, because it introduced me to her, but even if she hadn’t asked me to read the rest of the trilogy and Someone Else’s Sky I would have hunted the books down and bought them. The paranormal world that Christine has built is unreal (as in it’s amazing), and fun. It’s sexy, dangerous, and fast paced. Things happen fast for these characters, and they hit hard. It’s a full impact type of read. You can’t not be attached to the story. I am simply in love with it. Just when I think PNR has nothing more to offer me I read one of Christine’s books and get sucked back into it! They are just so good! I cannot wait for the next installment. As in I need it now! And I am begging for an Alec book. Are we getting an Alec book Christine? Pretty please!!!!!
Oh My! I really loved this book! I had high hopes since it it was Christine who wrote it. Of course I was not dissapointed at all. This book and series is a new/spin-off series to "The charmed" triology and after reading it I was very happy to know that we would get some more of The Brethren. The plot of the book is perfect and there was no boring moments. There is always something happening but not to much at the same time. Just perfect. I know I am lifting this book high in the sky but for me it was just THAT good =).
The main charachters of the book are Kane, the oh so sexy guardian Brethren and the witty and feisty Skye. I liked their personalities and they go so well together. I fell inlove with their playful banter and bickering. I could find myself reading in public and I was barely able to keep it together. Just pressing my lips tight to keep from laughing hysterically and looking like a crazy person lol.
Kane is a playboy through and trough and has always been. Until he meets Skye... He tries to restist but just can´t. What I loved was that with him it was no games and no lies (almost). He was straight forward with Skye in regards to their relationship or whatever you can call it.... He is such a strong charachter who values friendship alot. He has a strong friendship with Aidan who I really liked. I hope we will get to know him more as the series goes on.
Skye is also such a lovable charachter. She is a kick-ass and feisty heroine with a really smart mouth. She always know what to say and almost never get tounge tied...except when it comes to Kane. She has a really big heart and always puts everyone else before herself.
Kane want's Skye badly but he always seems to want what he can't have. Skye want Kane bad too but she can't be with him. Why? Well you just have to read it.
We also get some big twists and turns in the book that I loved and was really stunned by.
This is the perfect beginning of a new series and I can´t wait to read the second book!
I actually liked this book! It was well written, the characters were likeable (or unlikeable, depending on the character), extremely steamy (you can feel Skye and Kanes want but denied it!), actually Laugh out loud in places, smiling at the way some things are written.
ok, so lets start with Kane. Opening a book with a scene of a guy with a girl in a phone booth where he cant remembers her name - made me laugh! i should have thought "ooh you lowlife" but i couldnt! Everything about Kane is just so likeable. Hes the typical player, avoids commitments, lives by 10 rules (two main ones!) but is like the naughty boy where you cant help but forgive him and like him!
hes sent to....a very out of the way place after being caught in....uhhmm..several comprimising situations with the staff once too many. The reason was that there was a "situation" that needed his expertise. Hes not impressed as you can imagine..what no women!??
So he and Aiden take the trip up to the middle of nowhere to help the "boys" out. Turns out there IS something that needs to be figured out and taken care of urgently. Something that moves quicker than a vampire and disappears like a ghost. Not an easy task.
3 girls on "assignment" bump into Kane and his lot, and kane takes it upon himself to take them back to the boys lodgings to try and keep them safe.
Wont say any more. But the outcome at the end, i have to say surprised me, but in a good way! its something ive never come across in paranormal books but i did enjoy reading.
Its been left open ( a mixture of "nooooo!! dont do that!" and "yaaaay back to visit the boys".... ill be picking up the next book, and do hope that the writing stays the same, as it really does make a massive difference to reading a book! Not much concentration needed, but not an easy book to put down as you can just keep turning the pages..!! Enjoy!
Read on behalf of Book Monster Promos for an Honest review..
Someone Else’s Skye is the first book in the Brahm Hill Series. It follows Wenrick’s Charmed Trilogy which ended in the battle of Brahm Hill. I felt the actual battle was a little anti-climatic in book three, but it set us up for this series. I recommend reading the Charmed Trilogy first so that you are familiar with the characters and their back-stories as Wenrick does minimal recapping here.
Sticking with what I felt was a successful format in her previous series, the storyline of Someone Else’s Skye keeps a tight focus on the two main characters, Skye Matthews, and Kane, a rare, natural shape-shifter. Kane is not a bad boy, he’s a naughty boy, a playboy that we’ve secretly adored throughout the Charmed Trilogy. In this first book of the Brahm Hill Series, it’s fun to see him want something, or more specifically someone, that he can’t have. In the past he would have moved on, but there’s just something different about Skye and he can’t walk away; he can’t just leave it alone. Skye is a new character (or is she?) who also introduces us to a new species of supernaturals that we were unaware of in previous books. I like that Wenrick is continuing to expand the possibilities in her alternate world while keeping the individual stories tight enough to understand and integrate into the broad picture.
This might have been just a four star read for me because it is a slow burn, at times just slightly overdone or repetitive. I’ve bumped it up to four and a half because it explodes in a twist that I did not see coming. I knew something was up, I had my guesses, but I was wrong. I like it when I’m wrong. I like it when the author has me convinced it’s going to go one way and then justifies it going another. Can’t wait for the next one!
Looks like I have a new series to follow! Someone Else's Skye is a delightful paranormal romance with quite a few unexpected mysteries. The dialog is witty, the men are sexy and the twists are surprising and unexpected. This is a great book to whet the appetite of any fan of paranormal romances and most certainly anyone who loves shifters.
Kane is so sexy but such a wicked boy! OK let’s call a spade a spade and say it out right…he’s a man whore. He’s two life rules I find comical and you just KNOW they will come back to bite him in the butt. The one thing I truly found fascinating about him is that he is a Natural Shape-Shifters. I love books with shifters but never have I read a book where a shifter can change into many forms. I can’t say too much about Skye character without giving anything away so I will just say she sassy and quite the enigma. The interactions between the Kane and Skye run the gambit from funny to sensual. The cast of secondary characters I find quite charming and knowing this is a series, I can’t wait to read their stories.
This is my first book by Christine Wenrick and I’m delighted to know that Men of Brahm Hill series is a spin-off from her Charmed Trilogy. Since I have a while until the next book I think I’ll give the previous series a whirl. As for Someone Else's Skye, I highly recommend reading this excellent book. It’s definitely a paranormal book worth reading.
I received this book from JeepDiva for the express purposes of an honest review. The opinions and rating of this review are solely mine and in no way was I compensated.
One choice, One moment in time and None of their lives will be the same again!! This is the story of Kane a Brethren Guardian who fought alongside his comrades at Brahm Hill and witnessed a hell only a small few could ever truly come back from.
Kane lives his life on the edge no attachments just a good time but the playboy image he portrays to those around him hides a much darker secret.
Skye Matthews is on a mission. She has a job to do and nothing will stand in her way. Failure is not an option for her as in her line of work the consequences are unimaginable.
A mysterious creature has appeared in The Northwest Territories and Kane a natural born shifter and Aiden are sent to investigate. Upon arriving the stories they hear don't appear to make any sense and to make matters worse there is a woman who seems determined to put herself in the centre of the danger. Someone Else's Skye is so well written you just breathe in every word as you turn the pages just waiting to see what happen next. I loved this book and I am sure you will too!
I think I have just found a new, absolute favourite adult PNR series to add to my Top 5 list. I bloody well loved Someone Else's Skye.
This book had everything that I want from a PNR: action, humour, sizzle and a hot-as-hell alpha with a kick-ass female protagonist. I'm always a little anxious taking on a new series within one of my favourite genres. It's so easy for books to become cliché and overdone. This was not the case at all with Christine Wenrick's Someone Else's Skye.
The plot concept, the unravelling of the storyline, and the build up to the next book in this series was remarkably well crafted and demonstrated lots of originality. The characters Kane and Skye were strong, yet the author gave them layers that we were able to peel away, allowing us to understand their motives and personalities. This successfully won me over. I liked them both. A lot. I wasn't unintentionally annoyed or frustrated by them. Each feeling I had was orchestrated by the author. Every emotion I had was intended. Christine Wenrick is a talented author who knows how to weave an original tale with flair and skill.
This is definitely a don't-think-just-buy read!
Disclosure: This book was provided by the author in exchange for an HONEST and not necessarily positive review.
Someone Else's Skye is technically the first in her new series Men of Brahm Hill, but it is just as much a spin off from her Charmed Trilogy. If you haven't read The Charmed Trilogy I would suggest you get and read that first, it is not necessary to read, understand and enjoy this book, however it will provide you with more background and a greater understanding of the world in which Someone Else's Skye takes place in.
We meet both Kane and Skye in the Charmed Trilogy with Someone Else's Skye we have the opportunity to get to know them better and hear their story. Ms. Wenrick writes a witty, sexy and fascinating story in a world where shifters are on the decline and are warring with one another. Amidst this backdrop we have the love story of Kane and Skye, Kane the playboy who uses sex to forget his sorrows and Skye who has no need for said playboy in her life.
I enjoyed the tie ins to the Charmed Trilogy and I loved the way we get to know each character and their personality as well as some of the reasons behind their flaws. I loved that Skye doesn't fall at Kane's feet like so many other women, that she has her own agenda that comes first.
Someone Else's Skye is the first in a 5 book series and I am looking forward anxiously for the next 4 to come out.
Fantastic. I loved Kane from the beginning when we met him in the Charmed Trilogy but in this book he was 10 x better. Smart ass comments and a sexy swagger make him a great lead character. Longer review to follow on the blog I fell in love with Kane in the Charmed Trilogy, he was such a player but you could see the underlining need to be loved. He is the love 'em & leave 'em type but never puts his heart out there. Kane is a shifter, a jaguar shifter, who works with the Brethren who are a large group of people that are trying to protect the world from evil. During the battle at the end of the Charmed Trilogy, Kane is on the battleground and sees a beautiful woman appear. He knows she is not really there and is shocked to find the real life version of her when he is sent on a mission to find a creature killing anything that is in it's path. Skye knows she is different, she and all of her sisters are special and with her father's help she is sent on jobs to protect the world. When old lies and half truths come out Skye and Kane learn they are more than two people who are starting to fall in love.
Even though this is a first in a series, this is a spin off series and should ultimately be read after reading the Charmed trilogy. The big battle that starts this series is actually the climatic battle scene from the last book of the Charmed trilogy. The main characters from this story are actually secondary characters from the previous trilogy. So I think that, had I now read the Charmed trilogy, I'd have been lost going into this story.
I really enjoyed catching up with all of the characters again. Since they were secondary characters in the previous storyline, we didn't really get a chance to know them on a deeper level. Plus there was the added bonus that the "Angel" from the last book turns out to be Skye. However, it isn't revealed what she is until the end of the story. So the entire time I was guessing what she was that made her invisible to the Lycans.
There was also the added mystery behind the Wraith. It appeared to be attracted to Skye and always seemed to pop up wherever she was. It was described at basically the Loony Toons version of the Tazmanian Devil. So the identity of the Wraith isn't revealed until the end of the book as well.
I was so excited when I found out the author Christine Wenrick was continuing off of The Charmed Trilogy with the Men of Brahm Hill series. This first book of the series was a must read for me and I just couldn't put it down. This book surprised me from the first page to the last. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book in this series. I fell in love with Kane, Skye, and Aiden...The struggles and friendship between Kane and Aiden, the uncertainty with Kane and Skye, and Aiden finding his true self. To really understand this book I do recommend reading The Charmed Trilogy first.
I thought this book was awesome. Kane just cracks me up! BUT you get to see the "softer side" - It's quick though - he still remains the fantastic smart ass I grew to love in the Charmed series. I think Skye is perfect for him as well - and love her character a lot as well!! Can't wait for the next book in this series!
A true adult paranormal romance for sure.. a sure read. Kane has his hands full with this one.. a young lass named Skye who seems to get into mischief and very bad situations although she does know what she's doing Kane doesn't and holds her back. Skye has a great aurora about her and Kane notices and things really do heat up. This is part of a series.
OMG! Kane is super sexy and hilarious. When I first read his character in The Charmed series, I was infatuated. Now I'm in love!!! His witty charm makes me tingle...Skye tingled too. Loved this book!
The plot twists, characters, and locations are so well written that It felt as though I were there. Can't wait for the rest of the series.
This is a great paranormal book! It's a spin-off apparently. I haven't read the original series but I had no problems following the storyline. It's fast, exciting and the got lots of great characters. The alphas are sexy and hot! :) Great series.
