The Parson of Kympton: A Pride and Prejudice Variation

Rate this book
A chance encounter begins a friendship between the Bennets and the Darcys…but in the face of wicked scheming, can love overcome selfishness?

Mr Darcy knows perfectly well that George Wickham is not suited to be the parson of Kympton. Yet Wickham has received his ordination, and Mr Darcy cannot bring himself to break his late father’s solemn promise. He has no choice but to grant Wickham the living of Kympton and hope that he has overcome his heedless selfishness and become a better man.

The three oldest Bennet girls are visiting London to spend time with their aunt and uncle, not to mention enjoy the opportunities of Town. When Mary strikes up a surprising friendship with Georgiana Darcy, Elizabeth is too pleased by the happiness it brings her sister to protest…even though she does not much care for the proud, standoffish Mr Darcy. But can Elizabeth understand his character and her own heart in time to find love - and save both the Darcys from the vicious scheming that threatens them?

The man who ought to be the parson of Kympton is close at hand…but it will take all Elizabeth’s wit, courage, and resolve to trust her own heart and find a happy ending.

4.5 ⭐️ This was a delightful P&P variation almost completely away from Longborne. A number of characters were just barely mentioned but that did not take away from the fresh twists in the story. I will be reading more from this author!

Wonderful book!

This book is wonderfully written with couple pairings I had envisioned in my mind while reading other P&P variations. Thank you Beatrice Langford for making my musings become a fictional reality and so charmingly. I love your writing style and anticipate more great reads from you. Katherine

A charming P&P variation.

There are a few minor errors as can be expected that are easy to overlook with one that stuck in my mind. It was nice to see Mary included in ways that don't change her drastically from the original like many variants tend to do.
The one issue I took with it is the rather abrupt ending. Of course Lizzy and Darcy get their HEA but it would have been nice to see a bit more for Jane and Bingley as well as Mary.

Very Lovely!!

I always love it when we get to see Darcy and Elizabeth fall gently in love with each other with zero real angst. I also love it when Lady Catherine is something other than a horrid person. Caroline forced to wed Wickham is an added bonus imo.

I loved it!

It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. You will see the most beloved characters in a whole new way. This is a Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice variation. A chance encounter begins a friendship between the Bennets and the Darcys, but in the face of wicked scheming, can love overcome selfishness?Mr Darcy knows perfectly well that George Wickham is not suited to be the parson of Kympton. So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. I highly recommend to everyone.

3.5*
I was expecting something angsty from the description, but it wasn't. Yes there was scheming, nut either I was super mellow while reading or it was just laid out in a manner that was relatively anxiety free. I was a little disappointed, because I do enjoy a good angsty read. That aside it was a feel good, pleasant couple of hours spent.
The plot strays from canon quite a bit and we are spared some of the drama for ODC as a result. Far less pride and prejudice to overcome - just some self doubt and sometimes slow to come self awareness. The calming and grounding presence of the Gardiners and the absence of the chaos of the rest of the Bennet clan is to be thanked.

Okay

This was a light read. There were a couple of things I questioned in the storyline, but overall, it was decent.

- Collins, Mrs. Bennet, Lydia, and Kitty were a nonfactor in this story (phew!)

- Mr. Bennet makes a cameo appearance.

- Wickham, Caroline, and Lady Catherine's malice were toned down.

these make my heart happy

“Patience, my love, there will be many more to come”

I love these Pride and Prejudice variations! This variation comes from Wickham becoming the Parson of Kympton. Much the same. Much so vastly different and thought provoking. I love it!
