During the day I work as a Technical Evangelist with Microsoft while managing the Windows Apps ecosystem in the Gulf region. When not working, I try to write technical books. I have 2 published books to date which include:

- Developing Windows Store Apps with HTML5 and JavaScript
- JavaScript Promises Essentials

Prior to joining Microsoft I was writing code and developing web applications for some good 7 years. I was awarded Microsoft Valued Professional (MVP) in ASP.NET/IIS and Visual C#, in 2012 and 2013 consecutively . In that period, I was working closely with Microsoft Lebanon, and was featured a frequent speaker at their events namely TechDays Beirut and Open Door. As part of that tenure, I have delivered numerous training sessions and workshops on HTML5, .NET, Windows Apps, Visual Studio and Microsoft Azure targeting developers, IT enthusiasts and university students.

They have given me to read a book to review and give my opinion. Although it is not Java, I found interesting is the view as HTML5 and JavaScript.

The book is called " Developing Windows Store apps with HTML5 and JavaScript "If you are a web developer and want to develop applications for Windows8, you may be interested in this book.

The first two chapters give a concise reference on HTML5 and CSS3. The concepts are clear and well detailed on the attributes. When is CSS3, mentioned about additional attributes that MSIE handles to improve the distribution of the components.

The JavaScript section for Windows Apps makes a total reference to class WinJS. Not sure, but I think that is a legacy of JQuery.

After doing a great introduction to what is going to work, begins to mention the tools to make applications for Windows 8, such as Visual Studio 2012 (express), Windows 8 SDK and other components.

Everything mentioned in HTML5 / CSS3 is elaborated in the following chapters using the Visual Studio. There is also a section for data management in the GUI using the JSON format, list management data in tables.

What is fashionable is Responsive web applications, and this issue is not excluded from the book.

Finally, describe how to display the application as a tile and how to handle the notification area. Authentication as well as the application and use SSO environments on Microsoft Live.

This book is well crafted as it covers all the basic and specific aspects that should have an HTML5 app for Windows 8. If you have some web idea and want to make an app for Windows 8 users exquisite, I recommend you purchase this book. You're not going to regret it.
