51 winning quilts--one from each state plus the District of Columbia--are featured in full color. There are quilts from the coast with sun patterns; quilts from the central states boasting mountain ranges, clear skies, and majestic trees; city quilts with factories; quilts inspired by the history of a town; and quilts created from children's drawings.
Ms Wilson brings her enormous knowledge and readable to tracing the history of quilting in America, while treating the reader to beautiful full-color photographs of masterpieces from our past.
If you have any interest in quilts, you will love this book. It covers quilt history and the Great Quilt Contest of 1975 (the author was a judge) as well as photos of the winning quilts. One quilt was chosen from each state and the District of Columbia for a total of 51 out of 10,000 entries. There is also a how-to section covering the entire process of producing a quilt and 16 quilt patterns chosen from the winners. Great book!
This book contains some of the quilts from the 1975 "Great Quilt Contest", which accepted quilts from all across the us. Some are more traditional, but some are more current including a pop-art gum wrapper quilt. Nice photos and instructions are included for some of the quilt patterns and techniques. Not a bad quilting reference book if you run across a used copy.
