Urban elements: Furniture and microarchitecture

This book, aimed at both users and creators of elements and spaces of the city, brings together a selection of 132 pieces of European street furniture and microarchitecture . These elements are situated in the public space, and united by the shared purpose of providing a service to the public; a service that encompasses a great range and variety of uses and functions, as these emerge in line with the new needs of the city. All of the elements featured in this present selection are in production now and currently available on the market; recently created or reinterpreted, they are all, in one way or another, innovations in design or use of materials, or have some specific added value of their own. Little pieces of architecture by world-famous figures such as Norman Foster, Renzo Piano, Aldo Rossi, Jorge Pensi, Bach/Mora or Philippe Starck. The book is structured in the form of descriptive profiles, easily accessible, full and informative, of each of the featured elements; these identify the designer and the manufacturer and give the complete technical and formal characteristics, together with photographs and scale drawings.

Que bom existirem livros como esse! Enquanto muitas publicações apenas discutem sobre os elementos e mobiliários urbanos em teoria, ou mostram fotografias de bons exemplos, este livro tem a generosidade de apresentar desenhos técnicos! Nós, arquitetos e urbanistas, precisamos disso!

Os desenhos são limpos, claros e se encontram em boas escalas. São abordadas diversas categorias de mobiliários urbanos, o que é excelente e não tão comum, e dentro de cada uma delas há suficientes exemplos para que se compreenda uma média das variações existentes. Indico este livro para todos os que forem não somente projetar novas peças, mas também inclui-las em seus projetos arquitetônicos e urbanísticos.

Muito bom para consulta, e muito interessante para uma leitura completa. Recomendo muito!

Nothing like a books like that! While many publications only discuss urban elements and furniture in theory, or only show photographs of good examples, this book has the generosity to present technical drawings! We architects and urban planners need this!

The drawings are clean and on good scales. Several categories of urban furniture are covered, what is excellent and not so common, and within each of them there are enough examples to make it possible to understand an average of the existing variations. I recommend this book to everyone who will not only design new pieces, but also include them in their architectural and urban projects.

Very good as a reference book, and very interesting for a complete reading. I highly recommend it!
