This is a book to touch your heart. If you really want to be challenged, not to be a missionary, but to deepen your walk with God, then I recommend you read this - if you dare. Prepare to have your conceptions challenged.

I liked how the author describes this book. “So this is the story of my own ‘journey into love; of how love came down and restored me. Taking me from a place of brokenness, desperation and fear into a new world of life, joy and hope. And this is how we now have the privilege of having our lives used by God to rescue and see sectored countless others on the beautiful continent of Africa.”

The author gives an account of how they were lead to minister in Africa and how God provided for them and the mission. She shares many stories this is one about when a lady came up to her in church one day and asked this question, “Excuse me, can you tell me how much your mortgage payment is a month?” “I thought that this was a bit rude to ask a total stranger and I replied by giving a rough figure and asked her why she wanted to know. She quickly got out her check book and wrote a check for the exact amount, gave it to me, smiled and walked away.”

Nicola said they were late on paying their mortgage and shares, “I was stunned that I didn’t know what to do, but a thought immediately entered my mind that’s amazing but checks take four days to clear and I have no money to buy food for my son today.” “Instantly I was tapped on the shoulder by a young girl who handed me a pile of twenty-pound notes, smiled and said, “The Lord just told me to give you this. He says it’s to get you through the next few days and that you will know what that means.” I was totally astounded.”

The author says, “I have seen Jesus. I have seen his love cause the blind to see, the lame to walk and the broken to be restored. It has happened countless times, over and over, again and again and I know that scripture is true when it says, “Love never fails.” (1 Corinthians 13:8)

The author describes their families’ faith walk and how they found a joy they never imagined, scripture was made real, as they had a close encounter with God’s love. They were encouraged to keep dreaming even in the darkest times.

She shares heartwarming, fascinating stories of God’s love in action. It’s a gripping account of a couples encounter with the most down trodden and how God gave them the strength, courage and perseverance to minister to this group who lived in the slums in the West side of Kampala. This couple answered the call to help the poor, needy, and the sick in Africa. Their story will tug at your heart and awaken your soul to how God works through you if you let him. I liked how she shares the struggles as well as the victories.

Woven into the authors’ personal account are short poems and narratives written by the Africa team about the children and/or events they experienced; included are revealing pictures from the communities they ministered to. This is an inspirational story you won’t soon forget. This author describes situations in a transparent and honest way that will capture your heart as you are made aware of the needs of communities, how God supplies and gives hope to everyone in these unbelievable living situations.

“I found love. It was a love that was real, a love that went deep, a love that never changed, a love without limits, a love without an agenda. It was there for me every morning, fresh and new. The love was transforming me from the inside out, healing my heart and changing my life.” The author goes on to say, “His love is always available to me. It is always reaching out to find me, even in the darkest places of my life. It is unchanging, never holding back, always strong, always dependable and ceaseless in its pursuit of me.”

She quotes Mother Teresa. She puts it so beautifully, “I am just a little pencil in the hand of a writing God who is sending a love letter to the world…” Be encouraged. Find out more. Visit their website Revelationlife.org.uk

Journey into Love: The Unfailing Power that Restores Lives
by Nicola Neal

Publ: Destiny Image c.2014

Setting: Bath, England; Kampala, Uganda

Nicola Neal was living a life of ordinary in England. She and her husband Simon are led to adopt a child. They wait 5 long years until the child God chose for them is brought into their lives. Chantelle became a blessing to the whole family.

Next the Lord challenges Nicola to stretch her faith and develop a closer walk with Him. He leads her into a thirst and hunger for more of His presence. He shows her how her life can be deeper and fuller the closer she walks with Him.

Then the Lord asks Nicola and Simon to take a real step of faith and move their entire family to Uganda without setting foot in Africa before. In answer to their yes, He moves them to Uganda in 12 short weeks. He pours a love for the poor and destitute of this country into their hearts.

Nicola walks us through their lives leading up to the move to Africa with openness and honesty. She shares her struggles and victories with us. Then she walks us through the challenges that they faced in Africa. She shows us the absolute poverty with which they dealt and the marvelous moves of God of which they were blessed to be a part.

Interwoven with the narrative are short works by members of their African team. These pieces are overlaid on photos of the Ugandan slums where the Neal’s and their team ministered.

If you want to be challenged to move forward in the fullness of God’s love and to follow wherever He leads read this book. If you want to sit comfortable back and maintain the status quo of your spiritual life don’t even begin to read this book. This book will encourage you, make you uncomfortable, and make you desire to see God move in your life in a new way. And Nicola shows you through her walk that it is possible. Please read this book to find out what a faith walk looks like from the inside.

This nonfiction account of an English couple’s call to follow Jesus no matter the financial struggles and lifestyle changes truly humbled me. I marveled at their willingness to answer the poverty and desperation of Uganda by sharing their lives and God’s love. As one worker wrote: “Yet maybe it was inevitable that my heart would be wrecked for the broken and unlovable. After all, they are my Daddy’s (God’s) favorites.” I am all too aware that the sacrifices required of me have been tiny compared to the needs in the world and what the author and her team willingly gave. They trusted God so completely for their provision and guidance.

This is truly an inspirational story of how God can use willing souls to care “for the least of these”, and the tremendous joy and satisfaction that comes from obedience to His will and “ aligning my heartbeat with His.” Or, as the author wrote,” to lay down everything she was, to have a deep and intimate love of Jesus, and to count her relationship with Him as more valuable than anything else.” Various members of the team offer heart-felt poetry to express their experiences, and these come at the end of each chapter by the author. Take the time to go to Revelationlife.org.uk and the Facebook page for more information and wonderful pictures. I received this book through The Book Club Network, but the opinions are solely my own.

Journey into Love by Nicola Neal was a fabulous book. I could “hear, see, smell” her heart throughout the whole book. She painted such vivid pictures of her relationship with Jesus and how when you are totally devoted to Him, even though it may be rough going sometimes, when you are where He wants you, it’s peaceful.

I loved how she talked about love. I was challenged when Jesus challenged her. I am still challenged. In fact, as a result of reading this book, God spoke to my heart and challenged me with an area where I need to change. The great thing about God? He has been gently and slowly preparing me for this change so instead of feeling guilty and condemned, I’m convicted and challenged to be the best for Him that I can be, in His strength.

This book is one I will highly recommend to everyone. There are so many wonderful elements to it - it’s hard to explain except to say, “I think you will be changed if you read this book with an open mind.”

One of the best nonfiction books I have read. A heartwarming and touching story of God's love for us. By following God's will for their life Nicola Neal and her family left their home in England and moved to Uganda, where people are living in extreme poverty and are in need of so much, to share God's love for them. I admire them for their endurance in accepting God's call, how they dealt with many struggles, the sacrifices they made and the love they shared with others. Some of the stories are heart wrenching. By being obedient the road may have seemed hard and never ending but Nicola and her family found true joy that only God can give. An inspiring story. I am glad I had the chance to read this book and recommend it to everyone.

What a thought provoking book! Nicola Neal shares some of her experiences when she and her family moved to another nation. She definitely shows all the love and compassion she has in her life. Some of these stories will be devastating and heart wrenching. It really made me realize how fortunate and how rich I really am! Nicola's whole focus on this book was about love. God really showed her how to love these people with His love. None of us can really love on our own; only God can give us that love. Nicola is definitely a servant of God and I was really impressed with the love she was able to show these people she lived with. I would encourage everyone to read this book. It will change your life! I received this book from bookfun for my honest opinion.

This is a very personal account of the author's journey, from God speaking to her and her husband for him to quit his job, them being on staff at their church for seven years, then feeling called to Africa. They now minister God's love to slums in Uganda. She gives many lessons she has learned along the way. This is an encouraging book as well as convicting.

I found this an interesting book. The author was a missionary in Uganda and these are some of her stories with the people she served. Between each story is a poem about a particular child or event. Nicola tells of how she and her family decided to move to Uganda, how the country and people changed their lives, and then why they left. Overwhelmingly the message is about love for God’s people, especially his little ones and how it changes your life. I received a copy of this book from bookfun.org for my honest opinion and review.
