When she takes the plunge to investigate, what she finds is a whole other world desperate for her allegiance and hers alone. To make matters worse, this ‘whole other world’ is the enemy, and they promise her unimaginable power. Wish & Mercy is book of the Nightwalker series. It follows the storyline of 8 siblings belonging to House Hallenar. One is a Queen, one is her Right Hand, one is a necromancer, one is a mom, one is a daemontologist, one is estranged, one use to be a bully, and the other seems to be very different than the others.
When Queen Allanis hosts a family reunion, no one expects Aleth, the estranged brother, to show. He's been gone for 10 years. But when he does, he warns the sister he was closests with, Tizzy, that war is coming. Tizzy and Aleth leave to find answers- specifically why are they different than the other siblings. And they may get more than they bargained for.
Overall, this book was really hard for me to get into at first. I won't lie. However, I was invested by the end. Specifically, in Allanis' story and the events unfolding in her kingdom/with the siblings in her home. I'm not a fan of Tizzy and Aleth's story which is funny because that's who book one is named after lol.
I did find the chapters to be very long. I would have liked them broken up more. But I did like epic fantasy feel with so many moving parts. I'll be reading Book 2.
“You’re the only one who doesn’t feel like a stranger.”
Wish & Mercy is book one of the Nightwalker series and ends on a cliffhanger. This book deals with taboo subjects; please check trigger warnings before reading.
I struggled in the beginning, getting used to this book and the writing. It is told in 3rd person, with long chapters, and so many characters to get to know and follow in the book. I wrote notes to help me follow along and keep track of everyone.
Once I hit the 30% mark, I was fully invested in this story. And suddenly the chapter length didn’t seem so daunting, and I was sad to reach the end of the book. I am happy this is a series, and I will be reading the next book as soon as I post this review.
I loved all the twists and turns that this book had. Every time I thought I knew what was going to happen, another twist came and made me question what I had read so far. I loved how this book included the reader by keeping them guessing and having to keep the information you receive about each character straight in your mind.
The ending shocked me, but it was the perfect cliffhanger for this series and left me wanting more.

This series evolves around the Hallener family of eight siblings who became royal through marriage because of their sister, Queen Allanis. One night, their estranged brother returns ten years later with news of their kingdom going to war. Tizzy follows her brother for answers and uncovers not only a whole other world but discovers answers about herself as well.
This is a unique story of a family with many secrets. I honestly did not know what to expect from this book. I wouldn't say it starts out slow, but the start of this story really lays a great foundation for what unravels later on. There is a lot of information, with so many characters and their storylines, but as the story progresses, it gets more and more interesting. The story building is fascinating. It all interlaces so well. I love how it starts with just a simple family trying to reconnect and turns into an exploration of a world with adventure, mystery, and magic. This is a dark fantasy with a lot of distinctive characters. The slow development of each character is intriguing and necessary. It's like watching a movie or TV series.
AJ Gala created a well thought out world of dark fantasy, and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Her writing is detailed and beautifully written as all the characters are important to this story. The ending is a perfect cliffhanger for Book 2, which I am excited to find out more.
Please be cautious of Trigger Warnings. Romance is similar to GOT or HOTD.
This Book is perfect for those that like Dark Fantasy,Magic, and a unique world building and diverse cast of characters.
Wish & Mercy took me on a complex adventure, there are so many twists and turns. Every page, every chapter drew me in and I didn’t want to set this done at all. So many interesting characters, as well as creatures & Magic are in this Book. As a “debut novel” I was absolutely amazed by A.J.’s writing and storytelling throughout the whole book.
Wish & Mercy is a Medieval Vampire fantasy Book, we follow the drama of the Hallenar family. This family consists of eight siblings two of these eight siblings, Tizzy and Aleth. Both have secrets they are keeping from their family and each other…. *Foreboding music** As you continue through the story you learn more about the Hallenar family and the twists and turns that surround them.
Though this book is a chunky one it’s well worth the read! It’s well-written with a esquisute , and Enthralling plot-line that pulls you in. That makes you want to keep reading, the world-building is magnificent, it’s done in a way that doesn’t overwhelm you but just pulls you in deeper. The cast of Characters is diverse and so well done. AJ created this realistic world and you felt as if you were there with the characters yourself.
That Ending amazing, I couldn’t wait to start the Second book in the series right away.

If you like fantasy with dark elements, give this a read!
The super short of this, if you like immersive fantasy with dark elements and lots of twists, READ THIS!
Wish & Mercy is in 3rd person POV, which took a little getting used to for me, but was totally worth it. This story took me on a wild ride and I know it will live rent free in my head for a while.
It was a little hard to keep the 387 characters straight (okay, it’s not that bad), but they are definitely all necessary to the story in their own ways. The first couple chapters I struggled to keep track of whose pov I was in, but by chapter 4, no issues at all.
This book was endlessly unique from every other fantasy book I’ve ever read. I found myself constantly at the edge of my seat in excitement for answers. Then when you get those answers, there’s even more to discover! I also loved the super wide variety of species/races. They were described really well and added a lot of really cool scenes to the story.
This story has me so hooked and I’m absolutely looking forward to book 2.
The eight Hallenar siblings, each mysterious and unique in their own way lead this incredible fantasy rollercoaster. This is a high-fantasy drama epic with so many characters and creatures, my head is spinning.
While I did find it a little difficult to navigate so many storylines, I found that I enjoyed the book more and more as it developed. There is a great cast and each storyline is filled with secrets and twists that keep the fun going.
I loved Tizzy as a protagonist, fearless and funny, she was a constant presence in the book even when it’s just people talking about her. I can’t wait to see where the story takes her character.
Very intriguing start to the Nightwalker series that has captivated and pulled me in as any good book should! In Wish & Mercy you are introduced to the Hallener family and the start of unearthing many secrets for each of the 8 siblings. I will admit as it’s book 1 it was a bit slow going for me at first trying to learn who everyone is and become immersed but once I got my bearings I couldn’t put it down and boy is there a lot to learn! Allanis and her kingdom of Suradia and her siblings Tizzy and Aleth are worth a read as you enter a world of Queens and Nightwalkers and so many otherworldly creatures all wrapped up in one story. It’s all woven together so intricately and beautifully. Amazing read! I couldn’t wait to move in to Book 2!
This book had me like a ride full of ups and downs. The emotions were wonderfully written. The world building was amazing. The main characters were interesting. The plot of the story was attention grabbed and so were the beautifully crafted dialogues. There were a few things that didn't go for me but nonetheless I enjoyed.
The world building in this book was really amazing. There was a lot to take in but while some fantasy books leave you feeling like you had too much information thrown at you all at once and you dont know what happened or who went where AJ gives the information in a way that is entertaining while not being overwhelming and not letting the story suffer. I would 100% recommend this book to anyone who is interested in fantasy. Having said all that! Big Big Big warning that there is a relationship between the MMC and FMC and they are full siblings… this did not take away from the story for me in fact it added to it. It was just another part of what I loved about the characters but I wanted to give that warning just in case that is not for you!
