Rate this book
A guide to London's distinctive Blue Plaques which commemorate remarkable men and women who have lived in the capital. Its biographical portraits, listed in alphabetical order, provide informative and sometimes irreverent anecdotes about many of the famous and some not-so-famous lives. The Guide describes the careers of more then 700 individuals; well-known names such as Charles Dickens, Karl Marx, Jimi Hendrix and Florence Nightingale are featured as well as fascinating accounts of the antics and achievements of less familiar figures whose lives have also been commemorated by a Blue Plaque. Okay, I'm exposing my massive dorkiness but I love books like these. I'm a Londoner and it's so great to appreciate just how much history you're wading through with every step you take. I'd totally recommend it to any resident or visitor of this great city of ours.

c2015 4th Edition: A really interesting book. It is set out in alphabetical order as opposed to area and some of the little titbits of information are really interesting. There are some people I have never heard of before but can now understand why they warranted the blue plaque. Definitely recommended to the Londonophiles in the normal crew. "One of the more unconventional marriages of the twentieth century, as described in the best-selling book Portrait of a Marriage by their son Nigel Nicholson, was that between Harold Nicolson and Vita Sackville-West." Blue plaque situated at 182 Ebury Street SW1
