Read in my quest of reading more children's books (the dust jacket helpfully says "Ages 8 - 11"). It's rather slight (71 pages) but very much of its time (published 1958). Recently arrived from England, Jennifer goes to stay with a family on a station some 200 miles from Sydney. There she learns to ride and achieves a degree of independence that doesn't happen as much these days. A bushfire sees her emerge a brave heroine and that's about it. I think this is fairly typical of 1950s children's books - a bit of a girls' own adventure. Sweet but not essential reading.
