Chloe and Julius were dragged into the holy war of the Sacred Kingdom of Rasheed where they confronted the demon Samael, the Serpent of Death. The demon manipulated King Shesif by promising to impart his wisdom on how to create a world without old age and death. Chloe and Julius must face this demon to protect Rasheed and ensure he won’t steal any more of what’s precious to them!
The second arc of the (self-proclaimed) beautiful alchemist and the (extremely handsome) tsundere former general’s adventures in Rasheed finally concludes! After the battle, Chloe and Julius will enjoy a sweet and heartwarming moment together, too!
I have to say a good 75% of this book felt like filler fluff. The battle was over fairly quickly, then recovery time happened, then Chloe and Julias got to enjoy the sights of Rasheed and then receive their reward for saving the kingdom at the end. We get to meet a character I've been wanting to meet since book one and also another character I didn't think we'd actually get to.
I know a lot of people seem to dislike filler fluff on principal. I personally didn't mind it (on principal). I like it when characters get some space to relax and breathe and enjoy themselves in stories. Trauma bonding isn't the only worthwhile kind of bonding to witness!
That being said, I do want more story. They wrapped up a lot of stuff for the Rasheed arc (and even a few loose threads from the first book) but there are definitely still questions and room for more story left, so I hope book 4 isn't going to be too far off
A couple scenes were a wee bit spicier than the fluff in previous books. Nothing that will make Chloe a liar when she calls herself a maiden, though.
