A spellbinding thriller that will challenge your every assumption about faith... power... and violence.A charismatic priest, brutally crucified by the Vietcong, lies in a coma for year. Upon his death, he is canonized by the Pope. Nine hours later, he lives - and his message threatens to destroy the modern church. The Vatican wants him out of the way. And it will stop at nothing... for Father Pierre Labesse is either a risen saint - or Satan incarnate...
I'm guessing it's been around 30 years since last read. I didn't remember much of it but the premise would have appealed to me back then. I love the idea that the Church sends an assassin to silence the resurrected priest, it's like that song Star Trekkin' "We come in peace, shoot to kill" Overall a clever little thriller. My 1985 edition has the cover of a close up of the crucified priest's face which I failed to find on Google, not surprising it is quite a shocking image.
