Do all missionaries live in grass huts, wear taped glasses, have 13 children, and stutter? My, my, my. You really need to pick up this book. Through personal stories, cultural insights, and perspectives on the mission movement in Africa, Ryan Murphy shares what the missionary life looks like in the 21st century. All That You Can t Leave Behind offers an entertaining bridge into the unknown lands of missions work and challenges you to make a difference in your world for God's glory. Leave the ordinary. Live the extraordinary.
The book is written in almost a "blog" style with entries in chronological order for the most part, though there is some skipping around. It was interesting to hear about the tests and trials, and the living conditions on the mission field. The writing I would not class as outstanding, though it was good enough to get the message across. I related on an emotional level to the experiences described, and to the people. I came away with an admiration for Ryan and Heather, for their faith and willingness to sacrifice in order to serve God and others in the way they believe is their calling and destiny. Both informative and inspiring. Well worth reading. PS - I've just downloaded the sequel.
