A beautifully written book centred around a girl, Felicity, and the way she navigates a society which seems to hinder her at every turn. The reader is given a glimpse into the life of a young woman in Georgian England as the author captures the distinct, eloquent writing style of Jane Austen and transposes it to her own characters and their story, one which I very much enjoyed reading.

So I’m not usually a big historical romance reader, (other than the classics of course) but I fell in love with this book, like I have all of Faith’s books. Despite it being written a while ago it was well executed and the plot was so cool. I definitely recommend! Looking forward to reading the next books!

I enjoyed this book so so much!
Historical romance isn't usually my thing but I will definitely be reading some more after reading Faith's. 🫶🏻

This story follows Felicity and her journey through in a community and society that seems to throw issues at her at every chance they get!

All of the characters are so well developed and it was truly a beautiful story.

Would 100% recommend!

Technically this is the second time I have read this book.

This book follows Felicity, 1 of 4 sisters of Thorpe Hall, and she has feeling for a man that her parents wish she not marry, but to Felicity she does not care of the things that they do.
Until one day she is told she is to wed a man she has never met.

This book is a quick and easy read both as a physical and as an E-book (yes I have read both) the story line is fast paced but doesn’t feel like any of the story is missing anywhere.

The character development between Felicity and William, the man she has been forced to marry, was impeccably done, it have a sort of enemies to lovers trope that I absolutely loved. It also gave the ‘touch her you die’ aspect but for younger readers. He is so protective of his wife and it’s beautifully written.

Felicity has a dream of writing book and publishing them. However, due to the time period this book is set in, it isn’t something that she feels to be possible. That is until her supportive husband reads a manuscript of her writing while Felicity is away due to a family passing, and tells her he wishes to get the work published.

I would like to add that this book does go through topics of a loved one passing as well as grief that follows with it so please read this with that knowledge.

Tropes of the book

3.0 ~ a very sweet little tale inspired by Austen and Little Women. I liked the commitment to the austen-esque writing style and there were often nice turns of phrases.

This book is a little old, and so the author was quite young, but it shows real promise and prose-writing ability. I think her third book in this series is coming out soon and I’d love to see the improvement made after 4/5 years!

One minor note, is that I felt like the setting wasn’t super clear? There weren’t many references to clothing items (eg a spencer jacket) or events etc etc to pull you into the specific time era. Maybe this was on purpose? It deffo feels 19th century and as its inspired by Austen, I’ll just assume it’s regency. (Tho, maybe it’s on me for missing any references!). This is quite a minor point and it’s mainly from me as a history lover lol.

If you like historical romance with no spice this is for you!
This book was beautiful, beautifully written.
It was amazing to see how felicity and William went through their marriage and although it was arranged, it still turned out to be a beautiful story between them.
You really had an understanding for every character in the book and how they interacted with each other it really did set the scene for a historical Bridgeton vibe.
The fact this book had no spice was perfect as well since it is a YA novella.
This book is easily a 5 star read for me as I found it to be a really good read, easy to follow and it sets the vibes perfectly and how the story unfolded was perfect. I already want to read the second book in the series!

This was a charming and wholesome novella, very Little Women! I enjoyed the writing style - very much like the book Half a Soul. This was cosy and low stakes so it was a nice palette cleanser in between longer and heavier books.

3.5⭐️ enjoyable, but also not Faith’s best work - I do believe this was the first book she wrote though as a teenager, and when publishing it as an adult, did so with minimal editing so keep that in mind. I look forward to reading the books of the other sisters!
