Everyone's known some kind of bad the loud, the rude, the nosy, or the accusatory. Unfortunately, Myaisha's neighbor in suburban Greensboro, a hard-drinking man named Jared, is pretty much all four, even going so far as calling Animal Control on her beloved dog Boomer -- all while ignoring the destruction of her fence at the hands of his own kids.
Then, Jared is found mysteriously dead. While rattled, Myaisha is not overly shocked or upset, considering his habits and the trouble he gave her. However, there's only so much protection her detective friend Todd can offer her as the investigation loosely circles her as a potential suspect. Considering everything she has to lose -- a successful medical practice, her relationship with her college-aged son Josiah, her hunky fireman boyfriend AJ -- Myaisha uses what sleuthing skills she's developed as a hobbyist mystery writer to try and uncover the darker, sleazier layers of neighborhood life around her.
The third in Michelle Corbier's cozy "Write Club Mystery" series, Murder Between Neighbors is an eminently readable, highly entertaining who-dun-it that perfectly balances rich, relatable characters with a tense plot that twists elegantly toward a startling climax.
Hot times in the cul-de-sac! - The Desperate Housewives' antics have nothing on the shenanigans Myaisha's neighbors got up to. A whole swingers community right under her nose! All brought to light by the untimely death of the only person on the block who was actively disliked. Jared did get what was coming to him, his demise brought about to stop his demands for money to maintain his family under stressful conditions created by his alternative lifestyle. Full circle madness.
Everyone on the block is a suspect, especially Myaisha since they had outstanding grievances between them. The fence damage was an issue, but once he went after Boomer, it was on! But she didn't take him out, so who did? Mrs. Lula and Mrs. Allen are the unofficial neighborhood watch. Surely they can point a finger at the culprit to help the cops close this case quickly.
The conflicts in the office and Mrs. Doctor's love triangle are woven in well to relieve a little of the angst around the murders. Dina wound up standing up for herself in a big way (proud of her) and Myaisha figured out the guy she'd like to hold her heart. I like that Josiah even weighed in with his youthful perspective. A great read from beginning to end. More please.

Tropes: Doctor FMC Murder Mystery Revenge Hint of Romance
I hadn't read a full mystery novel in a while and this hit the spot!
Myaisha is an aspiring mystery novelist, that loves mysteries & has solved 1 or 2 before with her friend. Now when her less than friendly neighbor is murdered and she becomes a suspect, she's on a mission to get the victim's family justice & clear her name.
This was a good mystery, with a hint of romance. Myaisha at first seemed very full of herself and asympathetic, but she quickly pulled herself together and got to solving the crime! I was drawn to the story and couldn't wait for the mystery to be solved!
In the end everyone got what they deserved, which I loved!
I haven't read any books by this author, but that will soon be corrected. This was ning to end. an enjoyable cozy mystery that kept me guessing right up until the very end of the book. The characters were relatable and the story line kept me entertained from beginning to end. I really enjoyed the flow of this book as well as the characters, and I can't wait to get caught up with the author's previous books as well as anything she writes in the future.
I thoroughly enjoyed Murder Between Neighbors! Michelle Corner is a gifted writer who tells an excellent story. The storyline, characters, and setting all line up to make the read wonderful!
I didn't see the ending coming!! So many twists and turns. Can't wait to read the next book in the series. I can see why the author won an award for this story.
