A single mother, two brothers, tough choices, and second chances. Katie Schaffer is a single mother who slings drinks for a living and is just finding her footing after a divorce and the loss of her parents knocked her feet out from under her. Katie’s recent losses have left her alone to care for her precocious four-year-old son and a cocker spaniel with more energy than brains.
When she meets Arizona ranchers Jake and David McAllister, the two handsome brothers both go into a full-court-press to win Katie’s affections. While both men appear to have much to offer, Katie quickly chooses Jake, believing he is older and more stable, with a couple of kids of his own.
But the road to love is a whole lot rockier than she expected. Jake, still raw from his divorce, struggles with the pain of having his family torn apart. Katie soon realizes Jake may not have been as free to give his heart away as she had believed. She must now make some choices, but the options aren’t easy ones.
If Katie loses Jake, she stands to lose the entire McAllister family. Not only has she come to love them very much, but her young son adores them, as well. Having lost her own parents recently, the McAllisters have become her surrogate family. Is she strong enough to risk losing Jake and her new family?
If Katie chooses to stay the course with Jake, is he truly free to commit to her? Will he commit to Katie? Does she want him to?
Did Katie choose the wrong McAllister brother? If she walks away from Jake, can Katie survive losing her second family in three years? How would the loss affect her young son?
The choices are tough, but the consequences could be tougher.
Kayce is country through and through, and she writes snarky contemporary romance in a country setting—what she calls "Chick Lit in Cowgirl Boots," and she likes to throw in some magic now and then just for fun. Now she is adding nonfiction works to her catalogue, which includes dysfunctional family stories—something she knows a heck of a lot about.
Kayce is an author, a Butterscotch Martini Girl, and a consummate smart-alec, which shows in her humorous, heart-tugging stories about everyday people complete with broken hearts and all the flaws that come with being human. Some of her characters will make you laugh, others will touch your heart, but they will all take you to a world where dreams are possible, hearts can be mended, and people survive through the power of love.
A second-generation native Arizonan, Kayce was born to deaf parents and grew up on a dairy farm. Living on a farm as a kid can be fun, but it can be lonely, too. So she learned to dream, to imagine, to pretend—something she's never grown out of. Kayce still lives in rural Arizona with her horse and dogs, including a nut-job named Riley whose claim to fame is having eaten an entire rattan chair in one afternoon.
So let Kayce introduce you to her world of "Chick Lit in Cowgirl Boots" and seriously dysfunctional families. After all, what would a good story be without a little magic, or a crazy or two? That's what makes the world go round—right?
Katie’s Rock by Kayce Lassiter was an amazing book. I stayed up all night reading when I should have been sleeping. This book had everything you want in a really good western romance. It had a big loving family, lots of friends, twists and turns where you had no idea what was going to happen next. It had romance and misunderstandings. But really it was all about love and relationships. The ending was amazing and you would have never guessed what happened. This author is very talented! I plan to read all her books.
Didn’t enjoy the book at all. I wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re okay with two brothers basically sharing a woman, meanwhile said woman is in love with both of them?? Honestly hard to stomach reading about the brothers both being with the same woman. There’s certain lines that never should be crossed, especially brothers sleeping with the same woman and then for one of them to actually end up marrying her. Just disgusting.
What a heartwarming romace, Katie did deserve her second chance in finding love. The story held me gripped throughout so much so I didn’t want to stop reading it. Highly recommend for all who belive in scond chances and in true love.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
KATIE’S ROCK is a beautiful tapestry woven with love and precision. Author Kayce Lassiter brings her characters to life with her passionate and witty verbiage. Readers will follow Katie as life pulls her into some unexpected places. When Katie is faced with the difficult decision of choosing between two brothers, will the best man win her affections?
Single mom, Katie Shaffer works as a bartender at her local pub. It is there that she meets the McAllister brothers, David and Jake. Both men take an interest in Katie, but it is Jake who captures her heart. Jake is newly divorced and he is having a hard time coming to terms with the split of his family. While he cares deeply for Katie, he is having difficulty making a commitment.
One of the best things about Jake is his family. His mother falls in love with Katie and wants to call her daughter-in-law. Jake has a son that hits it off with Katie’s son as well. Katie and his brother David share a special camaraderie that Jake is often jealous of. When Jake’s ex-wife comes back into the picture, she threatens to tear Jake and Katie apart. Do Jake and Katie have what if takes to find lasting happiness together?
If you like Contemporary Cowgirl Fiction, you are going to love Katie's Rock by Kayce Lassiter. This story has Katie trying decide between two hunky brothers, Jake and David. But it is far more than the romance between Katie and her suitors. This story is about family, about trusting one’s instincts and decisions, about one’s priorities in life and about taking a risk with your heart. It proves that only by risking everything can one gain everything and that there is life after heartache.
I love every theme that runs through this book because each is brought forth by characters who are human. They have their contemporary foibles, every day occupations, are down to earth, and easy to like. There is no real villain and no real hero, just people. I was a bit envious of Katie that she got to join the MacAllister family because these people became so real, I wanted to sit down and have dinner with them, or go for a horseback ride with them.
This was a great read and I highly recommend it for those who are looking for a little reality with a happily ever after.
Ms. Lassiter has outdone herself in giving us Katie’s Rock. I truly enjoyed this story. With a cast of unforgettable characters, humor and heartbreak abound and the ending is uniquely satisfying. I admit to shedding a tear or two, but I laughed as well. Katie is torn between the McAllister brothers – Jake and David. Both are knock your socks off gorgeous, both put Katie through her paces, but all is not paradise. Jake, too, is torn--between loving Katie and doing what’s best for his children. Sometimes, the hardest decisions are the right ones. Fortunately, Katie chooses wisely and ends up with the best brother. I look forward to more enjoyable contemporary cowgirl fiction from Ms. Lassiter.
I enjoyed this book so much! The romance was not a standard guy on rebound finds new woman to love. It was a much more interesting and surprising tale. I really enjoyed the fact it did not go in the direction I expected it to. So read this tale of Jake, Katie and David---and see what happens!
