They say that if you die alone, your pets will eventually begin to eat you. But what if you aren't dead yet? Arnold is a loner who one day wakes to find he is paralyzed. Confined to his bed helpless and alone, he has no family or friends to miss him... nobody to suspect he might be in trouble. All he has are his seven cats, and they are getting hungrier by the day... Mandy White lives on Vancouver Island. She may often be found lurking in the forest, daydreaming dark thoughts that inevitably come to life in print.
Her work often features Canadian characters and locations; she delights in twisting her everyday surroundings into weird and disturbing tales. Caution: if you happen to cross her path, you may find yourself in an upcoming story.
At first I wasn’t thrilled with the story, the opening pages putting focus on the most mundane of things, but once the story got going, boy howdy did it get going. Suffice to say, not for people with weak stomachs.
I'm really starting to enjoy the novelettes because of stories like this one. Gross and funny all at the same time but it also made me feel weird for cheering for a cat at the end. Highly recommend this one!
This book interested me at first when I read the summary.I love cats and reading what they could do to their owners if hungry what they might do .I quick read well written .actually some parts are funny I thought in a way.definitely going to read more from this author
Excellent short. Witty and nasty... first time I've used those words together, but it works. Well written, and a quick read that I'd recommend to lovers of horror.
Arnold lives on his own with his seven cats. One day while eating his "fart fuel" (beans and franks dinner), he loses control of his hand, sending his coffee spilling all over him. As time progresses, Arnold continues to ignore the signs that he's in need of medical attention. Before long, he finds himself confined to his bed, unable to move. Seven cats used to daily meals and fresh water soon grow tired of waiting for dinner to be served. What a cat-astrophe!
Such an exceptional story! I read this novelette in one sitting--completely immersed in the story. The writing is very good, with equal amounts of humor and gore. Visually descriptive, I could practically see what poor Arnold had been reduced to.
Very imaginative and highly entertaining, I recommend this tasty tidbit and will be following the very talented Mandy White.
