OK, so I still can't make much of a sound on the flute. I think the instrument has too many keys; it's shaped weirdly (only because I'm more comfortable with keyboard and stringed instruments); and any slight movement of any part of me causes the already bad sounds I'm making to pretty much become non-existent.
This isn't the fault of this terrific book, though. I loved the clear fingering charts, and once I started looking at them in hard-copy Braille rather than digital form on a single-line Braille display, they made even more sense.
I also loved the minimum of text. The book is heavily concentrated toward playing actual melodies, on the premise that the reader will work with a teacher to get information on proper technique. So far, I haven't gotten far enough to think I'm going to go to a teacher. I inherited an excellent flute from a friend. I'm glad she's not around to hear the miserable noises I'm making with it.
