Caitlyn Breauck just turned sixteen, but there is nothing sweet about it.
Her mother, Robyn, mysteriously disappeared fourteen months ago. The local police determined she left of her own free will, but Caitlyn doesn’t buy it. To make matters worse, her father is planning to remarry, and Caitlyn is heartbroken.
When she finds a flyer at school for a private detective named Anonymous Unknown, her desperation wins out, and she decides to hire him. Despite serious doubts about this nerdy boy who conducts his business from the inside of a janitor’s closet, she puts her faith in him. Anonymous is the only one who seems to believe her, and better yet, he is willing to help.
Things go off the deep end when Anonymous claims he has located a witness to Robyn’s disappearance. Caitlyn is shocked to learn that the witness is none other than her pet fish, Bubbles!
With this newfound knowledge, Anonymous persuades Caitlyn to fly with him to California. There, they will meet a veterinarian who claims to have invented a pill that allows people to communicate with their pets. He believes that if they can talk to Bubbles, they have a shot at finding Caitlin’s mother.
But powerful people want these pills, and for nefarious reasons! It’s up to Detective Anonymous and Caitlyn to stop world governments and their rogue leaders from obtaining the pills, all while solving the curious case of mom-napping that brought them together in the first place.
