A POWERFUL CHRONICLE OF A TIME WHEN CITIZENS WENT UP AGAINST THE STATE IN PEACEFUL PROTEST A collection of poems that document and reveal the distress of a citizenry that pushed back against the state, often with grave consequences. These poems of protest and celebration are an ode to the courage and determination of individuals who remained committed to the cause of constitutional democracy.
About the Author
The pseudonymous poet Hamraaz writes poems about the dark times.
Urgent and necessary. Chronicling the state of affairs in India between 2019-2022. A protest against fascism. And a celebration of the brave individuals who put their lives on the line to stand for constitutional democracy.
A brave attempt at capturing the political turmoil in India. This collection largely focuses on political prisoners, the CAA NRC protests, the pandemic, student protests, hope and despair. Beautifully captured 2019-2022 in India. The poems fluctuate and merge between deeply personal and political. Simple, direct and powerful writing. The poems are also very visual, placing you in the shoes of the narrator, who also writes beautifully about Delhi. However, themes feel repetitive after a point. There is a lot of poetry about Umar Khalid, which although important, seemed redundant after a point, considering it's a collection.
So often we talk about the revolutionary poets of the past who had the guts to speak about the political and social issues of their time. I think Hamraaz is among those put who'll be considered revolutionary and celebrated maybe a decade or two from here. He talks about things we have all seen and observed and can't put them in words maybe because we lack the articulation or in most cases the courage.
