A forgotten life.

A secret passed through generations.

A dangerous immortal with nothing to lose.

Joan Sanders is on track for a bright future at NASA, but a strange accident and even stranger dreams draw her to the Cardozas, three mysterious siblings with a charming coffee shop, a dark past, and an uncanny knack for knowing things they shouldn't.

As Joan grows closer to the Cardozas (especially the grumpy, yet charming, older brother), she's thrown into a world of secrets and magic that challenge everything she believes. And she realizes she may have more in common with them than she thought.

While Joan and the Cardozas race to unravel a centuries-old secret that could destroy time itself, an ancient, heartbroken drifter lurks on the edges of their lives, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

And he may know more about Joan's past than she does.

In this mesmerizing first installment of the Keepers of Time trilogy, M. N. Kinch weaves a magical story of romance and found family, with unforgettable characters you'll love from the very first page.

Thank you NetGalley and Xpresso Book Tours for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

Keepers of Time follows Joan, a grad student at MIT, who crosses paths with the Cardoza siblings - Thiago, Luna and Gabby - who work at their family owned cafe. The Cardozas have a dark family history tangled in secrets and generational burdens, which they must uncover in order to protect each other and time itself.

The plot feels very unique. The storyline has a lot of potential and I am intrigued to see how it will play out over the course of the series. This first book has set up a great plotline for the series but more could have been explored in this first book. The pacing of the story is not the best - the beginning (first 40%) is way too slow and could have been shortened. Moreover, the writing could have been better. Most of the writing is fine but then there are internal monologue lines or descriptions sprinkled in that read so awkwardly and break you out of the story.

The characters are interesting and play well off each other. Joan is particularly a great female lead. However, the characters are not fully formed - even though the chapters are written from multiple POV, you can't really distinguish a difference in tone of voice/style between the POVs. The relationships between characters is also a bit rushed - in particular, the romance subplot here feels half baked and a bit awkward as it feels forced. The chemistry doesn't seem to be there.

Overall, I found myself intrigued by the idea of this book but disappointed by its execution.

WOW!!!
What a freaking journey!!, i mean where do i even start with this one, we meer the very charming joan, as she prepares for her internship at NASA, when an unfortunate accident happens and she gets saved by thiago, a cozy coffee shop owner and baker.
The different POV's were amazing, they all felt natural and like actual different people, the writing was smooth and intriguing,
The plot thou was a *chef's kiss*
There were a few things that bothered me while reading; (joan and thiago's enmity that i just did not understand, the jump between timeframes) but when i got to the meat of the story those feelings simply dissipated.
The magic system was astounding ! I mean between psychic abilities, time travel, and a very unique clock tower that withholds the past, present and future of all of earth...how can i not love it!
The very few negatives i can think of are
The relationship between joan and thiago felt a little forced at first
Around the middle of the book it got a little slow
However a few chapter later on it picked up the pace wonderfully and wrapped it all up in a very heart wrenching cliff hanger
This was a truly amazing journey and i cannot wait to get back in this urban fantasy universe

I enjoyed reading this story. I found it unique and interesting. Overall, I enjoyed my reading experience. A book that explores the intricacies of time draws me in and the key concepts behind this one were no exception. A moving clock that can be in any location at any time that is breaking down threatening entire existence? How could I not be compelled to learn more and remain engaged throughout. I enjoyed the characters and the romance with in. I did feel genuine connections being built. I found the story easy enough to follow with well timed reveals. I look forward to the next instalment.

🌟🌟🌟🌟

(Out may 27th)

Thanks to netgalley for the arc
If you love fantasy set in modern day, multiple povs and found family then this is a book for you ✨

The plot, the pacing, the characters, the romance, all of it absolutely hit the mark and I was so invested in every single pov and loved all of the characters (gabby was probably my fave, what a gem 💎). I loved the fantasy/time travel elements though it would’ve been nice to understand Joan’s powers more as it felt a bit rushed how she started using them.

Definitely a fantastic start to a series and I’m excited to see how the next one plays out, especially after how this ended 😭😭

A fantasy romance and so much more is this extremely well written novel by M.N. Kinch. I was left literally speechless at the end of this book, which is the first in a series of three.

It all begins in a very unspectacularly way. The female main character, Joan is a promising student at MIT who is trying to get a summer internship at NASA, but then very slowly things starts to happen in other ways than predictable. The first sign is, when Joan meets two sisters Gabby and Luna, who both seem to be acting weird and are working at the Clockwork Café, where Joan is currently sitting with her laptop and tries to complete her final version of a project presentation that will be part of the application process and meeting with the NASA people she will have the following day.

She leaves the cafe being the last guest and as soon as she is outside, suddenly a car appears on the street and is swerving out of the drivers control toward her. At the very last second Joan is saved by Thiago, baker at the café and brother of Gabby and Luna. Everything happens extremely fast, so that it’s not really explainable as only a quick reaction by her rescuer. Joan is admitted to the hospital because of a broken wrist and therefore is not in her best form the following day at uni. During the important meeting she suddenly stops speaking about her project regarding space travels, because she has a vision of her mother. Something that never happened before.

After all, she has an exhausting semester behind her und and just escaped death the day before. But because of her getting silent during the meeting she doesn’t get the internship she was hoping for. She returns to the cafe more often now and within a short time, she and the three siblings are getting to know and like each other better and Joan finally starts working a summer job at the cafe. Still, some more strange things happen, which could be by chance, but maybe not…

The story is written out of the alternating POVs of Joan, Gabby, Luna and Thiago.

After the story continues to unfold and Joan, and the reader too, have learned more about the past of the siblings, a new important character appears (after more than a third of the story is told) and begins to tell fragments of their own story, and that, as it turns out to be, is connected to the past of the others and there might also be a connection in the future.

I won’t tell more about the plot here, but I was really captivated by the excellent storytelling of N.M. Kinch, even if there are a few patterns known from other books or films (for example regarding matters of time or children hiding in a wardrobe), but the story is strong and never felt „old“ to me. I always wanted to learn more about what would happen in the next chapter and about backgrounds and coherences.

Unfortunately the book ends with a cliff hanger and the other books are not ready to be published yet. But I am sure, the wait will be worth the while!

I recommend this book for readers who enjoy to immerse themselves in an amazing story with a side of suspense, a side of romance and also like thinking a bit deeper about time theories. I wouldn’t recommend it for people who are uncomfortable reading about violence and death.

I received this book as a free ARC and I leave this review voluntary.

Keepers of Time is a captivating mix of science fiction, fantasy, and suspense, following Joan, a brilliant astrophysics student whose life takes an unexpected turn just before her dream interview at NASA. What begins as a normal day of studying at a quaint family-owned café soon spirals into a reality-defying journey filled with secrets, time manipulation, and a mysterious destiny.

The café is run by three siblings—Thiago, the talented chef, and his sisters, Luna and Gabby. When Joan leaves the café, she barely escapes a tragic accident, saved at the last second by Thiago in a way that seems almost impossible. As she processes her shock, she fails to land her NASA internship and, in an unexpected twist of fate, ends up working at the café. The more time she spends there, the closer she grows to the siblings—especially Thiago, with whom she sparks a deep and growing connection.

But something about Luna and Gabby doesn’t quite add up. As Joan unravels their secrets, she discovers that Gabby has the ability to See the past, while Luna can See the future. Their supernatural abilities lead them to uncover an ancient truth—they are Keepers of Time, guardians of a clock that controls the very essence of time itself. Through Gabby’s visions and connections to a past Seer, they learn that the clock is broken, and its repair is crucial to keeping time flowing. But they aren’t the only ones searching for it. A powerful adversary seeks to stop them, setting the stage for a dangerous battle that could change everything.

With a gripping storyline, intriguing characters, and a perfectly timed cliffhanger, Keepers of Time keeps readers on the edge of their seats, eagerly anticipating the next installment. Fans of time travel, supernatural mysteries, and slow-burn romance will find themselves fully immersed in this unique and thrilling adventure.

Thank you to the author for sharing an ARC of this book with me on NetGalley!!

“Tonight I feel different, like something has ended and something else is beginning.”

“That's when I realize were friends. Me, them, him. We're together in this now, whatever this is.
Connected. This is exactly where I want to be this summer. With this strange man, these three weird siblings, with their quirks and eccentricities and mysteries.”

Wonderful story with an amazing found family trope!! Three siblings and a scientist with a passion for the stars and music. Past, present and future intertwined. A quest to save the world and a Clock Tower that exists beyond time and space. This book grips you from the very beginning. There is no place for hesitation. You need to find out mor, whilst you’re reading. Thiago, Gabby, Luna and Joan will take residence in your heart, making you an able to get them out of it. The found family trope in this book was wonderful and the romance in it, even better. It was all so sweet but also complicated. So exciting but also scary. I couldn’t find the connections until they were shown to me. I had my ideas but I liked the surprises. And the journey to get to knowing more about the three siblings alongside Joan… it was interesting to say the least. Of course the ending made me cry … quite a bit to be honest!!! But the plot twist and the cliffhanger … they definitely left me desperately wishing for more !!!!

“A star has just exploded to reform into something new.”

“You need to understand, the clock CANNOT stop. It must be fixed, and the Keepers of Time must do it. No one else can.”

Thank you for the ARC!
Honestly the writing feels a bit choppy/robotic? It’s incredibly off putting and kept me from truly getting into the story. It is a fast paced story, almost too fast paced for me. The second chapter being a change of POV with Thi talking about how he’d like to see her again even though they’ve not really spoken and spent 10 seconds together. But thats the impression I got from all main characters, they acted more like they knew one another right away so nothing was taken as “oh thats strange”, it was “that’s normal for them” from characters who shouldn’t know that yet.
I will say I really enjoy Luna, she has so much going on that she doesn’t verbalize. Her cat is also a star of the show and all it is there to be is cute.
I don’t care for Joan and Thiago personally, they don’t seem to have much depth and it was very clear from Chapter One where their story was going. Joan comes across as entitled and a bit rude, she’s nosy and pushes boundaries she hasn’t built a relationship enough to push. Thiago is angry, has the personality of a brick really.
Gabby is okay but her character falls flat when told from other POV’s.
Overall, this book wasn’t for me. The premise is super cool and I had high hopes having read the synopsis. But I really don’t like the two characters the story really focuses on, the writing feeling robotic also didn’t help me get into the story. I know this story will be found by those who are going to love it and thats exciting, sadly I’m just not one of those people.

A cosy read with a slow build-up. With a set-up in a Cafe&Bakery, this book is yummy, and sweet, with rounded characters that stay true to their development.

+: Great introduction to the characters, I already feel as though I know them.. and they are definitely special. A slow build up for the love interests, no love at first sight.

+: Intriguing backstory and plot (- and slow development on that front through the characters getting to know each other)

+: Descriptions linked with food: homey feeling, found family, tantalising.

I like that the characters can be clammy and stressed and not perfect (and not in a battle gory way).

A plausible plot that goes on to expand our comphrension of time and space -

We are introduced to new characters well into the book ; which is a bold and great move. Things pick up a bit, but just enough to keep us on our toes, thicken the plot, keep us guessing. It's still a slow build-up: I wonder where the climax, the star explosion, the crash will be: will it be grandiose or simply snuff out?

Keepers of Time - a suiting title and easy going plot.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. I don't know if the Villain really is a villain and I am here for book 2!

There is some spice and some torture in this book - not much, but enough and described enough to lead the book into a more adult space.

An Enchanting Dance of Creativity and Intrigue

"Keepers of Time" is a mesmerizing and absolutely enthralling Urban Fantasy Romance. It's the first installment in the "Keepers of Time" Trilogy by M. N. Kinch.

This book took me on a refreshing train journey that, page after page, transformed into a wild, yet still enchanting, roller-coaster ride. The endearing characters captured my heart from the very beginning to the end. The storyline, weaving together the most beautiful elements of fantasy, the ups and downs of human relationships, haunting mystery, and a delicious sparkling romance, kept me engaged throughout, almost breathless most of the time.

Last but certainly not least, the artfully handled multiple POVs offered me one of the most refreshing and delightful reading experiences of the year and left me craving for the sequel.

If you're a fan of contemporary fantasy that surprises and delights, this book is a must-read. It's a magical tale that will capture your heart and imagination. Highly recommended for anyone seeking an unforgettable reading adventure.

I extend my sincere appreciation to BookSirens and the author for granting me access to the eARC—I was thoroughly enchanted by the story and I'm eagerly anticipating the sequel.

I really enjoyed this story! Folks who enjoy stories about magic in the modern world will enjoy Keepers of Time, a story set mostly around a cafe in Boston, and four young people who find their lives thrown together by destiny. The author does an excellent job of opening up the plot little by little, giving revelations and twists along the way. The pacing is very well done, and now that I’ve come to the end of the first installment I am glad that I have some answers, but even more questions. I found the characters to be relatable and understandable (there’s nothing worse than a character you want to choke), though imperfect and flawed just the way they should be. There are a few mature scenes in this story and I really like how the author handled them tastefully while still allowing adult readers understand what was taking place. The baddie of the story seems to be an interesting mix of evil and selfish, whilst sometimes remorseful, which makes him more realistic to me. I am looking forward to seeing how the story unfolds in the next installment.

Keepers of Time is the first book in a dark YA romantasy trilogy by M.N. Kinch. Released 7th May 2024, it's 346 pages and is available in paperback and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout.

This is a well written and engaging fantasy told in alternating PoV chapters. It's a bit of a "worlds collide" type plot, with a brainy and driven female grad student becoming involved with a trio of peculiar siblings who run a local coffee shop. There are mysterious, slightly spooky, intertwined fates and the future of time hangs in the balance.

Three and a half stars. Worth a look for fans of romance fantasy, or possibly a buddy read.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Keepers of Time. This book doesn't start as you would expect. No, it will be calm, but built up slowly so that you are well aware of what it is about. The story is well-researched, takes you along and doesn't let you go. You have no choice but to turn page after page. And sometimes cry and scream when something happens that you don't expect. The story of Thiago, Luna, Gabby and Joan. Joan is an outsider, who discovers herself again when she meets the family. Her budding love for Thiago, who has secrets. But Joan also has secrets. We get to know her as a student who thinks clinically, she wants to work for NASA. But this doesn't go as she expected. Together they embark on an adventure to save Time. But the enemy. Arial, getting closer. And just when you think I know how this is going to end, the author provides a twist that you really don't expect. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. If you like time travel, magical abilities, then this is your book. Highly recommend this book. And it is definitely worth the 5 stars

I'm mostly a mood reader and 'bookvibes' are very important to keep me interested, and this book has all the great vibes.
From a cozy coffeehouse/café to a nice (found) family with a protective older brother.

The characters are lovable and all have a very distinct feeling about them. They go through relatable situations, I'm not usually a big fan of multiple points of view, but M.N. Kinch switches at the right times to keep the story flowing forward. Even the antagonists reasons are understandable to a point.

There is a great balance between 'everyday life' and the more magical aspects of the series and characters, which I love in contemporary books.

The story seems really well thought through and there are hints and little tidbits that point to other pieces of the story and it all fits together like the cogs in a clock.

I should've checked the ending, because it's a bit of a cliffhanger and I can't wait for this adventure to continue, I'm really looking forward to how this story will unfold.

First of all, I want to say thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and M.N. Kinch, the author, for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

3.3/5⭐

Through this book, I found out that I had a thing for a story where a character is a rationalist, a scientist, and someone who bases their life on facts. And then BAAAM! A world of magic slapped them on the face.

I’m actually surprised that I enjoyed this book. I love every character. I think it’s possible because of the multiple POVs that I can peek into the minds of every character. The pacing is perfect, and I can say that it’s a book with a story that will catch your interest as soon as you read it.

Final thought: It’s such an easy read, but I didn’t forget all the fun bits and twists. The only thing that still didn’t sit well with me was the romance subplot between the main characters. It just felt rushed, and I didn’t feel enough tension. But overall, I did enjoy it.

Keepers of Time was a riveting read that kept me coming back for more!
The storyline centers around Joan, an MIT student who has aspirations to someday work for NASA. Her life is completely centered around her future career and her NEED to score a prestigious summer internship with NASA, until an accident that triggers an unfortunate series of events changes those plans. Instead of spending the summer crunching number and looking at spreadsheets, she now finds herself serving coffee and working alongside the quirky (and mysterious) Cardoza family.
This book takes you on a journey with Joan while she gets to know, and falls in love with the Cardoza family. She soon finds out that they have special talents that challenge her scientific view of the world.
Written in a way that transports you into their world, this story of time travel, psychic ability, and working against the clock will have you counting the days until the next installment of this series is published!

I’m very torn about this book. On one hand, it’s a great idea - there are people who have special abilities and only they are able to “fix time” and protect the world. On the other, the characters are one dimensional and quite boring, the writing is not great and feels like a wattpad fanfic, the chemistry between characters is nonexistent, the multiple POVs are just a bit too similar to feel like it’s a perspective of more than one person (well, with one exception), and so on…
I couldn’t connect with the characters, who didn’t seem very believable. I couldn’t connect to the story, that seemed to be oddly paced. I didn’t buy into the romance since there has been no chemistry between the couple in question. I really struggled through the Keepers of Time and I am so disappointed that the potential of the story was somehow wasted.

I found this first book enjoyable yet real long. Sometimes it felt redundant in chapters where the characters were contemplating the situation and they did several times throughout the story. I wished the author had eliminate a couple of chapters and moved a little faster. The characters are great and the storyline is intriguing. Readers beware it is a cliff hanger!!!! One item I would have wished for the author is a better edit. There are too many grammatical errors mainly an overuse of colons and semicolons. As a reader once I get into a story and then I’m hit with several of these on a page it breaks my thought and ruins the transition for me. That would have put this at 5 stars with a better edit of errors. If you as a reader can overlook these type of issues you will be caught from the very beginning.

I really really enjoyed this book! I feel like the pacing was great, the characters are really intriguing and loving and the twists and turns are very captivating!

The author does a great job weaving in a variety of emotions and turmoils. They tackle grief, disappointment, sadness, anger and anxiety really well!

Now onto the characters:

They each have their own personalities and traits I enjoy! Luna especially is my favorite. You can just tell there’s so much there we don’t yet know and I can’t wait to find out what it is! Thiago is Mr. Grump and I’m weirdly here for it!

Tropes:

YA/ no smut

He saves her

Family secrets

Journey/quest

Race against time

Grumpy/sunshine romance

Found family

Magical elements

It's rare I love a book so much that I both can't wait to finish and don't want it to end. The characters were well developed and I found myself invested in their stories. The author effectively juggled multiple POVs seamlessly (no small feat, I assure you) while engaging the reader in the storyline. I'd classify this a fantasy with romantic elements. The two are balanced well in my opinion - the fantasy taking center stage and not being overpowered by the romantic subplot.

It checks all the boxes for fantasy - magic system, world building, compelling characters with an epic conflict of good vs evil. The power system is really interesting and familiar enough while still having enough unique elements to be surprising.

I can't wait for the next installment of the series and recommend this book.

This book was so so fun and engaging and just… NEW. I’ve read my fair share of fantasy and it seems like these days it’s just a repeat of the same tropes, the same adventures, the same characters. But this book is a totally different and new concept that is just beginning to unfold. The characters are loveable and mysterious. The plot pacing is fantastic. The world unfolds slowly but in a way that is so engaging. There are some great reveals throughout the book, but the surprise twist at the end just leaves me anxiously waiting for #2!
If you’re looking for some real-world fantasy with action, a really cool bad guy, mysterious callings, magic, and witty characters, and a plot twist, this book is for you.

The book follows MIT student, Joan, as she comes face to face with a near death experience after a night of studying. The experience puts her into the hands of a beautiful family (3 siblings) who owns a cafe. A love blossoms and their journey to save time begins.

Joan is a GEM! Lover of stars and just up my alley. Luna is a DOLL! I wish she did have more chapters to build her character.

This book did move a little slower which caused me to take a longer than I had anticipated. Then the book started to move at a steady pace and I loved it. The descriptive scenes of my book being my favourite parts. This book has no spicy, and was a nice change. There were slight mentions of bedroom action, but nothing in detail. I can’t wait for the next one.

Such a lovely cosy comfy read!
I really enjoyed the unique plotline and 'magic' system, I also love how it's not thrown in your face but subtly reveled as we journey through the story. I'm looking forward to finding out more about it!
I love the 3 siblings, I want to go to the cafe and try the muffins and Gabys lattes!
The slow burn was lovely, not spicy, just lovely!
This book has the ultimate found family feel, so welcoming and warm!
My only issue was the characters could be fleshed out a bit more, Joan especially, I want to know more about her background, what drives her, her family dynamics... etc...
Buuuuuuutttttt there's more books to come to find out, and I know its going to be a fun ride!❤️

Holy cow this book is more and bigger than I ever expected. Joan and Thiago were so different from each other then you add Gabby and of course Luna who knew so much more than they ever expected. Luna saw it all and made her plans. Arial is so flatly evil. He knows who and what he is and still feels like he is entitled to all of everything. This book has twists and turns and so much personal discovery. There is so much growth by all of them. You just know that Joan will not leave them and that NASA is gone from her mind. She is finally living and has friends and someone to love who loves her and there is no way she is giving in to Arial and losing everyone. Can’t wait for book two.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. This was a very interesting read. I was intrigued by the book after reading the blurb. The characters within this book were very intriguing and became very interesting to read about. These characters developed throughout the book very nicely and intriguingly. And as the story developed the characters had many challenges in which they had to face and fight through the story. I enjoyed the many changes which occurred during the book which created more intrigue and more interest in finding out more about what else would occur. The writing style within this book was very gripping. When it comes to the ending of the book gave a very compelling and very interesting end.

The plot was amazing 🤩 I am always a sucker for time travel and magic which this had a ton of both. The magic had so many amazing elements my favorite being the tower that hold past, present, and future. This concept is so unique to me.

I loved the multiple POVs sometimes it doesn’t hit for me but in this book it flowed very well. It also gives a chance to learn more about the characters one on one. I also loved how there is a cafe involved kinda like a cozy headquarters. I can’t wait to read the next book!

Just a few of things that were negative to me. I felt like Joan picked up using her power crazy fast but maybe that’s just me. And a couple of times in the book was a little slow but it didn’t last too long.

I received this book as a free ARC via BookSirens for an honest review.

Perfect for those just venturing into the fantasy realms! Our FMC Joan is new to fantasy as well, so readers get the chance to discover a lot right along with her. Also multiple POV, which helps you understand different people's viewpoints and motivations - it adds a lot of depth to the story without jumping around.

The romantic subplot felt very one-dimensional on the human front, but on the INhuman front, I actually felt a lot more from the characters (iykyk). Looking forward to the next book!

Thank you BookSirens and M. N. Kinch for the opportunity to read this as an ARC - this review is my personal opinion as a book reviewer.

Well wow I loved this book! I finished it in 3 days ( 6 hours) but would have been sooner had I not been exhausted!!

I have only got back into reading since last December & haven’t come across anything quite like this!

I love all the characters & how they all came together, how each & every one of them have great personalities. There are multiple pov’s which I honestly don’t mind as the story was really intriguing no matter which pov it came from. I definitely felt quite a few emotions while reading it, happy, excited, sad, shocked!

I’d definitely recommend this book especially if your into urban fantasy , romance & adventure!

Okay; I really enjoyed this book. I like the teasing subject of time travel. I enjoyed the seers and the visions.
Luna, Gabby and Thiago have been through so much in their lives; but are also resilient and invite Joan into their small circle with an ease that is joyous.
I did not want the book to end; I was well and truly engrossed in the story.
I both appreciate and dislike the lead into the next book - as I do not see a release date for it mentioned.
At this time I can not review on either goodreads or Amazon as the book is not yet available.

Wonderful read. This book is full of twists and turns that kept me on edge and turning the pages. This story is well written. There is mystery along with danger. I loved the characters. My heart ached during parts of the story. And I felt joy and happiness with the friendship and romance. So lots of emotions emerge reading this book. This is my first book by M.N. and won't be the last. I highly recommend this book. I look forward to reading the next book in this series. I will be waiting anxiously. Happy reading everyone
