DNF - read 2 of the 3 books
I love the concept for this series, a group of older members of a society bringing on the next generation. The introduction does warn that the main character (the new one being brought on) circles around her logic, growing and maturing with fits of starting, stopping, and rehashing, and that several readers had commented on this to the author whose concept for the series is to have the mature (over 30) grow into a bad-ass urban fantasy heroine. We are to be there for that journey.
The first book, The Infinity Caverns, was a pedestrian start to the series, establishing the complicated relationship between the four characters, how the magic system works, and dragging in the main character into the new urban-fantasy world.
The second book, Book on the Isle, not a single character is likeable. I did not care if they survived and it took a lot of effort to finish the book. I only finished it because I need a book review of a series for a blog entry in June 2026. After reading this book, especially with how it ends with a toast and extracting a promise from others which the toaster plans to disobey, I have absolutely no interest in reading any further...
Although book three, Rift Angel, looks like the series (7-books long) finally hit its stride.
I don't care. Book 2 ended the series for me.
Stuart Jaffe is an excellent writer and I have enjoyed many of his other series. Not every book or series is for everyone, and this one is very much not for me.
