Fun for Redskins fans, but not too many others.

I guess I should start with a few caveats.

1) I am a huge Redskins fan. I have lived in the Washington area since 1971 and I have have followed the Redskins closely since about 1976. So I am going to be biased when reviewing a book about my favorite sports team

2) I read a lot of books but I rarely read nonfiction ( I can not honestly remember the last nonfiction book I read). The point here is that I have read enough fiction that I think I can give an impartial rating and or review of a novel . . . the same can not be said for nonfiction but I will give it a shot!

3) I follow every Redskins beat reporter on Twitter and I love interacting with them especially during the games. I really do like and respect all of them . . . however @Snide_Remarks ( a.k.a. Rick Snider the author of the book in question) is my favorite. He is among the most responsive, he is very funny and he really is very good at his job. The point here again is that I am a little biased. I personally like the author and that is going to color my review.

All that being said I gave this book the highest rating. If you look over my review and rating history you will see that I have done that very infrequently. I want to be clear that even though I am biased I only give out the highest rating very rarely and I do it very reluctantly. I am trying to be objective as possible but it is hard when reviewing nonfiction! The more interested you are in the subject of the book in question the more you will be interested in the book maybe that goes without saying . . . but you are not likely to purchase or read a book about a sports team who you have no interest in are you? So I think that bias is understandable and probably expected!

As I pointed out above I am not really sure how to rate a work of nonfiction. But I do know good writing when I read it. This is a very well written book. As a point of reference this is the third full length book I have started and finished in the last 6 nights.

As an information geek who has an good memory for facts and stories I am honestly amazed how many of the stories Rick Snider shared in this book I had never heard of in any way shape or form. Again I am not sure how to rate a nonfiction book . . . but surely one of the criteria should be the quality of research done on putting together the book. Now to be clear I think I knew all or part of roughly 70% of the chapters of the book (each chapter is pretty much a single story or fact or thing to do). But honestly that is less than I expected. My point here is that this is in my opinion a very well researched book.

I read this book in three sittings over about 26 hours or so . . . yeah I am an avid reader . . . but this book was very hard for me to put down . . . I expect the same will be true for an other fan!

The writing is great, it is well researched and it is about my favorite sports team what is there not to like? If you are a Redskins fan at any level from casual fan to a die-hard, dyed in the wool, I bleed Burgundy & Gold fan this book is a must have on your bookshelf!
