Trash Daddy

Rate this book
He’s a notorious lapsed money launderer who just wants to avoid his mob-affiliated financial failures by being hammered and entertained by women. She’s a sarcastic delinquent determined to leave the state and her legal troubles behind, that is, if she could just get some money…

On the run from the police, Carmella wants nothing more than to leave the state of Florida. When she finds herself in desperate need of food, safety, and, most importantly, cash, the open window of a used furniture store is an invitation she can't refuse. The lure of an easy payday and the opportunity for a night off the streets is too hard to ignore. But the building isn't as unoccupied as it looks. Caught by the owner Luke Reeves, Carmella is given a choice; work for the shady boss and make a buck, or she can take her chances with the cops.

A few nude photos and a couple of folded twenties later, she's suddenly his lead saleswoman. Maybe Luke isn't as skeezy as he seems. Maybe he's worse. One thing's for certain...the longer she's with him, the more dangerous both their lives become.

Trash Daddy is an adult contemporary dark romance with mature and graphic content. This book ends on a cliffhanger. See the author's linktree or Instagram for a complete list of TWs.

About the author

Jenni Tayla

1 book17 followers
Jenni Tayla has always enjoyed themes that are sexually inappropriate, dark, and occasionally cross over to the extreme. A lover of action-adventure, fantasy, and horror movies, she tends to fall asleep during rom-coms and feel-good flicks. It's arguable that she doesn’t find happiness to be the most compelling emotion. Chronically avoidant, she’s been an avid reality escapist all her life, thanks to being introduced to the Harry Potter Series when she was twelve. But despite being a devourer of stories, she didn’t pick up the pen to write her own until she was thirty-one and then decided to embark on the perilous path of self-publishing. Some would say she only knows how to do things the hard way. She would reply that, technically, her “doing things the hard way” is just her ADD, plus a willful nature, and she didn’t ask for their opinion anyway. When not writing, her day job is as an Environmental Specialist for a Native American Tribe. She and her partner are raising twin daughters and hope that one day, they will strike fear into the hearts of men and earn the title of being terrifying, just like their mom.

Well written and interesting story. A surprising amount of music recommendations came out of this book and I’m not mad about it. I hope there’s a playlist from the author somewhere.

If you have read the blurb then you will already understand there is a lot of dubcon. So if you don’t like it don’t read it. If that is your kind of thing then this is perfect.

Overall I enjoyed this book.

Lost a star because it ends on a cliffhanger and there was some poorly named dick descriptions (but they were at least a conversation starter in bookclub)

Wow! This book is so well-written, and the characters are phenomenally fleshed out… I have such a clear image of who they are, what they look like, how they behave… it’s fantastic. Now, whether I like the characters (I’m looking at you, Luke!) is a different question 😂 But in reality, these are some of the best, most human and relatable (i.e. flawed) characters I’ve ever read.

Carmella is such a strong and likable FMC, who has been through way too much in her young life, and she somehow finds the connection, empathy, and safety she needs in our super pervy MMC, Luke. This man is shamelessly filthy and not what you’d consider classic book boyfriend material (unless you love that Miami Vice look 😉), but he owns who he is and still has a tender heart underneath all the sleaziness.

This book is deliciously spicy and is definitely darker than you might expect, especially the viciousness in the ending. I’m crushed that it’s over and can’t wait for the second book!!

I DNF this book and it has nothing to do with the writing or anything like that. This book was just not for me, I tried to keep reading but I just found no enjoyment in it for me personally. But THAT DOESNT MEAN ITS NOT A GOOD BOOK. It was well written and the characters are interesting!

This book was a good read the first few chapters I was iffy about but the further in I got the more I loved it! If you read this and think of this isn’t for me based on the first few chapters give it a chance and keep reading it get really good! I couldn’t put it down once I got into it I was constantly reading it everywhere I went!

The 1st few chapters of this book, I was seriously questioning if it was for me....the mental image of Bert Reynolds was killing the vibe for me lol! But I pushed through and I am so glad I did.....luke being so pervy, and creepy, but no matter how weird he got, you couldn't help but pick up on the softer side of him, its safe to say I didn't even realise I'd got to the end til I did, the book flew by, its impossible not to fall in love with luke, and its so clear to see why carmella gives into him, I am seriously going to struggle to wait for the next book....cause that ending....cruel in the best way, I am already itching to read the next one!!

I received a free copy of this book and voluntary leaving a review

It took me a while to really get into this book. I didn't get really too interested in this until about 40% in. I almost dnf but found the story too interesting and wanted to see where it would go, was not disappointed!

The writing was good and really enjoyed the characters. This book got DARK at some parts and i ate it right up. I gave it 4 stars just because of how hard it was to get into it at first, as well as ending on a cliff hanger (cannot wait for the 2nd book now).

This book ... Out the gate, is just wow! I won't spoil it for you. You'll either love how it starts off and be excited and hooked on page one or you will be like how most books are by being on the fence about it for the first few pages/chapters depending on the book. In this book Trash Daddy case, unlike most, it's due to shock factor she hit the ground running, where most books like to sweetly build the world. I personally enjoyed let's hit the ground running and build while hooking that line. I really enjoyed the change of pace. Whichever type of reader you are I highly recommend Trash Daddy. If you're one who likes to slowly dip your toe into the deep end you won't be disappointed, just keep on reading. Trash daddy cover to end is very well written, it uses new and innovated imagery instead of your normal words you normal read. A small example is "release the breath I didn't know I was holding" or the words all books use for body parts. I very much enjoyed the change of pace the breaking of rules of writing and the whole plot. Trash Daddy although is spicy it's not just a spice book it's definitely has a must continue reading plot. You have some many great themes mixed in to keep the reader guessing. Jenni Tayla knocked this one out the park. The steam is good the plot is great the writing is extraordinary. It's a easy read, but with such great creativity. So you're not at world building hard level but you're not rereading the same book just different writer either. Front to back as a whole chef kiss. Ohhh! The clif hanger.... boy howdy I'm ready to devour book two 🥺🙏. Thank you so much for book one Jenni, I truly appreciated your writing and characters, and looking forward to reading more of your work!

Received as an ARC in return for my honest review.

💛 Age gap
💛 Boss x Employee
💛 Girl on the run
💛 Forced proximity
💛 Mafia ties

So the first quarter of this book I was dubious, I wasn’t sure if I liked the spoken language style of the characters we were introduced to but gave it the benefit of the doubt as I thought I might be being picky. I’m so glad I did because it really came into its own after that and had me hooked.

I loved Luke’s moustache 🥸

If you’re after something with a story line and characters that are a bit different to the usual stuff we get then this one is definitely for you. Be prepared for that cliff hanger though!!!

"Being with him in the darkness is like being consumed by the ocean. He is the waves and riptides, stealing control of your body and sucking into murky, ceaseless waters. I don't know what's out there underneath his current, but I am curious.

If I had to choose one line from this book to describe the relationship between Luke and Carmella, this would be it. To leave it spoiler free, Carmella is speaking about Luke when she says this, but Luke could honestly say the same about her. They both go into this relationship not knowing each others past, but wanting to know more about each other. They want to learn each others dark and hidden secrets and get through the turmoil together.

Luke is foul-mouthed, crass, and insatiable. Carmella is mysterious, damaged, and unsure about everything but figures it all out nonetheless. They seem like a pair that won't work for anything other than physical chemistry at the start, but as the story goes on, they find something more.

If you enjoy spice, mafia elements, and a plot line that sometimes fluctuates but the spice doesn't - Trash Daddy is definitely a great read for you. It does end on a cliffhanger though, so be prepared for that. I know I definitely can't wait for the second book!

The development of this book is everything. Starting out I was like whoa and the comparison to Burt Reynolds was funny to me. I’m a bit older so I remember him in his prime so that didn’t deter me from reading on. I really enjoyed the development of Carmella and Luke and was not ready for the end, ready for the next book!!!

Took me a bit to really get into this book! The only reason why I give it 4 stars!

I wasn’t a fan of the description of the MMC, Lukes looks! Burt Reynolds look alike is not my thing. He is a very sleezy, but you grow to love him!

Then comes along the MFC, Carmella … sneaking into Lukes Furniture store for a place to sleep and getting caught. She is quite young, but that doesn’t stop Luke from bringing her into his life and wanting to keep her.

The end of the book really captured me and it was over way too quick! I can’t wait for book 2…. I hate cliffhangers and the not knowing!

Trash Daddy is an unexpected, delightfully original book. I love an author who can deftly create a world and characters that stand out from the din. As soon as I read the description, I wanted to read it immediately—and it delivered. The book opens with a bang—literally and figuratively—giving us our first insight into the skeevy, horny, but authentically likable Luke. I was hooked from that point on.

Our main man is barely making do, caught up in the repercussions of his questionable life choices, business associates, and con artist MO. Carmella is running from her own dismal life and gets trapped, for lack of better options, into taking Luke’s deal. Does he want in her pants, and everywhere else? Yes. Does he also have empathy for her plight, after navigating his own similar scenarios in his youth? Also yes. Feelings evolve, although not in the usual romancey way, and trust is nearly impossible between people with so many secrets.

If you’re looking for a traditional romance, this ain’t it. But if you’re into something refreshingly different, Trash Daddy hits on the dark and depraved, provides fleshed-out sex scenes (see what I did there?) with originality, and creative Lukeisms abound, some which will have you rolling, especially since he’s so unapologetically himself. The stakes aren’t very high until final quarter, with a climax (not that kind) that leaves you hanging (yes, off a cliff), and ultimately, I’m not really rooting for this couple. Don’t get me wrong—I’m a Luke fan for life, but Carmella just seems lost and a little too dumb for her own good (then again, she is 19) and Luke is honestly too old and effed up to deserve her. But who am I to judge?

That said, I eagerly await book two, because I need more Luke in my life and want to know what ensues. Thank you, Jenni Tayla, for such a unique story featuring characters that are far from f*cking perfect.

P.S. I’m old enough to appreciate a hot Burt Reynolds reference. If you were around for his early days, he was incredibly sexy and likable.

I’m not going to lie this book is dark. It started off with a dirty bang….quite literally and threw me waaaaay out of my comfort zone. I am no prude but there were parts where I was blushing and making sure no one could read over my shoulder for fear of judgment.

This story center’s around Luke, the mobster and Carmella, the runaway and from the start it is a dodgy relationship. It definitely gets more questionable the further you get into the book. But that’s not to say I didn’t enjoy it because I did. It ends in a crazy cliffhanger and I can’t wait to read the next installment.

I guess we have to remember that not everyone has a stable up-bringing or people to look up to. Most people are just doing the best they can. Was this book rough? Yes, yes it was. Did I love it? Yes, yes I did. At the end of the day Luke’s tactics may have been crass, skeezy and a little dodgy…I mean a lot dodgy but who is to say that’s not how he grew up or what he was exposed to and that’s the standard he is working with as an adult. I saw some personal growth with him while I saw some growing up from Carmella. Are they the two most stable people…probably not but they are helping each other deal with their past trauma and bad decisions and want to be better for each other and in this day and age that’s all we can really hope to do.

Would I recommend this to my friends…probably not because I still need to be able to look them in the eye. Would I recommend this book to anyone else who likes a kink(or two) and a very questionable male main character? That’s a HELL YES!!!

Whoah! Where do I start here
It’s well written, the characters are so believable and human (flawed, imperfect). There is a LOTTA spice- and some complex and uncomfortable themes here and there (though these make the story even more real to me- there is no pretending that either main character is perfect or without major flaw).

If explicit on page spice, harsh language, sexual content, etc is your thing, this is the book for you. If it’s not, I don’t recommend it for you- these aren’t parts you can just skip over, which doesn’t take away from the books overall rating or quality for me.
Read the trigger warnings.

Overview- the book is based in modern America- involves MMC and FMC both imperfect, at different points of their lives on similar paths. Luke, our MMC is involved in the mafia and Carmella our FMC has had an overbearing and abusive string of caregivers that, though an adult, continue to cause her serious grief, possibly putting her at risk for jail time. While trying to escape this doomed life, and while committing some minor crimes, she stumbles into Luke- possibly the only person on the planet who can truly relate to her.
He is immediately taken with her, and he uses his crass and forward advances, overactive sex drive, and unlikely charm to eventually win her over- but this story is complicated and comes with many hurdles- leaving the destiny of their eventual relationship in question.

Story ends in a cliffhanger.

I couldn’t put it down.

Woah! This book is just wow right from the beginning and had me hooked from page one. Most books sweetly and slowly world build, but this book really hit the ground running… The shock factor I felt while reading the first chapter was amazing I definitely wasn’t expecting it to be like that from the start, but I loved it.

From cover to cover this book is just so well written, and is definitely very original in terms of imagery and description of certain scenes. The book is spicy but it wasn’t just a spice book, it had an intriguing plot that made you just keep reading.

Both of the main characters having heartbreaking and troubled backstories. Carmella is such a strong character and definitely deserved better than she got out of life... but luckily Luke was there to help her out ;) I wasn’t sure I was going to like Luke in the beginning, he was quite pervy and creepy, but no matter how weird he got, you just couldn’t help seeing the softer side of him… the side that actually cared. It was impossible not to fall in love with Luke, you could definitely tell why Carmella liked him enough to give in to him.

The tension these books portrayed was absolutely incredible. I’ve never read anything like it. Jenni wrote this book perfectly. I read it in two days because I just could not put it down. I was obsessed from the first page. The characters just stole my heart.

The ending was honestly so cruel… in the best way possible but I’m definitely going to struggle waiting for the second book, because I need to know what happens. Overall this book was definitely a 5 star read from start to finish, I recommend it to anyone who loves dark romance.

Luke and Carmella have a not so meet cute as Carmella breaks into his furniture store in the middle of the night and quickly ends up working for Luke in his store during the day and letting him pay for extras on the side 😉
Carmella is young, on the run and according to Luke “Trailer park hot”, she’s been through the wringer losing her parents and being raised by foster families and an abusive aunt.
Lucas or Luke as he now goes by due to all those lawsuits from all his questionable misdeeds that have finally come to bite him in the butt whilst looking like Burt Reynolds from Smokey and the bandit with shorter hair and the mouth of a deviant. He is rude, crude and by the end so goddamn loveable in all his skeezy, unapologetic glory.
The book starts with a bang and throws us straight into the seedier, gritty side of Florida. Jenni has created a world with colourful (Lukes outfits 😂), flawed, real and broken characters that are refreshing to read. The description and originality is top tier and the spice 🥵 hot damn is it good!
I thought I’d figured out how the end was going to go down and damn was I wrong in the most brutal, beautiful way that’s going to leave me hanging until the second book!

Carmella is on the run from police and finds herself desperate for cash. When she encounters Luke Reeves at what she thinks is an unoccupied used furniture store, he gives her an opportunity to get off the street, but what she’ll have to do in return might make some women take their chance with the law.

Luke is pure sleaze, a bit unhinged, having made more than a few questionable business decisions, and gives off some pretty pervy vibes. But he also has empathy for Carmella which leads to a non traditional romance, to say the least. Carmella is a bit lost, which at 19 isn’t completely off base, and there are moments when it’s obvious she has no choice but to give in to him. The story is heavy on the dub-con so keep that in mind.

The characters are deeply flawed (which I appreciate) and their pasts make it impossible to have a completely honest relationship. And while Luke isn’t your typical book boyfriend material, he’s easy to fall for when you see his softer side. It’s a very dark and spicy mafia romance with a different and unique vibe. 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒔𝒉 𝑫𝒂𝒅𝒅𝒚 hits the ground running, no slow burn here, and doesn’t let up until the cliffhanger that leaves your mouth wide open!

Thank you Verse Ventures Tours and Jenni Tayla for the ARC.

Now I don’t know how I’m supposed to write this review with no spoilers but here we go.

Listen to me, I went into this thinking by the name it was one thing and it was a hurricane instead. They both are twin flames! Same traumatic child hood he has made some horrible choices and gotten the worst karma for it but in comes our caramel drop through the window like she got delivered to save his bloody soul on a platter!

She’s a bit delusional with her current “relationship” but trash daddy over here knows just how to reel her in…. The mu mu moneyyyyy and that just evolved into so much spice so much shared feelings it’s like finding a puppy and wanting to keep it because it made you remember there are good things in the world.

Just when I thought the plot twist would be a separation because she is on the run for certain reasons miss J over here decides to RUINNNNNN ME WITH THE CLOSING SCENE PLOT TWIST!

We need book two immediately. The girls need trash daddy papi Luke. Beautifully written amazing plot even the smut was smooth like butter.

I am throwing this 5 star at this woman 🤩🤩

Luke - a furniture / appliance store owner - meets Carmella after she tries to break into his store as a homeless runaway. He hires her to work for him and gets more obsessed with her throughout the book- both sexually and tenderly.

The author definitely created some depth in Luke’s character - between the history in the mob, being scorned by previous lovers, and being an absolute puppy dog falling in love. Carmella (Luke’s Caramel Drop) is a broken girl just looking for her place in the world and to feel what love could be like.
You absolutely go on a roller coaster loving and hating Luke, but through the story, Carmella learns a lot about her sexuality and boy is Luke there for it! Things sure get hot and heavy - in a bath house - on a beach - and all over the store’s floor

You are kept wanting more of the story through out the book and bam - the ending happens and leaves you hanging… Talk about leaving the audience wanting more
I will not leave a spoiler - you’ll just have to read for yourself!
Was definitely a quick read once I got into the book and the story starting flowing better

Starting this review off with CHECK THE TRIGGER WARNINGS.
This book does have triggers that could affect some people. As a member of the "no triggers" club, I DEVOURED this dark romance! Jenni had me hooked just with the blurb alone, it sounded like a thrilling romance read with lots of plot twists (it definitely was that)! The storyline was very unique and I loved that this dark romance had that mystery suspense aspect that I ate up with this book!

It was an INSANE ride from start to finish. Luke and Carmella was a great couple together. The age gap and chemistry between them was HOT. The storyline really made this book a great and thrilling read. It's heavy on the dubcon side so if that's not your taste, you probably won't like this. But I loved Jenni's writing with this story! That cliffhanger though was ILLEGALLLLL. I can't wait to see where this story goes in the next book after this! :)

Carmella is homeless and hiding from her past when she tries to sleep one night not on the streets she accidentally runs into the owner of the store she’s just broken into but somehow gets a job and a place to sleep and mildly sexually harassed. Luke, the store owner, at rock bottom living in his store finds some solace in their messed up lives as they spend time together. Even though he is her kinda poor sugar daddy, they start to build something new even with everything crashing down around them.

I had a love hate relationship with this book. I know Lucas is supposed to be crazy skeezy and I didn’t think I would grow to love him but I did. Great characters and good spice. I was just sooo not expecting a cliff hanger there and now I want the rest of it asap. It was kind of slow going at the beginning and then hits you hard with everything all at once. Definitely worth a read if you like your characters multidimensional and a little bit messed up.

This book is a dark romance with an age gap (he is older) trope with some Russian mob ties thrown in and you are left on a cliffhanger!
There are multiple trigger warnings to consider including: Suicidal Ideation, Self-harm, Foster care trauma, explicit sexual content to just name a few. There are more so make sure to read those!
Luke is the MMC who is a bit sleezy/trashy. Carmella is the FMC who is young (18) and homeless who finds herself caught breaking into Luke’s place of business by Luke himself. He ends up offering her a job at this said business. She is on the run and he is trying to lay low.
This book is set in Florida along the coast.
I didn’t think naming each song and artist was necessary throughout the book. Maybe that’s just me but it got a bit overdone in my opinion.
Overall I think this was a great book and honestly can’t wait to read the next one.

A skeevy man and a young woman are thrown together amid mob deals, felony charges, and life-changing realizations. Luke has all but given up after losing everything except his used furniture store. Carmella never had anything to begin with and goes looking for it at Luke’s. Together they navigate bodies, boundaries, the past, and the future.

I went into this book expecting mostly smut and was not disappointed. But there was so much more, more than I probably wanted. The dark pasts of both characters were intriguing, especially in their similarities, and it was fun to keep uncovering more. Although I volleyed between wanting them together and needing them apart, Luke and Camella worked well with each other. I was unprepared for the intensity of the action and the cliffhanger. You bet I’m squirming for more.

This is a story that you don't think you need until you read it. I would put it in the same category as Breaking Bad or Ozark. I begrudgingly loved Luke's character. He's such a skeeze, but he's also a lost little puppy dog that you can't help but want to save. It didn't help that I winded up hearing Evan Peters' voice in my head for all of Luke's lines. Carmella, surprisingly, was extremely relatable, albeit through the eyes of someone who can remember their teen years growing up in a town that has a collective drug problem. Ultimately, this story was a rollercoaster of amusing and sordid affairs. By the end of the book, you will be ready to dive into the next. Even if the characters sometimes give you the ick.

The title literally explains Luke to a T…he is a dirty trashy man who had me cracking up at all the things he referred to his man hood as . Luke falls are and fast for Carmella. Carmella was simply trying to find a warm place for the night but Luke had another idea. Spicy level is over the roof. Carmella and Luke have similar backgrounds of foster care and being unwanted ending up in situations. Carmella aunt has Censorship over her and isn’t good thing she painted a horrible picture of whom Carmella is. The book ends on a cliffhanger of men’s trying to collect Carmella because the aunt has a reward for her return so the monthly checks will keep rolling in from her trust fund I literally screamed no when I read the words to be continued.

I really had a good time reading this story.

The title is aptly named. The first chapter came with a bang, the following couple of chapters I found a little boring but once I got through it the characters had me hooked.

Luke is so different to the typical male characters I read. He is refreshingly honest, I felt very creeped out by his pervyness but towards the end of the book I couldn’t help loving him with all his quirks.

Carmella is one tough FMC. She’s had it rough and doesn’t take any of Luke’s shit. I really did feel for her. I loved how her and Luke blossomed and I did believe in their relationship, regardless of the age gap.

This book was very different and I loved it. Can’t wait for the next one!

OMG! Wow, this book had plenty of Triggers, smut and lots more emotions throughout, the characters Luke and Carmella. I had to laughed a bit at the start of how these two met. It all started with Carmella hidding from the police, she's hungry and tired so she scanned the build and found the bathroom window is open so she entered she was wet so she stripped off her wet clothes. When Luke found her she wasn't exactly dressed so he helped her with some clothing and more. I won't say anymore besides it was good until you get to the cliffhanger because you just want to keep reading.

After reading Part 1... I, like Carmella, want to crawl up inside Luke and stay there!

When starting this book it was hard to think I would have felt this way, my mind is not in the cutter... my mind is the gutter and Luke came across as so sleazy in the start that I was like... is it too much? BUT then, you cant wait for the next sleazy, cheesy, trashy sentence to come out of his mouth. Its his love language and its beautiful. He is the perfect Trash Daddy!

Carmella has really been dealt a shit hand and is doing what she can to keep her head above water, she is young, strong and beautifully broken. My favorite kind of mfc!

If you read books by trigger shopping then add this to your TBR, you will not be disappointed!
Its got all the, goofy, scary thrills, sad moments and filthy times a girl needs to have her heart and body warmed!

Luke is 98% skeevy and 2% in need of a good cuddle.
It took me a little to like Luke enough to want to continue reading, but knowing that his character was 100% accurately
written as he was described he would be kept me going.
He is a complete perve but in desperate need of love too and falls hard with all his heart.
My heart went out to Carmella and to everything she went through in her life, and funnily enough I was happy that the walking red flag known as Luke gave her some feeling of safety.
Love how it ended and looking forward to reading book 2.
4 stars for me, only because Luke was such a pervy horn dog that made my skin crawl

4 stars only because it ended on a cliffhanger. At first I was questioning whether I could finish it or not because I couldn't see how she could redeem how creepy and sleazy the MMC Luke came off BUT she did. You end up loving him (at least I did) for the hidden sweet, protective, empathetic side that shows throughout the book. The FMC Carmella is both feisty and vulnerable, and I can’t wait to see how the second book adds to her character development. Both Luke and Carmella are damaged beyond measure and it shows the hope of finding someone that accepts you without trying to change you.
