Red Hot Chance
Brian “Woody” Woodall has taken a leave of absence from his dream job on Grand Turk to return to Las Vegas, not only to attend his best friend’s engagement party, but to help his sick father he has never gotten along with. Quinn also needs a big favor and asks Woody to volunteer as a blind date for his fiancée’s boss, Daphne Vogel. So I’ve been in a bit of a book slump lately, and I just can’t seem to commit. I have many books for review that I just KNOW I’ll love, but I’m a moody reader, and lately with sleep deprivation from the baby, and barely time to shower, my time for reading is at a premium. Basically, if I’m going to read something right now, I need to know that I’ll love it, or it has to be short enough to read during naptime.
When I was offered Red Hot Chance for review, I was pretty excited! It takes place in my hometown (Las Vegas), and it has a fun premise.
Basically, Woody is back in Vegas for his best bud’s wedding, and his main goal is to get in and get out of Vegas as quickly as possible. He left for a reason, and there’s no love lost for the town.
Daphne is still mourning her fiance’s death from 6 years ago, so the idea of a blind date is thoroughly unappealing, but as a favor to a friend she agrees.
When Daphne and Woody meet at the engagement party, neither realizes that they are each other’s blind date for the next night. Daphne is shocked at how her body is reawakening to Woody’s kisses. And she’s kind of freaked. When he is called inside to give a toast, Daphne bolts.
But you better believe he isn’t going to let her go after that smokin’ kiss.
I liked this. It was short, spicy, and had some depth (in short erotic romances you don’t always get the depth). With a ginger hero, awoman learning to live again, and even a sassy little cat, this was just what I needed.

This is a short novella at 45 pages, but it packed a lot into it’s short length and I quite enjoyed it! It also had a ginger hero … there are not enough ginger heroes in my opinion!
After 6 years of grieving, Daphne is convinced to go on a blind date by her friends to try to get her back into the dating field. The night before her blind date, she runs into Woody at a bar and, completely unaware that he is her date for the following night, she finds herself completely unable to resist her attraction to him. After fooling around with him, she runs away and he has to hunt her down to finish what they started. What results is some VERY hot scenes ..
By giving the heroine such a tragic back story, the author was able to give some emotional depth that sometimes is missing in short stories. I wanted Daphne to find love again, I wanted Woody to stop his playboy ways and I wanted a HFN ending. It was surprising that I cared so much and I was also surprised by how much character development there was. I think the fact that it had been 6 years since Daphne’s fiancee died that I was able to accept both the rapid development of feelings and the way she responded to Woody; it had been one hell of a dry spell and was definitely time for her to move on.
This is a very short, yet very surprising, novella. It is fun, sexy and a little bit angsty. If you are looking for a uber short romantic read, this is one I highly recommend.

I was fortunate to receive a copy of this from the author to read. First things first what I did like. Ms. Grant has a way of making her characters real and engaging. I couldn't help but enjoy each character individually. I did however sometimes feel I was missing something. I think there was a book written before this one that might have been helpful to read before Red Hot Chance...the story was readable but the whole time I had a feeling I missed something.
The only thing I did have a problem with was one of the sensual scenes. The emotions didn't line up, the character went from one end of the emotional spectrum to the other and it threw me out of the story.
For a short read this book is very sexy and the characters will leave you wanting more.

Another freebie that turned out to be a short sexy story.
Daphne lost her fiancee a few years back and is still grieving. Her boss and best friend, who was also her dead fiancée’s best friend, is pushing her to go back on the dating scene so Carly, her coworker, arranges a blind date with Woody, who turns out to be very intense and with some problems of his own.
This book contains very realistic characters, very hot moments and a possessive hero.
A growl erupted from Woody, and he clutched her ass cheeks. "If you ever mention another man while I'm about to go down on you, I'll throw you over my knee and spank you"
Unfortunately is a very short story, and there's no deep development in the story, but still enjoyable.

Erotic short story, with intensity and depth of a full length book.
Characters you feel for, with real problems you can relate to. The vibes between them are instant, sincere, smoldering, and they embrace and relish the attraction between them.
Heat level pretty high, but not gorged with constant sex.
Great ending with hope for a future.
Well written, fresh style, left me with the thought of 'different but great'.
