An excellent book by a gang abatement expert who's worked in locales as diverse as East LA and Native American reservations.

Hernandez outlines the recipe for creating youth likely to join a gang, and hacks away at the mythology surrounding them. He reminds us that gang activity supplants ailing social structures and can only be countered by strong families and communities.

I would recommend reading this in tandem with John McKnight's 'The Careless Society' for a look at how infrastructure needs to be addressed as individual citizens and as a community. http://www.worldhunger.org/articles/b...
