For 25 years France Hunter has been studying owls, and has discovered five new species around the world. Her work has kept her busy and she never had time for a relationship. She travels with Jason “Doc” Bradley, a former paramedic, and his cousins Tony and Andy Bradley. Now, on her last outing she is joined by a magazine writer, Cathy Birch, and a world famous angler, John Sinclair, who has also dedicated his life to his field. As the small caravan travels to the Amazon river France falls and severely injures her left arm. Against Doc's recommendation to turn back, she pushes on. This is her last trip and she wants to go to the place where she found her first new owl. While fishing a blue-ringed owl lands on John's canoe and looks down the river to where France's group is, and then looks back at him. This alerts John. He gets the satellite phone and tries to reach her to no avail. He decides the fishing can wait and, with Mark in another canoe, begin the journey back to France. At France's camp two jaguars attack one of the boatmen severing his left leg. The other two boatmen, they all have rifles, shoot at the jaguars killing one. The other escapes with the boatman's leg. Doc and the others wake to the noise and he and Tony go to where the boatmen are camping. In the ruckus the canoes become untied and go eastward down the shore and the sat phone is destroyed. Now they have no way to get help and will have to wait for John's team to come back, which could take three or four more days. Will help get there in enough time?

'The Angler and the Owl' is an action packed novel, one that I deeply enjoyed reading. Where this story takes place - the Amazon River - is what makes it unique. The danger coming from the nature and the wild life made me turn the pages even quicker.
Thanks to Viv Drewa for sending me an ebook in exchange for an honest review.
"The Angler and the Owl" by Viv Drewa was a lucky surprise find for me. Currently suspecting an owl nesting in my garden I downloaded this book after seeing it advertised temporarily for free on twitter. This short novel is a great adventure story in the excotic location of the Amazon river. Beginning with a traumatic encounter between a bear and an ornitholgist the story introduces the twilight between natur loving exploration of wildlife and the associated dangers. A new expedition into the wildlife includes a few more characters with different agendas which adds even more spice to the story. Great suspense, interesting perspectives and a strong story make this a compelling and fascinating read. I really enjoyed this.
The Angler and the Owl is an adventurous novel with a bit of mystery and romance added into the mix.
France Hunter and her team go on a trip to study a new species of owls. Tagging along for the trip is TV host John Sinclair.
Sparks fly between France and John as the trip continues. However, they’re briefly separated when John and his team set out on a different path to film for his show. While John’s away, trouble looms for France and the rest of the team. An animal attack on a crew member along with no communication to the outside world leaves the team in a perilous situation.
Meanwhile, John can’t help but shake the feeling that something’s wrong. Yet, he’s torn between work and France.
Will John reach France and the team in time before it’s too late?
Overall, I enjoyed the story. I loved how the characters were owl watchers and nature lovers, that’s what made the story for me. The author does a good job of describing the scenery, making you think you’re traveling with the group.
I liked the budding relationship with France and John, they’re two characters who fit well together. The supporting characters of Doc, Tony, and Andy made the story by providing humor as they led the expedition and tried to play matchmaker.
The story offered lots of adventure along with mystery. My only critique is I thought it was too short, I would’ve liked maybe just a few more details added to spruce it up.
WILD RIDE DOWN THE AMAZON Once I started THE ANGLER AND THE OWL, I couldn't put it down. I was drawn into the story and soon found myself canoeing down the Amazon River with a famous ornithologist and her team, meeting danger head on. The well-drawn characters led me on an unforgettable adventure filled with wildlife, mortal injury, and self-realization. This is a quick read that will appeal to any action adventure lover or nature lover. I highly recommend it. Keep writing, Viv Drewa. I want more!
The Angler and the Owl - Review by Martha A. Cheves, Author of: Stir, Laugh, Repeat; Think With Your Taste Buds; A Book and A Dish
France Hunter was excited about her first trip to the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee. Her family planned camping trips here in the past and she just loved it. Now that she graduated from the University of Michigan, with a degree in ornithology, she was more than ready to study her favorite bird: owls. That is until the black bear decided to show up making her trip short in the wilderness and a bit longer in the hospital.
27 years later she finds herself in the Amazon where she is in search of her first new species of owl - the blue-ringed owl. What she didn't expect were the feelings she soon started to feel after meeting John Sinclair who was the host of the television show 'Sinclair's Adventures'. Rounding out the group was Cathy Birch who was gathering information for her latest magazine article.
Author Viv Drewa brings the search for the blue-ringed owl, the dangers of the Amazon and two people who have just met and their feelings for each other. This was a page turner which I actually finished in 2 nights. Very enjoyable.
Review Stir, Laugh, Repeat at Amazon.com Stir, Laugh, Repeat
This book was one riveting Adventure. When France Hunter and her crew head down the Amazon River with a well-known Angler and a magazine Crew looking to do an interview with her is when the adventure really starts. Stranded in the jungle after their canoes float away and their emergency phone is destroyed the crew struggles to survive after an attack by wild animals. Every good story needs to crisis to keep up the momentum and this book does not disappoint! Ms. Drewa has hit a homerun in her first foray in fiction! I give this 5 stars for being the rousing romantic adventure it is.
Follow France Hunter on a trip down the Amazon to look for owls. France has along good friend Doc, who she met years ago along with Andy and Tony Bradley, who saved her from a bear. France meets a lot of new people on the expedition including one who may be a love interest. This book takes the reader away from life for a while and on a journey of friendship, danger and plenty of adventure. The book is a well written story with nature and life explored.
The story was good but could have been longer and much more detailed. The writing was not good. There were words missing and the story jumped from present to past tense in mid paragraph. I was hard for me to read. I liked where the story seemed to be heading in the beginning, so i made myself finish the book. I was disappointed..it could have been such a great story. The author had such a good story line.
