Viktor ist sieben Jahre alt und führt ein ziemlich normales Leben. Er tauscht Sammelsticker, verkleidet sich als seine Lieblingssuperhelden, spielt mit seinen Freunden und geht gern in die Schule. Eines Tages wird er vom Kolibri Cristobal und von der Eidechse Edison aufgesucht und findet sich bald danach mitten in einem jahrtausendealten Krieg zwischen der Liga der Vögel und der Reptilienvereinigung gegen Sola Fide wieder. Dies ist der erste von vier Teilen des fantastisch-skurrilen Entwicklungsromans Betula Pendula, in dem der Protagonist Viktor auf seinem beschwerlichen Lebensweg zwischen den Welten mehr als einmal entscheiden muss, wer zu den Guten und wer zu den Bösen gehört, was Wahrheit ist und was Lüge. Loved this book and waiting on tender hooks for both the English translation (which I hear is coming soon) and the next installment! It is so captivatingly written that you can't help but feel drawn to each character and their plight, doing so with a constant sense of anticipation for what's to come. Like awaiting a storm, Sarah Kassem keeps you on the edge of your seat with a quietness and calm that is both unsettling and intoxicating. When finally the storm does come, boy, what a storm! My final words are: read it, love it, and join me in hoping the next installment comes asap!

Great book for lovers of a series you can sink your teeth into, reflect on childhood, and generally let grow into your everyday fabric of life!
