Oswald Hubbard was between insanity and death by boredom when he left his tenured position at the prestigious Lycaster University. Seeking solace in the cabin of a coworker, he finds much more than trees and spiders to welcome him. Amid a mysterious and out of touch town, mazes of cornfields, and towering trees, is an altar. Could it be that Oswald was summoned here? Or is it merely his eagerness for purpose that's driving him to see things that shouldn't be? A Gathering of Sparrows is a nostalgic story of terror and manipulation accessorized with touches of classic horror and contemporary commentary. This short read is sure to have a lasting effect.
This book felt nostalgic for me, and I'm not sure why. Perhaps it was the voice or the setting that rang of an older era of the horror genre. Definitely a great story, just wish there was more of it, but I guess that's a good thing. It left me wanting more.
