They knew something was wrong when stars vanished from the sky. They knew they were right when the sky fell down.
The Cube came to a frightened Earth from the depths of space. The landing was a disaster: occupying half the planet and killing billions of people. Earth fell into chaos. Societies broke down. Many turned to God for answers.
But what now? Is it friend or foe? Who sent the Cube, and for what purpose? Where and when will it attack next? Will the Cube leave, or will it stay?
Against this bleak backdrop a cast of unsavoury characters is unleashed. A racist serial rapist in China terrorises an innocent woman. A manic drug addicted gang-lord in Moscow fights to preserve his dominance. And a religious fanatic in London with a perverted mind and diabolic ideas works towards reshaping the future.
Ranged against them are reluctant Rick, courageous Martin and autistic genius Thomas, who grapple with unlocking the mysteries of the Cube and perhaps saving mankind. But it is a race against time. And a shocking revelation forces everyone on Earth to choose.
This is a real science fiction novel for real adults. Ophiuchus Cube , book 1 is the first of a 6 book series. The next installment will be published in 2014.
Not my typical type of read, but by the end I was very interested in finding out what would happen next to the inhabitants of the cube and the people left behind.
There’s much to like in this science fiction novel with original concepts and engaging characters We have a near apocalypse with the society breakdown and religious overload that might occur. Two heroes, Rick and Paul, who become unfairly victimized for their observations and announcements, add emotional characterization. Love it when the giant cube lands slowly and just after the newscaster tells of 2 billion deaths, the viewers are treated to the weather report. Haha,of course the forecast is important because of the displaced atmosphere forcing air pressure waves outwards. Nicely done. Like many science fiction series, there's sufficient action and adventure in the Ophiuchus Cube to keep a reader hooked to the end and wanting more. What is there I’d write differently? Perhaps in the way the Chinese authorities are represented by an obnoxious, racist, psychotic, sexual pervert agent when I’d have expected them to be inscrutable and ultra polite. It doesn't get in the way of an entertaining quick read, and you need someone to yell at in books. I particularly love the concept of a continent-sized cubed gently landing on Earth and not communicating to anyone except by actions. In no way spoiling any enjoyment of the story there are aspects of science that nerdy scientific readers will enjoy querying. For example – no, I’m not saying, find out for yourself! I can promise you that the novel is highly entertaining. Next time you look up at the stars and notice one blink out, be very afraid.
