Relics of Mysticus #3
The Dragon's Egg
Sure, the glass castle floating over Evan’s head is a little unsettling, but that’s the least of his worries. With each step inside the Dungeon of Dreadful Dreams, he must battle against his worst nightmares. One after the other, wispy smoke-filled bull sharks come at him — he must remember they’re only illusions pulled from his imagination by those dreaded shadowlike hands. If only the vengeful dragon circling above was also an illusion and didn’t have his mind set on destroying the one person who can control him: Emrys.
Inside the castle’s glass tower, Emrys sleeps in an eternal slumber, and Evan’s uncertain whether he can save the great wizard. Especially now that Emrys’ former student, the Lady of the Lake, has joined forces with the cunning immortal Alamaz. Together they have already stolen the Dragon’s Egg, but their greed doesn’t end there. The Siren’s Pearl calls to them, and that means only one thing … Atlantis is in trouble.
Join Evan, Claire, and Dunkle — along with a few other unlikely heroes — as they travel across the realm of Medieval Legends, float through the Ancient Isle of Avalon, plunge inside the Dungeon of Dreadful Dreams, and be there when Atlantis rises once again.
Geared toward readers of middle grade fantasy.
Perfect for fans of Percy Jackson.

Not only does she write books for the young-at-heart, adventurous sort who yearn to dive into a good young-adult fantasy story, she also writes spellbinding, heart pounding women's fiction. The Dragon's Egg jumps right in to the action as soon as you open the book. Evan, Claire and Dunkle, the imp, are still in Sagaas looking for Alamaz and the missing relics. Everything starts coming together for me in this novel. The main characters, Evan and Claire are learning how to use their powers and spirit totems they gained in previous books. The worlds they encounter fascinated me, Camelot, Avalon, the Otherworld, meeting the Orchestra of the Dead so many worlds and magical beings and creatures. I love traveling through these places, some I've heard of, some I haven't, with Claire, Evan and company and experiencing everything they do. I also appreciate the author's imagination. The way she weaved the story in and out of different folk stories and myths, the fae, The Day of the Dead, and even a back story for how Evan and Claire are even able to enter Sagaas, the world between the Earth and The Land of the Gods. Things take an evil turn at the end of the novel when Evan and Claire find out who Alamaz really is and Ethan is captured. I can only imagine what will happen in the next book THE MUMMY'S AMULET.
I highly recommend this series for lovers of fantasy, middle grade readers and above. Their are budding romances, lots of references to various mythologies, Celtic, Atlantis, Native American, Greek, just to name a few. It's a well written series with various creatures from fae to unicorns to imps. Impressive powers are bestowed upon Claire and Evan, sister and brother and a strong bond is shown between them. Family is important as well as friendships, despite what those friends are, magical beings or animals. It's a really enjoyable series.
I received a copy of this novel from the tour coordinator in exchange for my review. I was not compensated for my review. All opinions expressed are my own.

A review copy was provided for an honest review. The Dragon's Egg continues following the adventures of Evan and Claire across the mythical realms. It's the third novel in the Relics of Mysticus series, and definitely the most exciting installment yet. Middle grade readers will enjoy taking the journey and visiting the different mythology Bolton incorporates.
This time around the siblings dive into Arthurian myth and travel to the world of Medieval Legends. It's here they face off with new foes, encounter faeries, learn more about their totem powers, and search for Emrys (the great wizard Merlin) who is feared to have been captured by The Lady of the Lake who seems to be in cahoots with Alamaz. It's again left up to Evan, Claire, and their impish sidekick Dunkle to locate the dragon's egg relic so that they can restore order to the realms.
As a lover of Arthurian legend I was really happy with how the author wove the lore into the story. Each medieval reference had me wishing for more. Every Relics of Mysticus novel improves upon the last with the siblings maturing, more built-in history, world expansion, and fun adventures. We're even given a huge secret reveal that ties into how Claire and Evan can enter Sagaas which gives us something to look forward to in the future. By the last page you're left hooked for the next.
The Dragon's Egg is an exciting fantasy young adult read. It has a great balance of action and magic that'll keep readers coming back for more. Bolton spins myth in a really fun way. This series has been a pleasure to read and I'm eager to see where she takes these heroic characters in The Mummy's Amulet!

I really liked this book I think maybe better than the other 2 in the series :) Perhaps because I am sooo into Medieval times and mythology and this book was chock-full of adventure in this theme! The kids along with Chacon travel through Avalon and many other worlds to yet again save Sagaas from ruin.
This book also has a bit of love running through it as Claire finds more than just a friend in Chacon. This does not seem like the greatest idea to Evan, but he is being sidetracked by his own problem - his dreams are becoming more real and bothersome.
All in all this whole series so far is amazing and I can definitely see it becoming HUGE in the Young Adult genre! No need to worry about your kids reading this, it is all clean themes and amazing adventures in fantastical worlds :) Once again 5 stars! Loved it!

I am warning you that I must be mysterious in this review, lest I give away too many details and spoil the whole kit and caboodle.
Evan and Claire are still in Sagaas, and they need to traverse into the realm of Avalon. Alamaz has escaped from the Dungeon of Dreadful Dreams and has enlisted Emrys’s (or known by Merlin to most) student, the Lady of the Lake, in his struggle for power. The Dragon’s Egg has gone missing, and Alamaz now controls the dangerous and deadly dragon Thrakon. Unfortunately for Evan, Claire and Dunkle, Tom Thumb, guardian of the portal into Avalon, is very picky in admitting passage. Chatyon reappears from book two, but Tom Thumb is adamant about not allowing him into Avalon.
King Gwyn ap Nudd, the King of the Fae, aids the much-revered Dunkle in their upcoming journey. Did I mention that Emrys (ahem, Merlin) must also be found? Gwyn gives the Band of Unlikely Heroes a couple of treasures to the Fae, extremely valuable items that are offered unexpectedly.
Evan and Claire must go through the Dungeon of Dreadful Dreams, and it is a difficult thing to do. They see illusions that could easily sidetrack and scare them, and they must go on. For Evan it is an even more difficult journey because he is not allowed to change into his dragon form, his totem. Along the way they pick up a couple other characters, both who end up surprising me, and one who ended up abandoning the group. I suspected the wrong character, in that particular case. However, like Amadaeya did in book two, this character also redeems himself later, and just might be the reason Dunkle is revived.
Along the way, Evan and Claire learn that Dunkle has had a sibling pair of apprentices before, and one of those is someone near and dear to their hearts. Throughout the journey they continue to get tidbits about this person’s time in Sagaas, and come to realize Dunkle is keeping some major information from them – vital information, it turns out. Again in this book there are many instances of seduction, and in one event Evan actually hurts Claire. Yikes!
At one point, I thought they were all gonners. I did not see a viable solution to their predicament. Alamaz, of course, takes that opportunity to pull the psychological “Now that I have you down, I will take up all this time telling you my evil plan” – sort of. Then, he forces Evan’s hand, and Evan changes into his totem. It’s all downhill for the Band of Unlikely Heroes from there.
I LOVED this book. It pits Evan and Claire against Dunkle in the most hurtful way, and they perservere and refuse to believe anything but the best about him. To go in hand with that, when all seems lost for poor Dunkle, the pair shows genuine emotion and love for this small creature who can sometimes smell like rotten eggs.
For a time, this book dragged in the middle. I think Bolton was setting up her footwork for the ending and the next book, but again this book seemed a slight wild goose chase, but not quite like the last book (in which the Trickster actually reveals that indeed it was).
Despite that, I cannot wait to get the fourth book. I know it will be packed with even more adventure and the mysterious someone I cannot reveal to you that Evan and Claire know, well, I think that person will show up in the fourth book and I am looking forward to it in more ways that I can reveal.

The Dragon’s Egg is the third installment of H.B. Bolton’s Relics of Mysticus and continues Evan and Claire’s search for Alamaz and the missing relics. This series is wonderful for young readers, the characters are funny and easy to follow, the plot is full of adventure and mishaps, and the overall story leaves just enough for you to want to read more and more about it.
In this book the kids are with Dunkle voyaging to find Merlin and the Dragon Egg in Avalon / The Dungeon of Dreadful Dreams. I love that this story is set in a medieval kingdom and the legends surrounding it. The little tidbits of information about Merlin and the dragon and the Lady of the Lake are wonderful additions to the story. I also loved the involvement of the faeries in this realm (I love faeries!).
Each book in this series gets better and better. The kids are coming into their own having defeated the Trickster in book 2 and learning more about themselves. And in this book, they are beginning to learn even most about their family (I am going to leave out the amazing spoilers! – you must read to find out!).
Another wonderful Realm built for the setting, another wonderful adventure for kids. I really enjoyed this book and will continue to re/read the series.

I had the opportunity to read all three books in the Relics of Mysticus series by H.B. Bolton. This is a fun, adventure series targeted towards middle school aged children, but, with an adventure and a quest like the one they embark upon and the fantasy of what they are learning, should appeal to all ages. If you enjoyed the subtle learning and fun adventure of the kids in Fablehaven by Brandon Mull, you will love this series! It takes you from mythology to mythology with a pair of siblings who will make you smile as you witness their interactions and maturation.
THE DRAGON'S EGG:
Ahhh, from Asgard to Native American mythology to Avalon! This series grew and grew, with more action, more development, the kids coming into their own as they embark on another adventure, and it was quite fast paced! I hesitate to say more as I don't want any spoilers, but I definitely would recommend this series as one to read with your child or to read on your own for a light escape into well known myths and fantasies.

"Doesn't this guy realize we're on an important quest?"
The Good
The characters were amazing, from the unicorn, to the faerie, to the wizard. They were all fantastic. The villain was really cool and he had an interesting background. The story was great too. Somehow nothing EVER seems to go right for Evan, and it's very entertaining. I loved the cliff-hanger ending. It makes me hungry for more.
The Bad
I still really miss Lazonia from The Serpent's Ring, but that's it. Bolton please bring her back for me.
Conclusion
There was an amazing villain, amazing characters, an amazing story. Overall it was an AMAZING book. Too many amazings? Ah well, insert your appropriate synonym where needed.
*Author provided the book for an honest review during a blog tour. Review originally posted at JC's Book Haven by my son Zane who is 11 and given 4.5 stars.

The Dragon's Egg by H.B. Bolton is the third book in the Relics of Mysticus series and it continues in the fast paced, high adventure style of the first two books. I could not put the book down when I started reading it.
The author is a great storyteller and has developed a tale which is both realistic and easy to follow. It will never let you catch your breath. Just when you think you got it another plot twist occurs and off you go again.
I really like H.B. Bolton's characters. They are very real to life and easy to identify with. I found myself caught up in the story and following along with our heroes while cheering them on.
I really like The Dragon's Egg by H.B. Bolton and I highly recommend this book to all ages.
[Please note: I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.]

This is the best book of the series so far. It's exciting and action-packed from the get-go (but not too exciting for the little ones who may be reading it). I won't rehash what it's about, since you can learn that by reading the description, but I will say that fans of this series won't be disappointed. I especially like that we get to see more into Evan and Claire's family life ... as well as Dunkle's! I can't wait to see what Bolton has in store for us with the final two books of the series, as we reluctantly bid farewell to Evan and Claire.

This series just keeps getting better and better. The Characters have developed and grown on me. I simply love the different Realms of Sagaas; they are all so unique and wonderful in their own right. The ending was epic! It was also a cliffhanger.....when is the fourth book being released? *Sigh* The wait is going to be torturous, I just know it.

In Sagaas, pressing onward to the land of Avalon, Evan and Claire search for a missing relic. Trickery is all around them as they venture through the Dungeon of Dreadful Dreams that are growing more actual and worrisome. Will they find the Dragon Egg? This tale is about an enchanted realm filled with allures, fairies, and folklores, including, Merlin, the Lady of the Lake, and a dragon. There is also chemistry between Claire and Chacon. Something I love in fantasy stories. Book 3 in the ‘Relics of Mystic’ series and all 3 books have beautiful covers and illustrations throughout. I have to say it is an astounding journey. H.B Bolton has outdone herself in creating her fantastic mysterious kingdom.
