Rascal: A Meowmoir

Rascal has had enough drama to last nine lives.

Claire and Brigitte Noble team up to bring you the story of Rascal the cat.

He was born in the countryside surrounding Hong Kong. Unfortunately, he was born with damaged eyes. A blind cat would have a difficult time in the wild, so Rascal moved into an apartment with his forever family. Two years later, the family moved to Switzerland. Mostly, Rascal prefers to take it easy. Read about the times when taking it easy was not an option.

I enjoyed the story of Rascal. I thought it was cute and charming in many ways. I liked the introduction of different cultures with Rascal being found in China and later the move to Europe - it seemed to be done in a way that made the story interesting but probably not too difficult for a child.

I wasn't keen on the title use of "Meowmoir" because to me it just seems awkward - sounds wrong in my head. Not sure if mangling the word memoir is good for a kids understanding or not. Maybe a subtitle of something like "A cat's tale" or something more specific to Rascal's story would be better.

I did feel like the ending petered out just a bit - like it needed something more for the end.

But overall cute and charming. The pictures were a lot of fun.
