This is a book of connected stories about old times on the Allegheny Mountains. They are unified because of certain families who are met with all these tales. These families were close friends of Father Gallitzin; they held his memory in reverence and talked of him to their children and their children's children. A brief story of Prince Gallitzin is included. He is a tradition on the Alleghenies. He was father and leader of the pioneers and their descendants. Special interest is given to these stories in the fact that they are true. The characters are real people, some of whose descendants are still living and who agreed that their ancestors and relatives names could be used by the authors. There are a few fictitious names given to characters who have no relatives now known on the mountains. --- from book's Preface
