This is one of those break-the-mold books. It is not a good read-aloud; it's meant more to inspire games of wordplay at the dinner table, I think.

It didn't fulfill my purpose of reading a bedtime story to my young son, but if you want to spark some silly conversation at mealtimes, it might do the job.

It's like Paul Simon's song, "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover." Only for kids. And with more food references.

Basically, in this reader, the formula for these sentences pairs the name of a certain kind of food with the name of a person.

The following examples come from this book except for one line from Paul Simon:

Pass the spaghetti, Betty.
Lasagne Tanya.
Set yourself free, Lee

Whimsical illustrations add to the fun of this delightful book, this FIVE STAR book.

Honestly, I didn't buy this for Alena. I bought it because they don't have it in our local library system and I have liked other Jeff Fisher books. I like this one too, though it's not my favorite. It's sort of a rhyming alphabet book. It takes a little effort to match up the names with the rhyming food.
