I was born with less than a one percent chance of survival. No doctor thought I would make it. One was brave enough to take a shot. Two open-heart surgeries later and here I am. Living so close to death, I’ve always wanted be sure of my purpose. I wanted to leave nothing behind when my time was up. I wanted no dream to be trapped within my grave.

It didn’t take long for me to understand my purpose, my dream. I was a storyteller. I wanted to write and I wanted to share my stories with people. All the way at the edge of my memory I can recall playing narratives out in front of the family camera. Growing up, my best friend and I made hundreds of films. Every weekend was a new story to tell.

I love narrative and I believe strongly in its power. Narrative has inspired me and helped me become a better man. It is my hope that my work inspires the next man or woman behind me to pick up the pen and give their dream a shot. You never know when the reaper is going to come knocking.

Luke’s third novel showcases a fundamental shift in him as a writer, and I believe, lays the foundation for an impactful body of work that is yet to come.

While this book maintains the great action and beautiful prose that characterized his first two works, I was most struck by the weightiness of the message it carries. I watched a video of Luke describing his experience coming to the Lord between his second and third books, and it’s blatantly obvious to me that now, beyond being a writer capable of sharing a good story, he’s also a writer carrying a truly meaningful message. There’s wisdom and insight in this book that I know could not have happened without the personal growth and transformation he has experienced in recent years. He’s grown his own character and so he is more able than ever to WRITE a compelling character. Add to that the fact that this book is FULL of Louis L’amour easter eggs, and you’ve got the makings of something awesome!

So, is L.S. Goozdich the next coming of Louis L’amour? I think we’ll just have to wait and see.
But I’ll tell you this, I’m going to be watching him “real close like”…

Great work brother!

Favorite Quote: “Everyone has it figured hunting is about killing. It’s about getting some trophy, winning some game. Really, the best a hunt has to offer is right here, in the silence. Settling that crosshair means settling your spirit. It’s about knowing why you’re taking a shot and being sure of it. There’s a communion between man and nature that transcends the mere act of pulling a trigger. It’s a connection to our primal past, a recognition of the weight carried by every hunter who has walked this path before us. You’re not just holding a gun, you’re shouldering a legacy, a responsibility passed down through generations. When you pull that trigger, you’re not just releasing a bullet, you’re sending forth a message about the man that you are.”

The phrase "survival of the fittest" came to mind throughout reading Vipers and Red Rocks (VaRR). However, themes like "sacrifice" and "brotherhood" also ran alongside it. With the "against all odds" and "leave no man behind" feel of old school action movies of my youth, where the hero(s) is/are bigger than life, that is what you will get in reading this book. It is one vicious telling of focused revenge. Hunter Moss is this war-forged hero who walks through Hell and back to administer retribution to the motorcycle gang that killed his family and destroyed his town.
One thing that rang true in this story (at least for the first part of this novel) is that "patience is a virtue." It had to be for Hunter Moss to take out each member over a 400-day window of time (the story starts at the tail end of that vicious window of time). Constantly biding his time, Moss was the calm before his war storm hit each member. Moss was closer to his goal with each downed man, but with each fallen enemy, the danger, tension, and stakes ramped up to the final showdown.
I've loved all three books in the Broken Fang Series, so it is hard to choose my favorite. But I enjoy Goozdich's writing, prose, and passion for telling stories. I hope he keeps doing what he is doing.
One of my favorite things about VaRR is the ending chapter. With all the violence throughout this book, the last chapter left me in a great place. Get it and read the story yourself to know what I'm talking about.

Vipers and Red Rocks

This is a action packed story about Hunter, an ex-marine and ex-cop. Who will stop at nothing to rid the world of the Hellhounds biker gang that decimated his small town and took his father from him.

I was hooked from the start. Reading this story I felt like I was watching some of of my favorite classic 80’s action movies like Commando, Rambo, even Predator (minus the alien) in my head.

LS Goozdich has an incredible talent for pulling you into the story and making you feel like you’re right there in the moment with Hunter. From his descriptions of the landscape around him and dialing in the scope of his rifle. To the way a knife is plunged to the hilt while penetrating the flesh and then the bone of an enemy. The story envelops you and keeps you on edge until the last page!
There are a lot of moments in this book, that show how physical strength is an important factor in combat. But it is not the only strength one needs to carry on. Mental strength is just as important and shows that it is a key component to having physical strength. Then with the strength of family to create a trifecta, we are shown how you can move mountains.

If you’re a fan of westerns or , you will want to grab a copy of Vipers and Red Rock.
Make sure to check out his other work too!

I stumbled onto LS Goozdich on Instagram and was immediately intrigued by his books (Frozen Wrath being the first) and his focus on bringing back the fun pulp fiction of yesteryear. Goozdich’s appreciation of men’s adventure fiction and modern day military thrillers comes through in his writing. This newest book, Vipers and Red Rocks is a fast and exciting adventure. Short in length at 130 pages, but just right in quality and vintage goodness. Even Goozdich’s decision to publish the paperback in the old, classic pulp paperback size is fun to read. It reminds me of reading Louis L’Amore’s books. The story follows Hunter (former military and police) who is living off the land and bringing vengeance on some bad guys. It fits nicely with the neo-western books of today like CJ Box’s Joe Picket or Craig Johnson’s Longmire. I love this genre and found Vipers and Red Rocks to hold its own in the genre. I also must make note of the improvement in story telling and writing style. The clever word smithing is still there, but in a controlled, more mature way. Additionally, the harsh brutality of before is replace with a narrative that I can recommend to anyone, especially due to the redemptive quality of this plot. Well done, LS! 5⭐️! Recommended! Can’t wait for the next one.

Vipers and Red Rocks

DNF. Didn’t care about the characters. Didn’t like Hunter. He blows up a place where the bad guys are hiding without checking it out and discovering that there was a group of young trafficked girls there also. He just shrugs it off. Later he shots Park in the shoulder and that doesn’t bother Park. He doesn’t mention it to his wife or child. Hunter gets his knee blown off and can’t walk. Few pages later he is carrying Radigan, as dead weight, for at least eight miles! After a gun fight with the bad guys, walking all over the dessert and nearby dying of thirst, Hunter realizes Radigan is carrying a canteen. That’s when he realizes Radigan is still alive. Surprised he didn’t bleed out. That’s when I gave up. Not recommended.

If there was one way to describe Vipers and Red Rocks, think of it like a modern-day Louis L’Amour Western.

Interesting little read that has elements of Rambo, Reacher, and all the other popular "man fiction" types of books. Basic tale of revenge and fighting your way out of a bad situation. Nothing groundbreaking but enjoyable enough that I would consider checking out more from this author.
