Roxsanna Roberts has sworn off men entirely. She's a self-sufficient, independent woman and doesn't need any man, thank you very much.
Especially when that man is Travis Hayes, the dangerously attractive MMA fighter that teaches the kickboxing class she takes for self-defense... because a restraining order is just a piece of paper.
She learned that lesson the hard way.
When trouble finds her in Melody Hills, she decides it's time for a Texas sized change; take her best friend up on his offer and move to Northern Michigan. As it becomes clear that her every move is being watched, she grudgingly accepts when Travis insists on escorting her on her move across the country, where she's bound and determined to start a new life. Alone.
But when she and Travis get stranded in the middle of nowhere during a mid-west thunderstorm, their only option is to take refuge at a tiny motel--with only one bed--and surrender to the desire they've both been fighting against.
As Roxy's guard is torn down like a straw house in a tornado, she realizes too late that she underestimated the danger coming for her... and the lengths being taken to keep her out of Travis' arms for good.
Danielle Baker was born and raised in the beautiful city of Petoskey, nestled on the crystalline shores of Lake Michigan. She is blissfully married to the love of her life, Nicholas. Danielle’s love of writing began while she was in high school. At the urging of her family, Danielle was given the boost she needed to ‘Get back in the saddle’ and keep reaching for her lifelong dream of becoming a published author. When Danielle isn’t working, writing, or spending time with her family, she can be found with a cup of coffee in one hand and a book in the other.
I knew from the beginning I was going to love Travis because A: Tattoos 😍😍😍 B: He beat Roxy’s abusive ex C: He calls her baby girl, SWOOON 😍
Roxy & Travis were broken characters with the most love to give. Their story had me emotional and rooting for them the entire time. From their first meeting to the epilogue, I was hooked on them.
As a Michigander that has lived in Texas, I’m so glad this story ended in Michigan. Petoskey is one of my favorite places in the state & I love that this series takes place there. I giggled at the bridge road trip scene, because I hate driving that bridge 😂
I felt like I was pulled right into this book & I’m hoping a certain best friend makes her way up to Michigan too 😍
𝐅𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐐𝐮𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬: “Roxy, I would drag this damn trip out for weeks if I could, just so I don’t have to say good-bye to you in a few days. I’ll take every extra second I can get with you.”
“I never thought love was worth the fight. But when I found you, baby girl, I was ready for war.”
𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐢𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐞𝐧𝐣𝐨𝐲: • Romantic Suspense • Road Trip • One Bed • Insta Love 🌶️🌶️.5
**Make sure to check TW with this book. Many heavy topics are discussed and shown on page.
Thank you Danielle Baker for an e-arc in exchange of my honest opinion!
This was my first by the author and I will definitely be going back to read the rest in the series! I am a total sucker for romantic suspense and once I started I couldn't put the book down!
I loved that Travis was a retired MMA fighter! It totally worked in the story! Roxy was a strong character that stepped up protect herself against a stalker and I really love that Travis and Roxy met at the gym and that she took one of his classes!
This is the fourth book in a series, and it’s highly recommended to read the books in order. Let me tell you, you will not be disappointed with any book in this series. I devoured all of them. In this book we get Roxy and Travis’ story. They are both survivors, but still broken from things in their past, and when they come together it’s absolute magic. They help each other heal and grow into better versions of themselves, and it’s beautiful to read. The plot is rich and captivating, and the spice is luscious. The other main character in this and the other books in this series is the town of Petoskey Michigan, which you as a reader can tell the love the author has for this place. It will have you wondering, “Do I need to live in Petoskey?” Highly recommend! 4.25/5⭐️ 4/5🌶️
I am so thankful for the opportunity to read this as an ARC. Now, I just have to “patiently” wait for the rest of the books, patience isn’t my strong suit.
Another fantastic book from Danielle Baker. In this book we get Roxy and Travis’ story, they met when Roxy’s friend got her to sign up for his kick boxing classes at the Gym. If you’ve read the previous books in the series you know Roxy’s ex is an abusive jerk and Travis would go to the ends of the Earth to protect her.
I really love when series have over lap between books with the same characters at different points in their lives. Danielle really does a great job of keeping the details of recurring characters .
Really liked the male MC Travis. He was the right mix of strong and protective. Roxy reminded me of those females in the thriller movies that always run in the wrong direction. I just couldn’t understand some of the decisions she made.
Just wow. I am so very excited and happy that I received an arc for this amazing book. Danielle takes you on quite the adventure with Roxy and Travis. It was extremely emotional, suspenseful and powerful. I was literally gripped from beginning to end. I have not read any of the other books in this series so was not caught up on Roxy. But let me tell you that did not at all stop me from loving this character. She is strong stubborn and determined. Danielle wrote her character beautifully. Roxy is back in Texas living her life free from her ex. But little does she know that is so far from the truth. Travis is a former MMA fighter that is teaching her about kickboxing and slowly learning that there is someone out there that has a rough life they are trying to get away from. Throw these two together and you have instant sparks and amazing chemistry. But hold on because the suspense builds and these two take you on quite the ride. Will they get their happy ever after? I literally could not put this one down. Danielle has a very unique writing style and I absolutely loved it. There is so much emotion and feeling in each character which makes for a great storyline.
I was waiting for Roxy’s book. I knew she was going to be a badass FMC and I was not disappointed.
Roxy is back in Texas living her life free of her ex or so she thought. She’s taking kickboxing classes as a form of self defense and working and trying to live her life but knows that things are going missing and then the notes start arriving. To say Roxy is terrified is an understatement but she’s still trying to live her life. Things come to a head and Roxy decides she needs to take Free and Jodi up on their offer. So she plans to run.
Travis is the former MMA fighter covered in tattoos who keeps everyone at a distance. He’s seems Roxy around the gym and is actually teaching the self defense class. He’s protective over her and is being drawn in by all the wonderful that is Roxy. When she decides to run Travis is there to help her and keep her safe.
On the way to Michigan they stop fighting the attraction they’ve had blossoming since the beginning. The forced proximity and the way he is willing to defend her at all turns make her feel safe and warm. On the week long road trip they fall in love.
Roxy asks Travis to stay and they start to figure things out. Now Roxy has more to loose than just her home in Texas. We all knew the ex would make one last stand because all douche canoes must and he is no different. Roxy saves herself knowing that she had to fight not just for herself but for Travis and for the life they may be able to have. Travis is there at the end to comfort and keep her together.
When everything is said and done all their pasts and secrets are out in the open for each other and the love they have is stronger than the circumstances that would tear them apart.
This was such a fun book. The flanter was so fun and I loved watching Roxy build not only herself back up but gave the support of a wonderful to help her along the way!!
Sometimes it’s okay to be saved while learning to save yourself….without giving too much away, I’ll say Roxy is in a very serious situation that was written in truth and vulnerability which brought this story alive! I always find it inspirational when a character or a person can be in the worse point of their lives and come back to discover strengths they thought they’d lost. That is exactly what Roxy does in this story. Travis is by her side from the start wanting to protect her, but also encourages her to be a stronger version of herself. He has his own demons that he fights, but in helping Roxy he also finds a way to push through his past to be a better version of himself as well. The chemistry between these two is off the charts! When the spice starts spicing, there’s no holding back! Roxy is not a quiet mouse who sits idly by. She has the smarts and sass we’ve come to love from her in the previous books of this series and has no problem fighting Travis every step of the way. Travis is a sexy and gruff alpha fighter on the outside with a sweet side he only shows to Roxy. I’ve loved every book Danielle has written, but the way these characters come from such a real and raw space is beautifully woven together.
ARC Review * Release 8/1/24 READ THIS NOW! 10/10 would recommend. Swoon worthy! Medium spice! Standalone! Lots of action that keeps you on your toes and an emotional rollercoaster that grips you from beginning to end!
Roxy is a strong abuse survivor and Travis is a fierce tattooed retired MMA fighter who is really just a big marshmallow. If you need another book boyfriend Travis is right up at the top of the list for me now. I love a strong woman and Roxy did not disappoint. This is the first book in the Petoskey Stone series I have read and after reading this one I am excited to check out her other books. But man am I going to have a book hang over from this one. This needs to be your next book NOW!
This is book 4 in the series and in the first three you see so much of Roxy's back story with her dickbag ex.
Roxy thinks travis is a walking red flag at first because of her past experience. But things change between them and their connection and chemistry is 🔥
I loved finally seeing Roxy's story, i wanted her to have more and with Travis she definitely got more. His protectiveness was unmatched and the lengths he was willing to go for her.
This book had heavy topics, but they were handled well and i loved the journey that these two broken people went on together.
I love a one bed trope and this one definitely delivered.
One of my only real complaints (and it’s totally a me thing) is that’s its 3rd POV — which kind of takes me out of the story a little.
I dove into this book and couldn't put it down. I love how protective Travis is over Roxy even before they realize what they mean to each other. I love her struggle to resist and keep him at arm's length. This is truly an amazing read; if you never pick up another book let this be the last one you do. I could go on and on about the chemistry in this story and the true genius that is Danielle, but I think all I will say here is go get that book. Whether you prefer ebook or physical you won't regret that decision.
Wow. Just wow. I am beyond grateful that I received an ARC, and got to experience this extremely emotional, suspenseful, and powerful journey for Roxy and Travis. Roxy is quite literally fighting for her life, and Travis is the former MMA fighter who teaches her kickboxing classes at their gym. They both have tragic backgrounds, but their journey together is incredible. I have fallen so in love with these characters and cannot wait for what’s next!
The writing itself was good, but the story didn't hold me. It felt like I didn't have a reason to care about the characters or their motivations. I DNF at 66% after After that, I tried to pick it up several times but wasn't interested in finishing it. But it should be noted that writing a book is no easy task, and I admire the author greatly for doing what she loves.
I love Danielle’s books she never disappoints! This is my favorite book in the Petoskey series! Travis and Roxy are perfect and made for each other! Travis went through hell in his younger years and took to boxing. Roxy and her best friend joined his boxing class! She was strong independent and stubborn! Such an amazing book can’t wait for the next one!!!
Danielle Baker writes a beautiful story. You'll fall in love with Roxy and Travis. Roxy is fleeing from an abusive ex. Travis is a former MMA fighter who had heartache of his own. What will happen when he offers to drive her across country so he can protect her? I loved the action, as well as the romance and heat. My favorite couple so far.
5 stars! This book was great! It could definitely be read as a standalone, but I do recommend the rest of the series. This was book 4 and definitely my favorite of them all! I love the romantic suspense of this story, as it gave you more than just a love story. Your MMC is one of those “touch her and die” guys, but it’s written so you love him! 🙌🏻 I read it in just over a day because I never wanted to put it down.
This is the 4th book in the Petoskey Stone series, and I loved it! ALL the feels… sadness, fear, triumph, happiness… and add in a sassy FMC and a super drool worthy MMC… SO GOOD
I even read parts of this book aloud to my husband. I can’t say it enough - so good!
Danielle Baker has done it again. I binged this book and read the entire book in one day because I could not put it down. I was literally brought to tears as the story line of Roxy and Travis were brought to life. My only disappointment is that I have to wait for her next book to come out.
Arc Review: Releases 8.1.24. Great next installment in the Petoskey Stone series. Love that these books are locally based for me. I do enjoy that this book starts off in Texas but ties back in to Northern Michigan. Loved Roxy & Travis as characters and watching them grow together.
Danielle Baker did it again! I love reading about these sexy cowboys, especially in my home state of Michigan. And not just cowboys! This MMA fighter is HAWT and so protective. I love Travis and Roxy together! Can't wait to read the next one!
This b ooko is amazing. I think it is my favorite in the series so far. Steamy, roomantic, suspensful. Travis is the perfect book boyfriend! Sweet but visiuos. Roxy is so strong and she doesn't even realize it.
This book is one of the best of the series. I’m completely obsessed with the FMC and she is in my top top all time. This story pulls in a supporting character from Dani’s first book in the Petoskey series, Roxy. Her journey through a past relationship and the fallout, combined with the MMC from heaven. Watching this couple transform throughout the book and develop was amazing. I’m so grateful that I was able to read this book and I cannot wait for another installment in the PSS from Dani. She is the best 3rd POV I have ever read and an instant buy for me.
This book has a bit of everything…spice, suspense, drama, love. Roxy is a great character, and I loved watching her and Travis’s feeling for each other develop as they try to keep Roxy safe from her past. There are some definite triggers, so check them before you read. Loved their happily ever after.
This is book 4 in this series but can definitely be read as a standalone. I haven't read books 1-3 yet but will likely go back to read them.
Travis is a former MMA fighter who has claimed Texas as his home state. Roxy is a bartender/ line dancing instructor in Texas. They meet at the local gym where they both work out and Travis teaches a kickboxing class there.
They try to stay away from each other and make it not so obviously that they find each other attractive. They get a little closer after Roxy has a fainting spell from low blood sugar.
Roxy's ex has been MIA for a year in a half, so she thinks she's safe until sticky notes start appearing in her house and things go missing. Neal is the literal worst human being, but I did love the suspense in this one.
During a kickboxing class where Roxy isn't paying enough attention after a threat appeared, Travis can tell something is wrong but Roxy tries to play it off. He kinda vows then to protect her and be there if she needs him. But Roxy is fiesty and independent and doesn't need anybodys help.
This is a slow burn, but once these two are together it's explosive. I loved how their relationship grew and how fierce of a protector Travis was. He would do anything for her!
I absolutely loooooved this book. I loved Roxy. She was so feisty, but not too feisty for my taste. She was the perfect balance between vulnerable and strong. And where do I start with Travis??? He is exactly my cup of tea. Perfect combination between alpha and cinnamon roll. Big and buff, but emotionally aware and strong. I had a hard time putting this book down and getting to work on time. I couldn’t recommend this book more.
FMC ruined it for me. She made every possible wrong decision she could and it was incredibly frustrating to read. Travis was the only reason I kept reading.
