A coterie of young people in St. Catharines, Ontario, writes notes and letters to each other, beginning several years before the eve of World War 1, and continuing throughout the war and its aftermath. The thread of a love story emerges as the writers' emotions and observations gather steam, and the young men go off to war. Peter Svenson's accompanying narrative places these missives within the context of world events as they specifically relate to Canadian history. This nonfiction offering is the first of its kind to explore the relationship between ordinary Canadian citizens and global events which impacted their lives throughout this harrowing era.
Peter Svenson was born in 1944. He has a B.A. from Tufts University and an M.F.A. in painting from the University of North Carolina. He lives Cross Keys, Virginia.
