Clearly this book was written as a low level, high interest type, hoping to get older students who struggle reading interested in a series. Unfortunately, this book does a disservice to struggling readers everywhere. It lacks plot structure, doesn't make sense, and, as my husband said, is weird. (but not in a good way) The art is mediocre and the decorations to the text are distracting. Verdict: Do not purchase this series for struggling (or voracious) readers.

The dark man helps the old man. The dark man can fight in the dark but the old man cannot. The Shadow Masters come in the dark. The dark man must keep the golden cup from the shadow masters. I found this to be an odd series. The books are small. The illustrations are very surreal looking, black and white and swirly. Skimpy writing, not many words but the story gets told.

The Dark man series are hi/lo horror novels appropriate for students in middle and high school. Readers will appreciate that the books in this series do not look like "baby books." They will also be excited to have books from the horror/fantasy genre that are accessible (Lexile level) to them.

Kookkaisiin kuviin ja niukkaan kerrontaan tukeutuva minimalistinen teos. Yksi kummallisimpia kirjoja, jonka olen koskaan lukenut.

Quite a simple read, really for remedial english teaching, and properly geared to teens than adults.

The Dark man discusses with the old man why he is the one who has to hunt the dark, he is also told to hunt the golden cup.
