"...compelling and well-plotted...The Seren Trilogy is most highly recommended." -Readers' Favorite-

Our world was born into chaos four billion years ago. It has survived to nurture and protect a species that is duty-bound to help it live. And it's not human. Now, those protectors are dying and the Earth will perish. Their leader Rox has a plan, but she will not be alone. From a chance meeting, Rox will travel with the bravest creature she has ever a young human girl, Ellie.
Her new dragon companion, Cole, will fly her to amazing heights and plummet to the lowest depths beneath the earth, as they embark together on a perilous and personal quest to discover something precious lost so long ago. The fate of mankind hangs in the balance and on the shoulders of Ellie and her new friend. Old and new friendships will come together to overcome the dreadful future the young friends have unleashed upon the world. Everything must be risked and sacrificed if Ellie is to save everyone she knows and loves.
A choice must be made. A price must be paid. And only one girl can make it.
Begin reading Ellie’s adventure today, and travel with her to the far reaches of the past.
Darren Lewis was born in Cardiff in 1975 and now lives with his family in Norfolk. Although an avid reader of many genres it wasn't until his daughter, Ellie aged 6, asked for a story of her own that inspired him to put pen to paper. "Ellie and I would like to make up bedtime stories, mainly about a kangaroo that travelled the world and have adventures." These bedtime stories would lead to a first book in the trilogy. 'Ellie and the Rabbits' in which our young heroine meets a group of talking rabbits. "My main goals were to induce a sense of wonder for my daughter, a sense of purpose and the importance of helping others." A short book of poems for children followed and the sequel 'Ellie and the Dragon' was published in August and the trilogy was completed and published in December 2013 in 'Ellie and the Battle.' The independent publishers Creativia added the books into their portfolio in early 2014 and published then as an omnibus edition entitled The Seren Trilogy. Ellie's next series of adventures, set four years after the trilogy, are now available. A series of five books collectively known as The Baiulus Series. The five books deal with the ramifications of events in the previous books. Darren is currently writing the first book that will complete the overall story for Ellie, entitled Sisters of Ruin. When not writing Darren can be found walking the coastlines of Norfolk or painting and crafting with a particular fondness for steampunk, a subject he hopes to write about soon.
I received a free copy of The Seren Trilogy in return for an honest review.
And what I found was indescribable fun. A story for wildly imaginative children wherein a little girl and her cat travel through space and time meeting one adventure after another; including but not limited to talking rabbits on a mission to save the world, angry dragons pledged to destroy it, an old dark house next door, and magic, lots and lots of magic. None of it makes very much sense but then neither does The Wizard of Oz. Author Darren Lewis offers up a crazy fantasy with a quirky sense of humor and a lot of heart.
Cosmic rabbits, natural magic and a dragon. Irresisitible! 'The Seren Trilogy' is a thrilling mix of family life, humour and visionary magic. The three stories interweave, detailing high fantastical events. Young Ellie's life is very home based and secure. Then, one special day, an ordinary family picnic turns into a wild and magical adventure. An adventure involving rabbits who have access to magical powers and an amazing creation myth. Ellie discovers the power of Seren and becomes a heroine. All wonderful.
The title of the second story, 'Ellie and the Dragon' gives a hint of what is to come. I don't want to give anything away, but I wished I was Ellie when reading this book. Beautiful images remain in my mind.
In book three Ellie faces a world ending battle. We are taken up into the celestial spheres and then back into daily life. The trilogy has a strange and wonderful ending. I've just discovered that there will be further adventures. Thrilled!
Darren Lewis is a true imaginator, a creator of dreams and visions. He also shows poetic skill when naming characters. As well as Ellie, I particularly loved Rox, Plume, Cast and Cole. And Grace/Ginger. You'll have to read the books to find out who they are!
'The Seren Trilogy' is an inspirational read, perfect for kids and adults who want to break free from the constrictions of 'normal' existence and do brave and world shattering deeds. Highly recommended for dreamers, stargazers (like Ellie's Dad) and dragon lovers.
From the moment I started reading this book, I felt a smile on my face and joy in my heart. I knew it was going to be a wonderful tale. And I was not mistaken. What a magical, wondrous world Seren lives in. I have a penchant for cats, rabbits and dragons, so I really loved Grace, (Oh sorry, Ginger), Rox and Cole. Darren Lewis did an awesome job bringing the different characters to life with the mannerism of each animal. The story reads like a fairy-tale. Seren is innocent and brave and she understands and steps up to the self-scarf ice she needs to make to save her world. This is a great book for middle age children on up to adults. I look forward to the sequel.
Now for the Cons. There were several technical issues. First, the TOC was at the very back of the book. Not where it’s supposed to be. There were also some grammatical errors. ‘Was sat’ is used a lot, which is not correct. There were numerous words missing or words that should have been deleted. The reader shouldn’t have to correct the writing as they’re reading. These errors seem to be a common occurrence with self-published authors or small publishing companies.
That being said, I really loved this story and I would recommend it for everyone. I give it 4 feathers.
The Seren Trilogy is about a little girl's adventures in a fantastical place created by the imaginative Darren Lewis. The chief protagonist, Ellie, is based upon his own daughter which makes the story extra special as it's written from the heart with great love and affection. The characters are lots of fun as Darren's clever writing and wonderfully descriptive narrative flows along, interweaving between the three stories. The three stories are Ellie and the Rabbits where she meets talking rabbits and is turned into a rabbit herself! The second Ellie and the Dragon - as good a dragon as my own Jellybean? Hmm... By the way, she meets Cole, an orphan dragon in a basement! And the third, Ellie and the Battle - where she and Cole need to save the world with unexpected results.
A perfect story for children that is sure to make them excited and dreaming of their own fantastical adventures. Looking forward to the next adventures of Ellie.
Darren Lewis is the new literary Lewis on the block. I sampled this first before passing it onto my daughters, who I know will love it. It is three separate stories centred around a little girl called Ellie, with an individual theme in each, they being family life, friendship, and magic. Lewis sets Ellie and her dragon in a fantastical new world, drawing on age-old themes that are easily identifiable, but excellently re-created in this wonderful setting. Your kids will love it.
Magical adventure ride.... Don’t you just love all the wonderful ideas you find in children’s books? This one has an abundance of them. Do you often wonder, as I do, what keeps the world revolving and what ever became of all the dragons? The Seren Trilogy has the answers. It’s well paced and cleverly put together as a trilogy. This is a terrific story book kids will love, and parents will enjoy reading along. Try the sample – you’ll see!
