Chelsea Moon has had better days. Weeks. Months. Years.
When real life gets too hard Chelsea decides to fly back to Pendle Island, a place she has not been since she was born. She’s looking forward to a vacation, but when she arrives, she’s quickly thrown into mayhem. Her Great Aunt Griselda has died, and Chelsea is needed at the funeral.
She’s barely halfway through a stack of breakfast pancakes when her cousin Lizzy drops another bombshell. Chelsea is a witch, and her Great Aunt didn’t just die. She was murdered.
Things go from bad to worse when Chelsea and her cousin start to follow the breadcrumbs. Her Great Aunt had been an infamous miser and hated by just about everyone on Pendle Island. Witches don’t get much more wicked than Griselda.
After an ancient legal loophole leaves Chelsea as the sole heir of Griselda’s estate, she suddenly finds herself in charge of a haunted house on a hill, home to a mad pirate ghost, a talking cat, and a burly lumberjack with a curious secret.
If that wasn’t enough, she’s got a dreamy sheriff to contend with, and a silver-tongued lawyer who is as charming as he is cunning. It’s a lot to process, especially when Chelsea learns about a family curse dangling over her head. The last thing she wants is to end up like her man-eater mother, but it seems she can’t help attracting attention…
With a curse to run from, a murder to solve, and a needy cat to please, Chelsea finds her plate fills up very quickly. There’s also the small matter of avoiding death and learning magic, but that’s easy enough. Right?

Great story line, needs a bit more editing/proofreading
I enjoyed reading this series, but ran into some glaring grammatical errors and some complete mix up with the proper character names here and there! I still enjoyed reading them
Just a pity that the author often contradicts herself in the story. Then there is also the issue of the books not being properly proof read for errors. But otherwise it kept me entertained
Very enjoyable plot, characters, and dialogue. It's not often I want to read parts of a book out loud to whoever is in the room with me.
That said, this series has a surprising number of spelling errors, and commas are constantly used in places where it should have been a different punctuation mark. So, your enjoyment of this series depends on how offended you are by these sorts of errors. The last series I tried to read had terribly boring characters, so this series shone by contrast.
Oh and I just want to note that I'd actually rate the final book lower than the rest because all the characters are extremely stupid about the murder investigation. None of them asked the obvious questions until nearly the end. I knew who the killer was before they even started interrogating suspects.
New witch to head witch? Yes! Unfortunately, it is a learn as you go training period for a witch in training', as well as a ' detective in training'! Our witch/detective finds time to meet her new familiar, family, find her new brother and father, solve mysteries and make the sheriff her boyfriend. It was a fun reading book series. The downside is there is no editing and this series really needs it. Authors owe it to their readers to edit their books for a smooth reading experience!
This series does have magic & murder mysteries but does not have a lot of humor or sarcasm like I thought it would. Although it had moments here & there, it really needed more to give it more of a punch. It is a solid story line which picks up easily in the next book during the series which I did like. Not bad but needs more excitement, humor or sarcasm to make it a lot better.
I loved every book and line. The repartee and the jokes have had me laughing out loud and the amazing magic would be great to see on the big screen. I love the well drawn characters and I will definitely drop in, visit new friends in Pendle Island and its inhabitants again. I thoroughly recommend this set of books and I will be looking for more from this author.
I downloaded this to my kindle to read during a two day road trip. I tried, but I couldn't finish it. It's too ridiculous to be entertaining. There are explanations that seem to be there for no reason but to take up space, and odd ways of saying things that don't make sense. "How very dare you" is used several times. Maybe this was written for (or by) a twelve year old.
Just to say I love this series would be an understatement! I found Mara to be witty, amusing with original ideas. The story was fantastic, the characters intriguing? I look forward to following this writer. One minor problem was chapter 14 could use a little better editing. Best wishes for a successful future in your career.
After gaining an old family home at the death of a relative she never met, she finds out she is a witch, but her powers have been stunted. New town, new home, and new friends. Finding a dead body was not on her lost of things to do. Interesting stories and after 12 books I wouldn't mind a couple more. Good Read.
I thoroughly enjoyed the story line and characters. Loved Artemis! The only thing that I didn't like was misspelled words like muscles instead of the seafood dish called mussels. The editor should have caught stuff like that. I will continue to read everything Mara writes!
This set of books is great. The mysteries are great with the the right twists and turns. The stories move right along and kept my intrest. The editing was rather poor in the last book in particular but you could make sense of it. So even bloopers didn't spoil the story.
This is a 12 book series. From the first book all the way through to the 12th I was captivated. Each book had a different mystery story and each one was unique. I am a little sad I have finished reading this set. I recommend it to anyone interested in light fiction novels.
Enjoyed the series very much! Chelsea (Sponks) Moon inherits her aunt’s house along with her cat. Chelsea lived away from Pendle Island since infancy so she doesn’t know anything about the Sponks women and their legacy. Little does she know what a topsy turvy life she’s about to embark on! Murder, spells, witches, wizards, etc.
I have really enjoyed getting to know the characters in this series. The books manage quite well without my pat peeves. There isn't a lot of screaming, no kowtowing to men or playing the helpless female to manipulate men. Enjoy these books. I am looking forward to the rest of the books.
Mara Webb is a great writer. Her books are fun with great story lines. Usually with the crazy family That would always have your back Good mysteries A little bit of romance And don't forget The familiar They're always A great character. Good Clean books for any age Hope you enjoy as much as I did
Great characters and the dialogue was entertaining. Excitement and laughter abound. Webb knows how to create tension and thrills. Wish there were another 12 books
From start to finish, the series was very pleasant, entertaining, and sometimes exciting. The characters were fully developed in each very different personalities. The author followed the characters from introduction to a very satisfying end.
Twelve books in one was a real draw for me on top of the subjects of mysteries and witches. All of these books have murder, mystery, magic, humor, angst, betrayal, family drama, new friends and love. Highly entertaining.
Wow, what a series of books, one realistic heroine with a great supporting cast, an intrequing setting both house and island, and with Magic and mysteries thrown in. Thoroughly enjoyable
I love it when an author creates a believable world involving magic and witch craft and this series delivers in spades. Great characters, believable yet fantastical problems, detective work and solutions with a difference, this series is well worth a read!
New witch who powers charge up by solving mysteries? The other half if your new abilities is a familiar. But aside from the interesting parts you keep tripping over dead bodies.
I have really enjoyed reading this set of books each one is a stand alone mystery just with the same characters. They are all houmorous and full of fun with lots of witchy things going on. I would recommend them to anyone who enjoys a good witch mystery.
All the characters, locations stories lives are fabulous. Only issue for me was the sheriffs brother’s death. Felt the story didn’t need his death or even his character.
It was a sweet and mystery to what was going to happen next. Some of the time you or at least I did figure out who was the guilty party was but it keeps you wanting to read more. The plots were interesting and fun to imagine you were there with them
I really enjoyed reading this box set. I liked reading about the witches helping to solve mysteries on Pendle Island & their talking familiars while hiding their magical powers from ordinary people. I would recommend this box set to anyone who likes Witch mysteries.
I loved Chelsea and her quirky family! The cases and mysteries she takes you on are never ending and full of intrigue. I recommend this to anyone who needs and entertaining escape from the real world. Count me in for the next series ( if there is one)!
Well written, lively story and characters, good plot development, and, honestly, just fun to read and enjoy the characters as they solved the mysteries.
Excellent series! Each book gives a new plot and character growth, with the needed location changes to keep things fresh. At the end of the series you are left with just one question - when is the next one coming?
This entire well told story is alive with well created characters that grab you so fast you find yourself immersed into this mystery that is just fantastic loved it
