Pirates, a fight for the throne, witches, curses, and coups.

The youngest prince of the royal Van Doren line was lost and forgotten, living stolen away in a not-so-distant kingdom beneath the horizon.

Hired by a private employer to hunt the notorious sirens that lure sailors from port, Iris Halloway risks more than a crew and a job to plunder more than what she’d ever intended.

I just finished the first draft of this. We're looking pretty rough, but it's four years in the making. I hope you all love it.

3/4/24 I've just added what I hope to be the final cover before release day. Big things.

6/19/24 After several unforeseen setbacks, this book is finally complete. The new expected publication date is sometime within the next few days.

6/20/24 Happy official book birthday to The Music of Monsters, my first full length book and longtime passion project. Here’s to chaos and chaos making. 🥂

E-copy provided in exchange for a review:
Great prose for a debut novel! Great for fans of The Cruel Prince and Fable with political intrigue set against the seas as a pirate finds herself caught in the middle of a royal coup.

The action was so fun and I thought the inclusion of sirens was really creative. It’s a quick and light read, which was refreshing on a summer afternoon, but also made me feel a bit like I was reading half a book at times. It felt like it started in the middle of a narrative, which immediately got me hooked, but also left me confused with the world building and any of the main character’s history. The dialogue and sensory details were very realistic, they really helped ground me in the story, but some of the details regarding the characters felt a but rushed. By the end of the book, I really liked Iris, but I still had no idea what color her hair was or why she was a privateer in the first place. I think if this book maybe had a prologue to establish what kind of world we were in (there are mentions of magic but also Rome exists somewhere in the history? Kinda threw me) and the character intentions were clearer, it would be a 5 star read.
