God wants to have a real, vibrant relationship with us.
Just as communication is central to any relationship, prayer is an essential part of one's relationship with God. Though it may seem natural for some, most people struggle with prayer due to busyness, laziness, distractions, and guilt. Some people want to pray but simply don't know how. Prayerful will help you overcome these obstacles by looking to the Scriptures and the prayer lives of Christians through the ages for guidance. Divided into thirty short chapters, this book makes for a wonderful daily devotional and will help you learn to embrace prayer—not as a method, but as a way of life. Each chapter ends with thought-provoking questions that are perfect for individual reflection and group discussions.
Praying may not always change our circumstances, but we will always be changed for the better when we encounter God through prayer.
Dr. Todd Von Helms has hit a homerun with his most recent book, Prayerful. Theologically rich, yet incredibly approachable, this short devotional is one that every Christian should have on their shelf this year. In the book, Von Helms reminds readers of the vast importance of prayer, and challenges them frequently to apply their knowledge. I found this to be particularly helpful, especially reading as a devotional. Whether you are many years into your walk with the Lord, or have yet to begin, I believe that this book could be transformative for you. Fantastic job Dr. Von Helms!
This is a well written book, with a style that engages you from the first page. Using references from the Bible and theologians across the ages, the author lays out practical advice and ways to enhance your prayer life. With personal anecdotes and real life examples, the author brings to life a subject that could easily be dry and “preachy”. This book is neither; but gives an inspired and insightful way to increase the power of your prayer life
Says Todd Von Helms, “You and I simply cannot be the people God intends us to be unless we become prayerful people.” He’s right.
His book is clear, succinct, empathetic and yet presses us to overcome the obstacles that so often disrupt our desire to pray. Chapters are short but packed full. It would be a great book to read and pray through with a group!
definitely convicted me in what my prayer life currently looks like vs what it should look like if I really believe that prayer is meaningful and powerful and that God is really worthy of our time. also gives good practical steps or ideas of how to create good habits.
