When small town high school senior Anna Scott, loses her family in a mysterious accident and wakes up to the charming and mischievous Aaden Cross, her quiet and predictable world takes an impossible turn. Sent from the parallel universe of Everly, Aaden reveals the unimaginable secrets Anna’s family have kept hidden leaving her feeling lost and second guessing everything she’s ever known. Without her twin sister to turn to, Anna struggles to understand the significant role she’s expected to play in Everly, and why the unlawful Valdorian clan is hell bent on taking her for themselves. But as Anna discovers the responsibilities and sacrifices that come with being a Descendant, she can’t help but break the one promise Aaden needs her to keep. Now, Anna must decide between doing what’s right or risking everything to follow her heart.
I received this book as a goodreads giveaway. Thank you so much to Julie for posting me the book so quickly and for the gorgeous personalised note inside of the package.
I felt instantly drawn to this book for the gorgeous cover on it and from reading the blurb for it I knew I had to get my hands on it and give it a go. I managed to sit and read it on and off throughout one whole day which is something I will only do if the book is just too good to walk away from for long periods of time. I felt instantly drawn into the story from the first page and I found it incredibly easy to like and feel for the main character Anna as she goes through the struggle of losing almost her entire family in one fateful night and having to try and find her way back into the world only to find she doesn’t entirely belong there anyway. For Aaden, the man tasked with protecting Anna, he’s written in a way that made me fall for him from the moment he first appeared on the page. He’s full of love, loyalty and laughs, what’s not to adore!
The story had a very good flow to it and was very well written. It never at any point got boring as there was never a lapse in the story where things became stale. My heart literally ached for the promise Anna made to Aaden and for the heartbreak she had to endure upon finding out that her life is devoid of choices and options and left me with the very strong urge to shake her senseless and tell her to say ‘’It’s my life and I’ll do what I want with it’’. If only things were that easy and I’m absolutely sure she herself would share the same sentiment as me.
The book has a pretty open ending setting itself up nicely to be continued in book two, which I’m hoping will answer some of the questions I felt left with at the end of Parallel Hearts and fingers crossed for a happy ever after! I never would have believed that this was Julie’s debut novel without looking into her bibliography as the book was just that fantastic. Thank you for the opportunity to read this and I literally can’t wait for book two Parallel Souls, I just hope that the wait isn’t too long…..I’m not sure my heart can wait too long!
"I love books because they don’t judge. They don’t care who you are or where you’ve been, and they’re always there when you need them. Books just want to be held in your hands, read with your eyes and played in your mind. There’s a story for everyone and everyone has a story to tell. When you open a book, you know you’re about to embark upon an amazing journey that will fill your mind with images and voices that are unique to you"
"what happens when the one you love does something unexpected, something that isn’t written within the pages of your storybook? What if they leave you for someone else? Die? Lie? Make a mistake that can’t be undone? Love is a strategic game of give and take, and with one wrong move, the one you love can break you"
Espero pronto poder leer la segunda parte "Parallel Souls"
Can I just start by saying that I'm so excited to tell y'all about this book? I mean, I thought before I read it that I was going to like it, but as it turns out, I loved it!
Anna's whole life is turned upside down when her parents die in a car accident in which her twin sister was apparently thrown from the car into the river below--never to be found. She is filled with an overwhelming sadness, and misses her family so much. Living with her grandmother, she's just taking her days one at a time. While her grandmother is away for a few days, she wakes up to a guy at the end of her bed(who she totally gets a good hit in on--just saying!). As it turns out, her world will never be the same. His name is Aaden Cross and he's from the parallel universe, Everly. Turns out, Anna's family is too, she's a Descendant and she now needs to go back. Then there's this thing with a promise that she so breaks, but I'm not going to give any spoilers.
This book was such a wonderful read! Great character descriptions, nice back story and lots of awesome plot twists. While I saw the big surprise reveal coming(no spoilers, remember?), it was still done in a way that really brought the book together. I absolutely loved Aaden and, though he made a few bad decisions, they were all made with a good heart.
The world of Everly is not like ours, the rules are different there--they have to be. With such a small population the Descendants do their best to keep everything under control. I truly cannot wait until book two, because I have to know what happens next! J.E. Darnbrough is new on the YA scene, this being her first book, but I have no doubts that this book is different than anything else out there in the genre. I highly recommend for young adult fans! *I received this book for review from the author, but this in no way affected my thoughts as expressed in this review.*
After I started this book, I couldn't stop. It starts out good and ends even better. The sisterly love really touched my heart. I defiantly recommend this to Sci/Fi fans.
Amazing book! Really enjoyed getting to know "Anna." You can tell the author poured herself into this character. This is the type of character that I am sure many people can relate to. Parallel Hearts keeps you on the edge of your seat wanting to know what will happen next. Very well written, your imagination can just run while reading; I found myself really feeling like I was right their along side the characters waiting for what was coming next. Great read.
I loved the book, I thought it was a very easy story to read, and I got hooked right away, I was really anxious to find out some stuff and I was not disappointed. I liked the writing style and I the emotional part of the story, I thought it was a good story that allowed me to lose myself in it. Can't wait for the next book.
I won this book from a goodreads contest and received it promptly with a personalized note.
Very easy to get into this story, and a pleasant distraction for me at this time. If only I could have my own motorcycle riding Aaden... Interesting concept of a parallel universe - enjoyable & easy read... Hopefully there's a sequel (or series) that follows because I want more...
