Thrones of Flame
Thrust into a dangerous game of politics, Esmeray is forced to reconsider what is most important to her in this highly anticipated sequel to Wolves of Flame.
Standing before the Royal Court of the Fae Queen, Esmeray is forced to pay for her prior victories as she faces charges of treason but her world is irrevocably altered as Gwyneiran soldiers storm the castle. Reagan orchestrates the Gwyneirans to abduct Esmeray in a last minute bid to save the love of his life as the Queen orders her execution.
Finding herself in an unknown land, Esmeray is caught in a web of espionage and intrigue as she spies for the Gwyneiran Fae, infiltrating the establishment of their rebel rulers. Meanwhile, Reagan devises his own plans to overthrow the Queen, and with rebellion on the horizon, both Esmeray and Reagan challenge their beliefs and morals in the name of justice.
In protecting their love, the pair must endure the challenge of their separation while continuing to work towards a common goal. It is then that Esmeray discovers unsettling truths about Reagan’s past, which threaten to destroy their love, life and future together.
Will Esmeray and Reagan unite to restore peace and justice, or will the flames of revolution consume them and everything they hold dear?

I want to begin by expressing my gratitude to Anna, for granting me the opportunity to arc read this novel! It was an absolute pleasure, and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it. You're truly an exceptional writer, and I'm thrilled to have witnessed your growth throughout this journey. I'm confident that you will continue to excel and evolve as an author.
I have to admit, I may even prefer this book to the first one. There's always room for improvement, especially in writing, and witnessing an author's progress is truly gratifying. This rings true for Anna, who has unquestionably enhanced her craft since the debut novel in this series.
The writing has undergone significant improvement, which is saying a lot considering the already commendable quality of her debut novel. Its clear that she diligently addressed the minor issues present in the first book, which I think is great. The dialogue flows much more smoothly now, with minimal instances that feel forced or awkward.
However, I did notice that at certain points, the language used could better match the timeline of the novel. While most of the time, the language reflects a more sophisticated style, there are moments where phrases like "stupid ass excuses" appear, which seemed more modern or slang-like to me. I believe better word choices could have been used, but these instances are infrequent and don't detract significantly from the overall experience.
The plot continues to get more and more captivating. I particularly admire the development between Cicero and Gwilym. Their tentative and sweet initial interactions melted my heart, and witnessing their growing trust and intimacy was delightful. One of the most lovely aspects of their relationship is the way Cicero, despite being human, assumes a significant role of authority. It's refreshing to see Gwilym allowing him to take charge, and it shows the depth of trust and love between them. The scenes where they simply enjoy each other's company are a joy to read, and I think I was totally correct from last time too— Gwilym is indeed a gentle giant.
I am thoroughly enjoying the dynamic between Callahan and Esme. While I appreciate Reagan's presence in their group, witnessing the individual bond between Callahan and Esme has been equally rewarding. The banter between them is lively and engaging, and shows their closeness. Despite his past and the initial complexities, I sensed a connection between them, which, though initially painful to witness, ultimately felt right. I think this showed Esme's selflessness too— the way she was so gentle and understanding throughout added even more depth to her character.
Despite the differing perspectives of the characters throughout the novel, each pov is equally compelling, leaving me eager to discover what's going to happen on each side. I deliberately slowed my pace towards the end, so as to not end the journey too quickly. I've become deeply attached to the characters, their lives, and their stories, and it's a bittersweet thought of leaving them behind for now.
The scene where Cicero is on the brink of death, and Gwilym is screaming, was utterly heart-wrenching. The depth of love and despair portrayed was palpable, leaving me hopeful for Cicero's recovery. The plot twist towards the end was both unexpected and intriguing, and it added another layer to the already complex plot. I'm eager to see where the author is thinking of taking this story.
"This isn't the end of our story." God, I sincerely hope not. I am eagerly anticipating the next installment in this series, as the plot remains as exciting as ever. There wasn't a single moment where I wasn't fully hooked. I'm waiting for book three, and I know that the journey ahead will only continue to surpass my expectations.

⭐⭐⭐ (3.8/5) - Thrones of Flame
This book was the second one in the Wolves of Flame series and I was honoured to read it in advance of its publication (big thank you to @annahealeywrites !!)
Esmeray is going to be executed, or is she? Because she did things without being ordered to in Wolves of Flame (first book) she is now facing court. And the queen wants her dead. Reagan sends her away to uncover more secrets about his past- to visit his family and hopes he can save her like that.
But not only Esmeray is in danger – the humans have had enough. How can Reagan manage saving the country while missing Esmeray and not knowing where she was and if she is even safe?
The past of Reagan and many secrets are to be uncovered. The relationship between the Fae and humans is on the line.
As I started to read Wolves of flame I was amazed with the idea of the book and the concept of, well, everything! The world building is everything. The characters just feel so - real?
But I think the best thing in this book specifically were the character dynamics. The complex story lives because of the way each character individually reacts to it.
Also the fun I had while reading with all the comedic side comments 😂!! - unbelievable
I like that one can read from more perspectives!
"You are a part of me. This is for me. There is nothing I want to do more in my life. Trust me when I say that.”
I do give this book "only" 3.8 stars because there are some flaws I do think about and sometimes I was a tiny bit confused (when [that] made [E] supposedly forget everything but didn't??)
Overall the book picked up the storyline of the first book and continued on with more background info. I hope we'll see more Wolves of Flame/ Thrones of Flame books soon 👀 (I need to know more).
-Beware that the book is spicy -

To start off, thank you to the author for an ARC of this book.
I enjoyed reading this one. The characters were compelling and sold the book for me. The way I see it, the first book was focused on relationships, namely the two main characters. While it was an enjoyable read, I think this book took it to the next level and really built on the characters. There were relationships progressing as well, but truly each character shined brightly in their own right. My favorite was Callahan, who was an absolute gem.
I will say there were times when the plot was difficult to follow because I didn't understand the main character's way of thinking and her naiveté. Some parts felt... too convenient. Regardless, I'm excited to see where the series ends up and how much of the characters' established fates are fulfilled.
