Horn brings an international perspective to his survey of comics situated in the American West that includes several European comic books, with comments about those that contributed to Western mythology. Those mentioned are probably fewer than Horn realizes. I'm not sure this book is important, but it is interesting.

I was expecting more. There's very little depth put into this work as a whole. I thought it was an interesting topic and he does attempt to cover a lot of ground, but the author never really examines western comics very thoroughly. There's a lot that left me feeling I could have learned more.
